  1. Is there any update on this? As mentioned in other threads, having a web API could help reach new geocachers. Websites such as Myspace and Facebook are rapidly growing and it's becoming very common for people to express their hobbies and interests by displaying data from various websites they belong to. I'm sure you get this question a lot, but might this be available in the near future, even if only to premium members?
  2. I agree 100%. I don't really try and hide the fact that I'm holding my GPS unit and obviously looking for something when I'm geocaching. However, when I get near the cache I try and be a little more cautious, for the same reasons that people have mentioned in this thread. I do think you have to pick and choose who you talk to though.
  3. Hey I don't blame you, it's cheap and if it works why go spend money on something else!
  4. Nice job. I was going to do something like that with my old Legend before I realized they had bike mounts. Do you get any weird looks?
  5. I like to export the pictures in KML format to show on Google Maps. It's a neat way of showing people an area since they can check out the map at the same time. Kind of a virtual tour. As far as taking a long time out of the trip to document the coordinates, as I understand it some of these pieces of software just require you to sync up your camera and GPS clock. I'm not sure you really have to do anything until you get back to your computer. Thanks for the info about the Nikon, I know a few photo hobbyists that would be very interested in that.
  6. Cool, I've never seen that program before. I've been tagging them manually for a while now. Thanks for the tips about time too, I'll have to give it a shot.
  7. I've only searched for ones in wooded areas, but it's interesting to know that people hide them in places like that (fake electrical outlet). I tend to not try and stick my hand in places that I can't see into, such as trees. Sure the cache may be in there, but so might other stuff and that's not cool since I sometimes go looking alone. I'm also not a big fan of moving old and rusty metal objects. I don't bring a backpack full of supplies or anything so I never have gloves or anything. I'm kind of interested in some of these urban caches though, I'll have to look for a few.
  8. I think that's a pretty good idea. I'd probably use it or even help develop it. On a related note, I think it would be great if there was an API for accessing data from caches for displaying information on personal websites. I'm sure many people would love to display information about their travel bugs on their websites. Creating and documenting an API could be a lot of work but the alternative could be to create RSS feeds for caches and let people read in that data themselves. Things like a Facebook application, like Gublerian mentioned, could help get more people interested in Geocaching. Edit: I just realized my comments are similar to this post. Sorry for cluttering up this topic.
