  1. I have something similar set-up for a cache I am trying to get out. It's a bunch a film canisters with 1 (all you can fit) in it and a CITO+msg label on it. I have about 25 put together so far and ask that the canisters be put back when empty. Almost any film store/location was more than happy to give up there film can stock. one place gave me a whole trash bag of them.
  2. And on a more general note, I think it is the coolest thing on the planet that people are so willing and able to CITO like this. If only I had heard aobut this in HS for the STEP (Students Together for Enviromental Protection) Club. ok, now back o topic.
  3. I would like to add a CITO to my cache in an area that is HEAVILY LITTERED with litterly anything you can think of; cars, computers, bullets/shells, trash of all kind, appliances of all kind. I would like to try to at least get it cleaner, but, it's a huge thing to ask. Is it realistic to ask everyone who finds my cache to fill a plastic bag?
  4. I like that idea. Stuff a bunch of plastic grocery bags in the cache. Politely ask to pick up something(s) on the way out. Good Call!!!
  5. You are only as safe as you are comfortable. As an Uncle, I to have similar thoughts/feelings. Stick with what you know.
  6. Thats one of the coolest ideas. I'm jealous of the creativity.
  7. And what about the 3+/3+ caches, do you have to find one of that nature for every so many lesser caches you find. Or, one virtual cache for every 50 reg. caches:5 earthcaches:1 hide: 10 letterboxes: etc. Yeah, I kinda like that ratio thing...quick, somebody get an attorney...uh, a TEAM. A legal team! Look, it isn't about what the next person is doing, has done, will not do, blah blah blah. I have done nothing, except get a bunch of waypoints together, and get ready to hide 2 caches. Both caches will be VERY hard to get to. Few people will be able to GET to them. Thats all I am going to do. So what. It is about what YOU get out of it. Not "even stephens". So go out, have fun, find what you can, hide what you can, and don't worry about the next guy. Life will take care of itself.
  8. Ok, ok, so thats a bit of an extreme example. Point is, can ppl use other means other than a GPSr
  9. Everyone should at least say an opinion. Thats what the forums are all about, sharing ideas, thoughts, facts fiction whatever.
  10. So, I have been going through the listings and checking out a list of finds to get started on. As I read the logs I find all too many ppl complaining about the lack of signal, low signal, low signal accuracy, etc. Having used topos for my whole life and prefer a map over a GPSr anyday, I have had no problem getting around. I personally only use my GPSr built in to my Nextel phone, which I have found to be VERY accurate 9/10 times. It takes longer to tri., but, I only use it for reference use. Whenever I go 4x'ing, I make sure I have a good topo or two (not all provide the best info) and a rather simple compass. I reliase that the purpose is for getting out there and having fun but, still, should you always rely on something so easily disabled? questions: You are 2 days out, and, your GPSr fails (batts ran out, dropped it, lost it, whatever), what then, look at the stars? (oh yeah, it's cloudy) Do ppl rely on there gadgets to much these days?
  11. OK, SO... If I am following correctly, you want a relitively small (say the size of a pack of cigarettes?) device, elctro-mechanical in one form or another, have a predetermined set of coord's to randomly rotate through the list, low power consumption, near bullet proof, and withstand metoerological extremes? If so, lemme know in reply and I will set it up for you, schematics and all.
