  1. I go alone most of the time, sometimes take a dog if I'm leaving from home. I often go on my lunch hour from work.
  2. My home coordinates are in the right format, and I got them by setting a waypoint in my front yard and then copying them off the GPS when I registered. I then verified them with a good mapping program. For some reason the web site's software seems to think I'm somewhere in Mahoning County. Nothing against Mahoning County, but Akron isn't in it!
  3. I too use a Garmin eTrex Legend--bought the bundle with video, car mount, lighter plug and software at Dick's Sporting goods. It has worked flawlessly. My only complaint is that the compass only works when you're moving--Garmin makes a similar (slightly more expensive) one with an electronic compass built in; if the cost difference is not too much I'd suggest getting that one, or carry a regular compass. if you're stomping through the woods. Read the manual in depth and play with whatever unit you get--there are some very nice features on these units, at a reasonable cost.
  4. while we're on the subject, my home coordinates are correct, and I just checked them, but caches a mile away or less are shown as 50+ miles. What's up with that? Any ideas?
  5. Street Atlas USA will download its maps and routes to the Garmin eTrex Legend--I know that because I recently did it, and it worked like a charm. Street Atlas is a lot less expensive than Garmin's software, and has very nice features.
