  1. Has anyone had the chance to test these GSPr units in adverse weather conditions? Like severe thunderstorms, snow storms, and even hurricanes. I was wondering if under such conditions they will work or lose all satellite contact.
  2. Thanks. Will look at the links you both have provided. I know Wal-Mart has NG Back Roads for $48.00 but although nice its not 1:24,000 scale and NG Topo although a great product is just more than I want to spend for each state. I think they run about $79.00 each.
  3. I have used USAPhotoMaps and ExpertGPS but don't think the maps from either are 1:24,000 scale unless I am wrong. I just would like to be able to view regions of maps in 1:24,000 scale and print them out to take with to use in conjunction with my GPSr.
  4. Can one download 1:24,000 of USGS maps off the web, or does one need to buy a certain software containing the maps? Thanks for the help
  5. That was the answer embra. Thanks again for the help.
  6. That may be the answer because I save each region (file) to the SD card seperately. I will give that a try and see if it works. Thanks
  7. I have tried all the suggestions I have found on the forum. I am able to put many seperate regions on the SD card using a USB card reader/writer. When in the unit all the regions work but as I said I must switch them manually when going into a new region instead of the unit switching automatically to that region. I don't mind switching manually but sure wish it would do so itself. As to why a Meridian Yellow would do so and my Gold unit will not is curious, maybe I need to set something in setup or other part of the menu? I am currently using firmware version 4.06 which I have found to be the stablest, I have tried 5.40 but there seems to be some bugs in it and have gone back to 4.06.
  8. I am using Mapsend Topo v. 4.20D and a 128 meg SD card.
  9. I have placed 2 map regions on my SD card. They both work in the unit, but I have to manually switch between the 2 when I enter the other region on the unit. Is it possible for the unit to switch to the regions by itself with no intervention on my part or is manual change of maps the only way?
  10. My suggestion to you is to go to a dealer of GPS units nearby if one is available and try out both b/w and color. I think it was best said by another post as it comes down to a personal choice as to what works best for you. I have a Meridian Gold and did look at the Meridian Color before buying but I myself could not jusitfy the difference in cost just for color, but then that is my opinion. Perhaps in the not so distant future color units will become more in line in cost with what b/w units are now. Either way both do an excellent job in Geocaching.
  11. I don't think that is the one I need. I need the one to use with my Magellan Meridian Gold GPS. That is a great price if it would work, but I doubt it. Thanks
  12. Is there an easier method to back up ones Meridian Gold basemap other than described on http://www.mtgc.org/robertlipe/MeridianFAQ/ ? This method does not seem to work with my unit? Any help would be appreciated. Thank You
  13. Reading it from the SD card is the only way I've found. I've written a program to convert it along with a step-by-step tutorial. On my web site, under the section Tools and Articles there is one named "Display Magellan Track on a MSST Map." Also GPSbabel can convert a track as well, and is an indespensible tool in any geocachers kit. Thanks Xangxa, a great program!
  14. Wanting to buy Mapsend Topo 3D. Anyone have one to sell? Thanks
  15. Thanks for the replies. I was hoping there was an easier way to do this directly from the unit communicating with Streets and Trips.
  16. I have a Meridian Gold and Streets and Trips 2005. I have ran into a snag using it and hope someone can steer me in the right direction here on the forum. When My Meridian Gold is hooked up to the computer viia serial cable and it is actively receiving statlite signals, my position shows up as a little car in S&T 2005. Problem is if it is not receiving a Statalite signal from being indoors it does not show the last position of the GPS unit even though it iis right there on the Meridian Gold screen. Or say you go out for the day and gather waypoints and when you come home want to look those waypoints up on S&T 2005, well how do you get the unit to send them to S&T 2005? It seems that it will only communicate with S&T 2005 if it is receiving a satalite signal, or is there a way otherwise to send that info to S&T 2005? Perhaps I am just missing something, hope you can enlighten me. Thank you all
