  1. You can change that in your area. I've seen many logs with more than a date and signature. They're usually either old caches, caches that require effort to find, or well thought out caches. If I find a cache I really like I'll take time to write something in the log. I enjoy reading logs when I do maintenance. I try to give other CO's that same enjoyment.
  2. Make the container a pile of fake cow poo.
  3. I exclude micros in my PQ's. I make use of the ignore list. If I don't want to find a cache, I don't. If you place a cache I like I will take the time to write you a nice log entry. If you just threw something out I'll make the same effort when writing my log. I am fortunate to have a group of local cachers who like to make that 6 mile hike that includes climbing a mountain for a single . We get together once a month for dinner. It's not an event. There's no given. It's just getting together, talking about caches we've found (rating them as good, mediocre, or garbage), planning the next group hunt, and discuss whatever else we like. I play the game my way. I don't care what you think.
  4. Thought I'd post this in case anyone else hits the problem. A friend recommended I post it. A few months ago I found Magellan Mapsend Topo US v4.20 for around $10 at a Circuit City store. I bought it, figuring the maps were more up-to-date than my Mapsend Topo US v2.??. After I installed it I connected my Magellan GPS 315 with the serial cable. (Yeah, I know it's old, but I still really like it. No maps just adds to the adventure.) Next I tried to download a track from the GPSr. Mapsend started Autodetect, but never found my GPS 315. Looks like Mapsend Topo US V4.20 doesn't support that model. I searched the documentation for some help, but found none. I turned to Google, with no avail. What to do? Start looking through the files in the Mapsend Topo distribution. I went to C:\Program Files\Magellan\MapSend Topo US. I found some settings in the MAPSEND.INI file. The first step was to make a backup copy of the file. I left it in the same directory. Then I found the following two lines in MAPSEND.INI. I think the -1 tells Mapsend to Autodetect. Com_Port=-1 Baud_rate=-1 My GPSr serial cable is connected to COM1:. The baud rate set on my GPS315 is 4800. I changed these lines to: Com_Port=1 Baud_rate=4800 I fired up Mapsend and it communicated with my Magellan GPS 315. Hope this is useful to others.
  5. They are 3.7 to 19.9 miles away from my home. The nearest was temporarily disabled because the owner was supposed to go sign the permit form at the parks office. It's been "temporarily disabled" since 5 July 2006. One is a micro that went missing that I haven't looked for since it was replaced. One looks like it requires a boat. The rest are grouped by trip routes, as in I'll take a Saturday afternoon and get X number of caches along this route. 3 are a single bicycle ride on a rail trail. Part of it too is my recent general attitude toward many caches. The caches I want to log are the ones where you look at the cache description page and the 5 most recent logs are not from the same year. I walked an additional 1.8 miles each way this spring while I was fishing to log a cache. Walk 12 miles to find tupperware and try to trick trout with fake bugs. I have some caches in mind I want to log. One is a day-long hike. The other is 2 caches on a day long hike. Might try to convince my brother-in-law to go on the day-long hike for the single cache this fall. There are others that are lesser hike but similar situations.
  6. I'd be up for something at Cooper's Rock after May. I see nothing wrong asking folks to kick in on the grub. BTW, I'm in Nutter Fort.
  7. Sorry, I clicked the wrong link. I meant this for the Midwest forum. Stupid Stupid Stupid
  8. This weekend I placed the Zion Wedding TB in the 16th Street Mini Cache (GCB17B). The cache seems to get moderate traffic. It was the only cache big enough for a TB within walking distance of my motel. It needs to arrive in Zion National Park by April 2006. Would appreciate it if someone could move this to a high traffic cache, where it is more likely to hitch a ride west.
