  1. Well he needs to be more specific then, if that's what he wants. There are more people discussing this thread than just the OP. I also don't recall calling anyone a name or demeaning them. I did however comment on a perceived action. He claimed his point was ignored and I claimed that my response to his point was ignored. If anything I was attacking an action, not a person. Perhaps you could allow the offended party to tell me off rather than doing that in proxy format for them. You and I have enough history without going on crusades to fight other people's battles for them. Yea waiting on the OP, cause really all this comes down to is just leaving existing fine working caches enabled first and foremost. and to give future cache listings a little leeway on the review. I had listings not get passed there initial review and i was given reasons why, which i agreed with all those reasons and acted accordingly to resolve. But this one, as someone mentioned earlier felt a bit like a witch hunt, after noticing some caches disabled, it was a disappointing feeling. especially when it targets Ontario only for example, why just Ontario?.
  2. Then you thought wrong. Which is why I asked again for a legitimate argument. From anyone. I had a legitimate argument, but apparently it's getting tossed aside or dismissed without any reasons why. Almost seems like a child is in charge..
  3. Simply answered? Yes. I'm on the leadership team for a Local Geocaching group and, despite being the most easy going person you'll ever meet, I'll argue for a legitimate cause/reason until they kick me out I'm a fairly even-keeled dude, too, but I have to admit that arguing for something that is unnecessary seems... well, unnecessary. Makes for good TV, though! We're perhaps 60 posts in to a thread barking about a few caches that got disabled due to commercial content as a result of some whistle blowing, and while that's unfortunate, not one person has presented a legitimate argument as to why a cacher might require any business name of any sort in the description/title of their physical cache placement. (I give leeway for events, but even those are possibly not necessary) I'm not looking to incite a riot, and I'm certainly not advocating the gathering of lists to submit to VRs, but my personal stance is that there's absolutely no need for any commercial names (Store chains, park names, city names, plastic container brand names, etc.) in any listing, in any form. I thought i gave a good handful of reasons to let some names go, reasons that affect both the geocacher and the cache hider.
  4. Yea I wonder does this now affect those parks that have fee's, also i still haven't got the question answered about creating a themed geocache. Because if there not going to like the theme (a product which is also a company name) will it get rejected? If so then it's not worth my time starting it or creating any more geocaches. I found a few Themed geocaches out there to be really cool.
  5. I'm not kidding, these are valid arguable points. They're dumb, but that's the point. Where do we stop? Without clarification of a rule-set, a blanket rule as it is now, is ineffective. I agree with Dragoon. And what about a themed geocache i ran into tons of those now. For example i plan to have a geocache theme Toy Story, and only toy story items can be traded within this cache? does that mean my great idea is now no longer allowed, all I'm saying is enforcing this rule kills the variety in the sport, and dulls down the caching experience.
  6. I totally agree with that, and to inform CacheDrone that if they want to continue to not allow any names of business whatsoever then that's fine, but to have mass disabling is uncalled for and that ruins the fun. How does that ruin the fun well read my example below.. For example I headed out over the weekend and i always leave out disabled cache listings from my GPS because i don't wanna be bothered looking for something that's long lost you know. But my dad leaves in the disabled listings by accident cause he just doesn't know how to work the query's all that much. So we came to one and i said i don't have that on my list but he does and i checked the comments on the listing and found it had a business name in it problem and that irritated me so much i went looking for it anyway and found it... I don't want to miss out on a cache because of some stupid politics, just send the owners a warning note next time.
  7. That IS from Groundspeak, they wrote these documents for geocachers to adhere to. So Groundspeak would be the people that decided it, regardless of what you may have been told at some event in a setting where a question and answer period existed regardless of the position of the person that replied. (yes yes, I know.. bold statement on my part considering who said it) When it comes to FTF prizes... there are two things of note: 1... "The FTF prize is a $x coupon" is far better than "The FTF prize is a $x coupon for {business name}". There is no need to include the business name. Period. 2... After FTF, the prize is... GONE... so why does this info have to remain on the cache page? Rhetorical, we all know it doesn't. So instead of debating the semantics of this, isn't it much easier to just remove the unnecessary business name from the listing and focus on the geocaching aspect? I think we all would agree that nothing is lost in the listing by removing a specific business name and making it generic instead. CD There's something about this i just don't agree with, the fact that it uses the word "seem commercial" and then list characteristics one of which alone shouldn't lead to something "seeming commercial" (something to consider re-looking at what you consider to be something seeming to be commercial). A mention of a name of a place like behind the X building and not the Y building or park by the Z company all of which can make a difference or help in the search. It seems a bit too over policing, having the name to help find something should be OK, but any mention of come to our Y business or Friday has specials with X, or even a coupon with Z etc. those i would agree would be deemed something that "seems commercial". It shouldn't factor it commercial just because of a mentioning of the name but rather the context in which it uses that name. You don't know for certain if something is lost in the removing of a specific business name, all i ask is that you consider the context that the name is to be used and not just dismiss it for having a name already used. Heck it even mentions that "on very rare occasions, Groundspeak makes an exception for a commercial cache." This could mean they could just be nice and let the odd name slide if in the context it's innocent. Hows that sound?.
