  1. I would have to say that it is continuing to grow here as well. There has been a fairly steady addition of caches and I find it to be an excellent indication of how popular geocaching has become.
  2. How about using something like GSAK to put in cache coordinates? Is that something which is easy to do with this particular unit?
  3. Hmm, looks like the original post glitched. Here it is: Hi everyone, been a while since I've posted, but was just given a Sportrak Pro and was wondering your thoughts/experiences with it. I've used an old Garmin XL12 and etrex Legend before, but the Sportrak is new to me. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! Jeremy
  4. I was thinking of working on some handmade coins to put into caches. I was wondering how popular they are in your area. Is it something you'd like to find in a cache or is it one of those items that would be skipped over? Thoughts? Thanks. Jeremy
  5. Thanks for the responses so far everyone! Unfortunately, this isn't for a film cannister. The container I want to put inside the log is 4.75 inches in diameter and 7.5 inches tall. Don't worry New England noob, I don't plan on chopping down anyone's tree or anything like that. I've got some pieces of my own to use. Any other ideas on things that you've done would be appreciated! I'd love to hear any and all thoughts. Thanks!
  6. Has anyone taken a small, solid log and hollowed it out to place a cylindrical container inside it? If so, how did you hollow the log? I'm trying to figure out the easiest way to create the opening, but would certainly appreciate hearing from anyone who has had experience with actually doing it. Thanks in advance! Jeremy
  7. 40 stages? What kind of beast cache is that?
  8. What kind of snake is that? I've never seen one like that before.
  9. The way that this is worded makes me have images of you chasing this thing around with a screwdriver and beating it to death.
  10. I'm from central Louisiana and have been glued to the tv and internet watching updates. It is horrible to think that New Orleans and the surrounding areas are going to be completely wiped out. There is so much history there and so many people will be affected. I'm just hoping that lives lost are at a minimum. On a side note related to caching that is not all that important relative to everything else......there will undoubtedly be many quality caches wiped away as well. Let's hope that all cachers stay safe and are able to return to replace all that is lost and then some! You're all in my thoughts and prayers. Jeremy
  11. I just bought a cheap little sling back pack to carry a couple of things when going out cache hunting. I was wondering if anyone else has a backpack that they'd use and recommend. Just another one of those simple questions that might help other newbs in the process. Thanks! Jeremy
  12. I'm working on my first cache listing. Does anyone know you're able to edit the hint given after it's been listed? Thanks. Jeremy
  13. Great question. What I'm doing for that is this. On the coordinates card, I instruct the finder that the container and the items inside are theirs to keep. For the container, I'm using a nicely camo taped canister that could easily be reused in this area. Of course as part of maintenance, I will check the area to make sure that the container was not just left behind.
  14. Thanks for pointing that out for me. I'll ask now.
  15. How do I go about finding out who my approver would be? I'm in the central Louisiana area. If there's a specific person, I'd like to run it by him/her beforehand. Thanks.
  16. Exactly, that's why I wanted to do it like that. It would give the finder the option of going a little farther to get a little bit better prize. My plan is that in my bonus caches I'll have a little higher quality item(s). Each bonus cache will be in a different area and each will have different things in it. If the finder gets to my regular cache, finds the card in it, and decides not to go for it, then it will be there for the next person. If they get it, then I'll have the fun of replacing it and putting a different somewhere else.
  17. Ok, that does sound like a traditional then. Yes, the coordinates on the site are going to be the ones leading to the cache with the log in it. The special caches are not going to be required for logging the find, but will be purely for the extra hunt and reward to the cacher. Thanks!
  18. I'm planning a cache that will initially include a card that has coordinates to a special FTF cache. On occasion, I will place another card with coordinates to a different special cache in a different location. I'm not whether this would be classified as traditional or multi. How would you submit this one? Thanks in advance. Jeremy
  19. While out searching for three caches today, I was wondering....."What makes a really great cache?" I know everybody is going to have a different answer, but are there some core characteristics to build around? I know that I really enjoy a good multicache as well as a cache that is hidden just enough to make me say, "Man, I should have saw that the first time I looked there." So, what makes it good for you?
  20. I'm working on my first cache and will be placing a TB in it. My question is....do you attach something to the TB and tag specifying its mission? Thanks in advance for any help you can give. Jeremy
  21. For those of you have have ordered travel bugs from USAGeocoins.com, how long did it take you to receive them? I ordered mine at the end of last week, so I guess they'll be in some time this week? Anybody with experience on this matter? Thanks. Jeremy
  22. I'm starting to plan out my first cache and want some advice from those of you who have been FTF. What kind of "special" items do you think make good ones for the FTF? Any ideas are most certainly welcomed. I appreciate any advice you can give. Thanks! Jeremy
  23. Quick question..... I've seen some people have their stats box showing in their signature. How do I link to that with the box showing how many I've found and hidden in the signature area? Thanks!
  24. I do fully intend to do some trading, so I'm not gonna scared off from that. Here's a question in line with SWAG.... How much do you spend per item? I'm guessing it's up to the individual, but what kind of items are people really interested in finding there?
