Windows/Mac etc

If you are looking at spending a couple of hundred quid on a GPS then I'd look at either the new Etrex 30 or the Oregon 450. Also for £250 the Oregon 550 will give you a camera.
The Oregon range has a bigger screen than the Dakota, and IMHO a far better unit.
Handtech have some good prices
Most GPS don't have a 'radar' like on a phone, but an arrow. And talkytoaster maps will work on most Garmin units

Seems to be working OK with Windows and Opera. Have you another machine to try it on?
-
Does anyone read it? 99.997% just tick a 'I agree' box....

Have a hunt of ebay, there are quite a few USB/serial adapters which will convert from a type A USB to the Garmin socket on the etrex. Or if you use your cable then a standard USB-serial adapter will do.
Those based on the Prolific chipset work well with the etrex

Ebay? I searched for 'solenoids' and found lots of manufacturers listings, and all of them had ones that operate 3 to 9 volts.
I haven't even started looking at 'robotics suppliers'. I can see several uses for such things... granted 5 volts would be a better source. However, I don't intend to keep looking much. I did try a nail magnet on two volts and it has fair pull still. So I'm sure it could be done economically if needed.
There are plenty of pneumatic solenoid valves which operate on 3v, but nothing which would work a catch, apart from maybe a gas solenoid ...that's on the UK version of ebay

Great Britain competed in one or more early games in a combined team with Ireland.
How early? Remember it was part of the UK until 1921.....

We went up via the Pyg Route, but for going back (to Pen-Y-Pass) the Miners Track was a lot easier as the initial decent was quite rapid so the rest was mostly gentle slopes.
Although if I had a baby I'd take the train as it is rocky/loose etc most of the way.
As has been mentioned check the weather as we started out (in Feb) with freezing fog, with thermals and all the cold weather walking gear...but at the top we were in T-shirts in glorious sun!!

Could be OK, but if you are unhappy about doing it then just delete it!

Yes, click Map This Location and on the sidebar Save As Pocket Query, although you will still be limited to the 1000 cache limit.
EDIT: This loses the text search...so skip that!
GSAK or similar would enable you to do this though.
-
Also if you use HTML then the 500 characters applies to the code as well
-
Check your browser, on most you can turn off background image printing.
-
They probably use GSAK or something similar, with that the possibilities are endless!
-
The only way is if you use an email-to-text service, your phone provider may have this.
-
You can store up to 5000 caches on the 450.

As for 3 volt solenoids, they should be possible and available. We used to make decent electromagnets out of nails, wire and a 2 volt carbon cell. That was when I was a kid way back. Since the advent of modern electronics I don't think there is a problem. Or you might have to use a small relay to engage a bigger battery inside (solar charged?). I got the impression that the idea was for a display of information, not a locking system originally, but it's a fair question to ask about solenoids.
Actually 3v solenoids are not that easy to find...had a quick look on ebay.

Another useful google maps feature is using the shift key to show the coordinates of your cursor on the map.
Although this doesn't work with all browsers...not on Opera anyway. You can right click and 'What's here' to show to co-ordinates.
-
In theory it would be illegal as the OS maps are copyright....although I doubt they would worry too much if it's just you doing it!
-
It's a good idea for lower voltages, but not much good for powering a solenoid Unless you can get 3v solenoids.....(I'm off searching now!)
-
I take it you are using the Garmin Communicator? There is an issue with the latest Mac one...search the forums for details as it's a regular subject

He probably knows!!

Fieldnotes You connect your Montana via a USB cable and then upload the logs to the website. This will only do the logs though, the pictures you will have to do manually.

It looks like after you have navigated somewhere, you then the re-navigate and override to navigation settings associated with the profile and use the ones on the 'route activity' .
Although I'm not sure what the difference between 'Automotive on-road' and 'motorcycle on-road' can be??
-
I'll give it a go in a bit...
...but what is the idea with the route activity? Isn't it the same as setting different profiles?
I guess it will only work with Garmin maps and not OSM
I have a Garmin Etrex 30
in How do I...?
Posted
Sure can.
You can put a maximum of 5000 caches on the unit. i.e. 5 GPX files of 1000 caches.
