  1. :P Hmmm.. Well. lot's to say but I'll keep it short and hopefully to the point, with no specific person/vendor/company/affiliate in mind. Selling on ebay was once taboo.. no more.. that was old school train of thought.. not that theres anything wrong with that.. if that's your thing.. more power to ya. Just because there are people that don't think that way doesn't make them wrong. ;)

I personally believe that the sale on ebay opens up a purchasing venue for a lot of people that can't sit by the puter waiting on sales to start, or for websites to update their cart, or whatever.. it gives a chance for the acquisition of coins you couldn't have easily otherwise gotten. Buyers happy.. Sellers happy.. Woot... all is well. :P

With that in mind....Sellers.. be it individuals or companies, shouldn't have to worry about when they sell what version or when they put them up for sale... it's a free market, NO ONE is forced to purchase!!! Am I wrong? Choose your purchases wisely grasshopper. :P IMO

  2. How do you pay for a coin with paypal. If you want to preorder a coin from a individual.

 Do you have a paypal account? If so you can send funds directly to the sellers acct. or have them invoice you and pay that way. Either way... they get the funds and you get the coinage, and all is well in the universe.

  3. B) Heck yeah... If I was in the area, I'd definitely give it a shot. Or even f I were passing through the area. As would a lot of folks I'm sure. B) I realistically don't see me going that far JUST for the coin though. :D Not sure I totally agree with S99er... I have a Gold Ape.. (did one) which is cool, and I'd LOVE to have the luxury of time to go to the bay area and Death march my bootie off. That would give the coin more meaning to me. Maybe no one else, but to me anyways. I think there's another coin.. the End Station Coin that requires you to do a cache or series of caches for it.. My memory isn't what it used to be, but that would be cool to do also. I like the idea in a sense that it's kind of a reward, but if for some reason I wasn't able to complete the quest, and I was in the area.. I'd be pretty vexed if I came home coinless. Also... FWIW... When stating that you just want to cover the minting cost of the coin in the price.. my advice is to tread lightly, and be very close to actual pricing. There's a LOT of folks here in these forums that have produced many many coins and know what it actually costs to produce them, and will call shenanigans on you if you aren't careful.. Just saying. ANYWAYS....

GO for it! You'll only regret it if you don't do it. It's just a coin. Drive on! B)

  4. <_< Add me to the list of folks needing the newest Tiki coin, Five-Five. Oh.. I dropped a few Tikis off in caches at MOGA yesterday, It was a great Hawaiian themed event in land locked Missouri. Huge success.. For a Mega event.

Woot.. I also just heard of who picked up at least one of the ones I dropped.. Congrats..you know who you are.. I don't think I was being followed. Hmmm. :D

  5. ...... Another artist actually worked up the artwork.

For me, I presume an Artist Edition to be a version of a coin given to the designer (or artist) in lieu of a payment for the coin. Am I taking that too literally? Or is it extended to a personal version someone gets for coming up with an idea. Just was curious about a clarification. (cause i gots lots of ideas that I don't actually design! :) )

I don't think that just because you can come up with the idea for a coin makes you an artist, the artist does the work, and should... IMO be the one getting the AE.. Just because you want input on the design, doesn't make you an artist.. if it did.. then why would you need the artist in the first place?

I think the term "artist" is painted with a very broad stroke in the coin realm, there are true artists in this community don't get me wrong. But there are also clip art and photoshop wizards that I personally don't consider to be artists, don't take that wrong, a lot of good coins are clip art, and done by some great folks. A lot of variety and creativity to be had for sure. My point being.. someone could send me a random pic, and I could manipulate it with a photo program to make it look superfine and a virtual work of art... doesn't make me an artist or a photographer.. a good artist would make it look like a photo, and a good photographer would make it look like a piece of art. See what I'm sayin?

I think the AE version was borne out of the goodness of some actual artists to take coins instead of or in addition to payment for their services.

Not sure if I'm helping.. I'll have to read through all ATs threads to clarify...

  6. :D To me it kinda depends on the coin.. but I like a variety of coin sales. :)

I like options A and B from a collectors point of view... in that there's an opportunity to get a limited # of coins in a limited timeframe, with a known amount of coins produced. These tend to be the upper crust of the collectible geocoin spectrum. Very cool.

I also like Option C from a utilitarian standpoint, I'll use the USA coins as an example.. :D there's a huge supply of them at a very reasonable price, you can buy a bunch of em' set em free, drill holes in em, whatever.... and not sweat it too much if they get lost strayed or stolen. They're functional trackables, but aren't the big collectibles like the limited runs. I think more of these would be actually used for traveling than sitting in a collection. (and YES I have a few of these in my collection)

I'd kinda like to see more of the larger no frills coins with the seemingly "never ending" supply around the $5 mark.

    That being said...

    Ultimately design reigns supreme..

If the coin is an awesome design, and I'm drawn to it... how it's sold just really isn't that important. If I gotta have it... well.. I gotta have it. If purchasing requires me to order through a foreign site at an ungodly hour of the morning that I have to decrypt on some language translation site, then perform a song and dance in say Dutch... so be it.. ya gotta do what ya gotta do. :D

  7. Sorry to hear that. I know I don't have any trades or such with you but, you take care of family first. I'm confident most anyone in this community will understand. Dealing with loss is a mentally and physically draining time, take all the time you need to and I'm sure us coiners will be here when you're back. Again, sorry for your loss.

I have got lots for traders. :)

 Yeah... I'm looking for one of these Round Groundspeak ones too... I do have an extra Square one that I will trade for it. I'm not gonna hold my breath.. but it won't hurt to ask.

  9. I have a few smiles I could probably spare.. I've been saving em up. I'd be glad to cut loose of a few if it would help. I may even be coerced into sending a geocoin also in case the smile didn't do it. I hope this coiners treatments go well. Not sure what treatments, but I sure hope it helps. "Treatments" ususally suck, but they don't do em to make ya more miserable, they do em to help. So take your treatments and keep your chin up, some of lifes best journeys are ones that follow the roughest roads. (Some roads are just longer than others!)

    Count me in.
