  1. Hello, I had been using the software app that came with my eXplorist 500 software. When I purchased new computer hardware with Win7, the eXplorist Geocaching download app no longer worked. Any recommendations on the best Win7 app for my eXplorist 500 would be very much appreciated. Wildcards
  2. I recently purchased an HP laptop running Windows 7. I was able to install the Magellan software but when I added a few geocaches to Easy Cache Manager, clicked "send to GPS" the software could not find the Explorist 500 connected to the USB port. I then downloaded EasyGPS. I could see the GPSR in the software, open the POI file and Geocache file but when I tried to send the Geocaches to the GPSR with the software I get a "save file" gui. Not sure what I am doing wrong but any assistence or recommendations would be very much appreciated. Back to entering one cache at a time, the old fashioned way. No Bueno.
  3. 280! Or waite, is that dog years? Does that count? That has always confused me.
  4. Give me a break! Some of you people are wound too tight or you need to quit smoking the poison ivey. You cache police sound like a bunch of PTA members trying to control every aspect of a game that already has set guide lines. I think water proof matches as a trade item for an activity that is based on being out doors in the wild is a great trade item. I have been catching flack on a recent cache because it had a bottle of bubbles in it. The bottle of bubbles were sealed in a plastic bag. The cache police quickly removed the bubbles citing that bubbles should not be left in a cache since they may leak and spoil the cache. These cache police also indicated "Bubbles" were an illegal cache item. Give me a break! It is the responsibility of the cache owner to maintain their cache. You don't want children finding knives, matches and BUBBLES?!?!?! A pocket knife and matches would come in handy while camping. Bubbles are just fun. If you don't like a trade item but it does not violate the stated guid lines don't take it. Just be offended and go away.
  5. I took a little easier route by purchasing the Magellian carrying case. It has a small strap on the back that I clipped a carrabiner through, then I just hang the case/GPSR to my belt loop. Works for me.
  6. www.geocoins.com are wonderful but can be on the expensive side. I have a little button pin from one cache that lists the cache name and coordinates. I think it is the best prize I have found because it is a reminder of a neat area.
  7. Gotta luv spring and summer caching with all the bugs and foliage. Any suggestions, besides finger nail polish, to relieve chigger ich? I actually applied bug spray this last weekend and still got ichey ankles! Looking forward to your recommendations...while I am scratching.wildcards@attbi.com
  8. Are there rankings of registered geocachers by state determined by the number of finds? If so, where do can I find the ranking list?
  9. Hey, Has anyone downloaded this new rev on a Meridian Gold? Any advantages besides daylight savings and projecting a path? Any known issues? Thanks in advance!
  10. Jeremy, Determine what the site is worth and charge membership accordingly. If the site fails, then it was not worth the price. If the site succeeds, than it was a great idea. Cache vadalism will always be a risk, from people, animals or the weather. When this happens note the cache is gone and not look for it anymore...jeez that was easy. Once again, the marketing opportunities and dollar potential is there.
  11. Not only pay to play but what a marketing opportunity. The GPS manufacturers would jump at the chance to BUY advertising or provide free GPS units/coupons/shirts for a cache. Additionally, the GPS sellers wanting to place advertisement on the geocaching.com site is huge. What about Xtreme-caching? Extremely difficult terrain/difficulty with cash caches? I realize this idea sickens the "caching purest" of the sport but if there were events like this the number of paying members goes up improving the site and perks of membership. I am in sales and this sport and it's potential excite me. We are on the first floor of something huge. Final thought, if there is a membership fee, members should be able to make game improvement recommendations and the membership can vote to approve the recommendations.