  8. I'm on the look out for Geocacheing containers that are bigger than the usually large ammo boxes. I seen several that have like official geocaching logos stuck on them the size of suit cases and such but can't find any like them in the stores. I remind you all I'm from Ontario Canada, since that might make a difference. I was originally looking for something the size of an average size suitcase thats weather resistant and possibly even have a spot to lock it with a Key lock or combination lock..
  9. Found that one with the wife and kids cycling the islands a few summers ago. Does a mountain count? I found one of those last summer. I found that one in Toronto over the weekend. If it's not the biggest geocache in the world then i would at least say it's the most packed geocache. It would take you all day to go through half the items in this geocache. (Theres even more stuff added than what you can see in the picture) I was too overwhelmed with what to take so i decided to leave a few regular geo swag inside some of the drawers. The DVD player tempted me but i assume the weather got to it before me. I have an idea for a semi-large geocache but i need help finding a good spot to put it, it would be a themed one too (the theme is secret till i get it posted out there)..
  10. Maybe it's not a rule but to me i consider it the Geocaching tradition to sign the log book, if your too lazy to sign it then you should also be too lazy to post online.
  11. So, how do you feel about garbage? I know what you mean though. When I was approaching 1000 finds I tried to grab 5-6 local caches to set up for a Golden Ammo Can tribute cache a local that was placed by a local cacher for my 1000th find. I think #998 was a cache that was located near a chinese restaurant no more than 10 feet from a couple of garbage bins. As I was signing the log and taking in the aroma I thought, "that's it, after I hit 1000 I'm not going find another cache just to add to my numbers". That was in April 2010 and I've averaged about 4.5 finds per month since then. Garbage sucks but that just means that if you place one near garbage I'm just gonna pass on it early. CITO is great and all but it is still nice if the cache is located in a respectable place.
  12. I find that every cache is unique and fun no matter how easy or difficult its hidden. It even makes me think when there too easy how they can survive from not being muggled, those are just cute and good for wheel chair and kids. If you don't like the easy ones then use the difficulty filters that is provided with the membership, i only been a member for 2 days now lol. But the only caches i don't like and i mean i will give up on them really really early like 5 min searching max and if i don't see them right away are the ones that are placed too close to a pile of garbage. Like i went down some ally between 2 houses in a nice neighborhood and the cache was supposed to be hidden in a corner of some fence, but this very spot was a heavy dumping ground for random pieces of garbage i gave up and said forget that. I draw the line at garbage. I don't care how easy the item is but if it's too close to some garbage where kids will likely search through then i would want that cache disabled. I would rather climb a mountain or dive under water to get them but i am not gonna shift through garbage to find a cache and i will even request a cache be to be disabled or moved if there in garbage or 5 meters from a steaming pile of garbage. There more commonly found in the cities i find and rarely in the parks and forest areas. so i have only come across about 2 or 3 so far and i have only found about 19 too. And for the love of god do not camo the item to look like garbage and place it along with garbage because that's just plain horrible.
  13. Yea after playing around with it i been able to get used to it but my parents are just computer illiterate lol But my key idea about adding friends is whats important to me more than the website design/layout. does anyone agree on that?
  14. I just got into this and I'm hooked, after telling a few friends and family members about it they too decided to join. But most of them have a difficult time navigating the site (it's a little tricky to find my way around sometimes and im a software engineer) so one of the main problems i see everyone of my friends and family having is adding friends.. That feature seems to be dissabled by default for them when they first join, so when i gotta add a family member or friend to the friends list it's a long process to explain to them why it's not working and then i gotta walk them through it and stuff. Also i find that the Hide and seak is straight forward and nice interface no problems there the trackables is also nice and straight forward but the your profile section of the website could use a little more work, i think the public profile that other people see should be more merged with the your profile end of things ie "the look". anyways thats my 2 cents.. please feel free to leave any comments tell me if you agree or not etc..
  15. I have seen them in locations that require rope climbing gear or snorkeling equipment so the only way for me to quit is if i go out with a bang a long fall bang or a slow drowning bang lol
