  1. I know one of the missions was to travel to all the states, and another just wanted to travel wherever the wind takes it... I did leave them in the cache, just in case someone else wanted to take them before I had a chance. So as long as I am helping them on their way, I should be good...I've already checked the area we are going and there are quite a lot of caches in a 10 mile area, and not all of them are micros. Thanks
  2. I'm sorry if this has already been discussed, but I didn't see anything right off... I'm going on vacation in a few months out of state, would it be ok to return to the TB's that I have found in caches and collect them so I can take them with me and drop them off? I left them in the cache for now, in case someone has the chance to move them quicker. Thanks in advance for any replies.
  3. I just started and I have an Explorist GC. I'm the kind of person that just starts hitting buttons to see what happens, then read the instructions later. The instruction booklet was not that stellar, but if you go to the web site, they have a download manual that will walk you through other funtions. Also, I had to play around a bit with pocket queries before I figured it out. And then I had to figure out to download it to my GC, you do need another independent program on your pc, I use GSAK so far.

    Really?

I know that I am real new, but I have been seeing logs where people are making comments such as "1 of 60 plus finds today..." or some such things. I went out Saturday morning from 0700-1100 and was able to stop at 9 caches, only found 3 but that is different sad story... Do people just log caches that they see on their GPS as they drive by them? I thought you had to actually find the container and sign the log. Even if I went out for 8 hours, best case for me would appear to be around 20-30 caches, and that would not include those lovely walks through a patch of woods that I never knew existed, and I find that part the most enjoyable. Matt
  5. Hello there, I'm also new and have the GC. After 2 days, I went to premium member. The pocket quireies are great once you learn to create and download them. Also, when you are out, you can read the logs, descriptions, and hints. One other item, look in your box again, I didn't notice it until I was already a premium member, but they offered a 1 month free trial of the membership---you must be like me, pull out the new toy, toss the instructions to the side, and start hitting buttons. Matt
  6. Thanks for the replies so far. I know the 2 challenges I have already joined will be a long time coming, I'm in no rush to complete challenges or hit any magic number. The cache a day type of challenge will probably be out for me as well, so far, I am doing this with my daughter and we don't/won't have time to go out every night. So, I am keeping it real and keeping it fun so far. I have lived in this area pretty much my whole life, and I am being shown parks and other areas I never knew existed...and I only have 15 finds so far. The one thing my daughter really enjoys is the tradables. I told her that we need to create a display or some type of log of where we picked up something and what we left behind. So far we have accumulated a shell, marble, plastic geotoken, and an angel medalion. We have been leaving behind ancient Roman coins(culls-at least one side has details) Thanks again and please keep the advice coming, Matt
  7. A shout out to all the veteran Geocahers... Knowing what you know now...what is some advice for us new people that quickly became addicted? I have signed up for the Illinois All County challenge and the Illinois DeLorne challenge. But are there other types of additional fun tasks that you wish you had known about when you started, or something that you now that you didn't do at the start? Thanks for reading Matt
  8. I just started a couple of weeks ago and I have not signed a single log with my geocache name.... Hope they don't delete them, at least it has the date and my first name... Thanks for the warning, I'll start signing logs "team Ski" and place that as my signature.
