  1. I agree. Discovering is lame.
  2. I also prefer no numbers. One cacher's opinion.
  3. 1. Internal 2. No 3. 33 4. Male Thanks and good luck with the project!
  4. I agree that the ability to deactivate a geocoin would be very helpful. Does anyone know if this is not allowed due to a technical reason or otherwise? I've been thinking about bringing this up in the geocaching.com forum as a feature request (or more accurately reviving since I'm sure it has been asked about before).
  5. My experience has been about half of traveling coin pages have photos. I definitely like the photos so I have them on all my coin pages and wish more cachers did the same.
  6. Cherry Garcia... wait, did I miss something?
  7. I have had a positive experience both buying and minting with Oakcoins.
  8. Unactivated coins are usually high-end swag that can be traded for and either kept or traded into another cache. The one time I found one I didn't realize it had not been activated until after I had retrieved it and dropped it in my next cache. I sent a few emails to the cacher who dropped the coin but didn't hear back so I just noted in my cache log that an unactivated coin was in it.
  9. I just did the math and it came out to ~1.25 per week (60 collectors in just under a year). But it is very lumpy (some months very few, some, well, a tad more than that). I suspect most coin collectors start out buying less descriminately before becoming more selective after collecting for a while. I have found recently that my new coin purchases have diminished of late. However, I have also recently started buying coins on eBay - mostly real gems that came out before I was in the game.
  10. Welcome! There are plenty of information sources but I would recommend starting here for the basics. Enjoy!
  11. Excellent idea. As Eric noted, the spreadsheet is currently publicly available, which I presume will change.
  12. The animated 07 Compass Rose icon rocks!
  13. I have been struggling with the same. I have a few coins I'd like to send but since I haven't traded much I am light on addresses. And (understandably) not everyone is comfortable giving out an address in a semi-public setting. I'm thinking the surprise will have to be the email asking for the address, not the actual coin. EDIT: I also would like to give anonymously but given that my shiny new personals have my name in big letters, well, that's going to be a pretty big clue as to where they came from...
  14. This above is a prime example of what "should" be done on these rare occasions we need to part with a coin due to finances, hardship, and or lack of desire to hold a coin any longer. I while back I bought (3) 4BOWS coins after some research I found that they themselfs had very few remaining, rather then ebaying the extras I bought (yes I ebay) I contacted them and let them buy them back at my cost out of respect rather then selling their personal coin, even though I had bought them from a coin house that evidently had some over stock that was being sold.. I cherish gift coins the very most, and if one day I find myself in a situation needing to part with these coins I would contact the person that "gifted" the coin to me prior to doing anything with it as I know where most every coin I have attained came from. If not remembered I would try to contact the coin maker (personal coin) to find out what they wanted me to do with the coin once again plain old fastion respect. Pertaining to coins that were sold comercial , they are fair game to be sold, All of the above content is "my" personal opinion, Glenn Agreed. If everyone followed this approach then coin collectors in distress would have an avenue to raise funds without compromising the integrity of the no-sell request. An extra step maybe but one that goes a long way.
  15. I'm getting ready for the arrival of my new personal coin and am working on the icon. I thought I could take a larger image and just resize it down to 16x16, 32x32. The problem I'm having is that when I do that everything gets very blurry. Clearly, I am missing something obvious. Just as clear is that I am not artistically inclined at all so please forgive my ignorance. Thanks in advance for any thoughts.
  16. You enjoyed a Hurricane in New Orleans during your bachelorette party? I had one (er, a few) during my bachelor party a couple years back.
  17. Great contest idea and I *love* the coin. I have a few repeats to nominate. 1) Glennk721 - Glenn has spread sunshine throughout his time in the forums including sending out 50+ sunshine coins around the country and the world. He has also generously sent his GeoTags around to several cachers (myself included). Last but not least, Gleen has a pretty sunny attitude here in the forums as well. 2) CinemaBoxers - Paula has taken her share of flak in here but I, personally, have found her to be exceptionally thoughtful and levelheaded. That and she's the only one I agree with on just about every point. Kudos for coin designs and forum demeanor. 3) Tsun - this one comes as no surprise. Terrific attitude, terrific coins, and a load of generosity. What if you win your own coin!? Thanks to all who make this a fun place to frequent.
  18. I activate all coins I plan to keep and (obviously) send out into caches. I haven't done any trading yet but have started to build a roster of unactivated coins for that purpose.
  19. Just saw this thread. Hope I got my LE (and RE) reservations in under the wire!
  20. Moving my comment from FSM's other thread to the more appropriate venue...
  21. I actually think tsun's thread is different enough from this one to merit staying open (what to disclose when selling vs. whether reminting is a moral tragedy may be related but are different issues) but I guess that's neither here nor there at this point. My thoughts on that question (reminting) are as follows... First, I think everyone agrees that the more clarity upfront the better. Second, I'm in what appears to be the minority that thinks reminting is fine. I understand the reasons why people take the other side of this and don't dispute them. The market demands more? Crank 'em out and match the supply to the demand. Yes, yes, the horrific devaluation of the first batch - that doesn't bother me one whit. Again, I know others don't see it this way but I do.
  22. How about this: Design the coin that the dragon is visble on one side and part of the pirate is visible on the same side being a section of the dragon or a part of the place where the dragon currently is and vice versa. Does that make sense to anyone else but me? Kind of a 3D MC Escher design with dragons and Pirates. I like this idea. I envision separate images that "wrap around" so that there is a bit of each on both sides.
  23. Thank you. My point exactly. How can that be VHTF? Please, GeoLobo, don't say it was an accident; I have sold many things on eBay and you have many chances to look over and edit your listing before putting it up. The Lizard Decypher coin for sale by the OP is a different version than the one currently for sale at The Caching Place, which seems to me to support the VHTF claim. Or maybe it's just HTF. NEF (Not Easily Found)? Good luck with the sales, GeoLobo.
