  1. I just got a Motorola Q from Verizon Wireless running Window Mobile 5.0. I love the phone and the interface is great, but apparently none of my caching software will install on the new machine!!! Does anyone know of some caching software that is designed for Windows Mobile 5.0? Is there a possible workaround in the meantime? I was using GPXSonar on my Dell Axim and I loved it. Thanks!
  2. Thanks for all the input! This gives me a great start. I'm going to post the same question on the GSAK board. I've just started playing around with pocket queries and I understand how the filters can help me do what I need it to do. Thanks again!
  3. Okay, granted I've only gotten 20 finds under my belt, but I'm curious as to how you veterans do this. I use a Garmin eTrex Legend (the blue one - 8mb) and I paperless cache with my Dell Axim running GPX Sonar (although I've recently rediscovered CacheMate for the PocketPC). However, I still get all 19 of my finds listed in my GSAK database which, in turn, find their way to my GPSr and my PDA. So, here's my question: How do you keep the logs and finds that you have in GSAK and keep them off your GPSr and PDA after you've found them? I see that GSAK has an "archive" function, but it doesn't seem to do anything (yet). I know there are also filters that can be used with GSAK. Am I on the right track here? Any help will be much appreciated!
  4. Let's see, that's the Windows Mobile OS, yes? I have a Dell Axim that's running Windows and I love it. Here's how I do it using GSAK and a program for the PDA called GPX Sonar (both of which can be found on the resources page on gecaching.com): I'm assuming you've got your database of caches built in GSAK and have output those waypoints to your GPS unit. Install GPXSonar onto your handheld. I just used all the default settings. In GSAK, click File | Export | GPX/LOC File. A dialogue box will pop up. Make sure you have it set to output a GPX file. Your output file destination should be your "Pocket_PC My Documents" folder which in my case resides in my "My Documents" folder. You can name the file anything you want (just make sure it ends in .gpx). There are some other options that you have available to you which are detailed pretty thoroughly in the GSAK Help files. When you have it set the way you want it, click the Generate button and it should take care of itself. If you've got your handheld in your sync cradle, ActiveSync should automatically put the file on your handheld. On you PDA, open GPXSonar and it should find the .gpx file for you. You should now be looking at a list of all of your caches in GSAK. Pick a cache, double-tap on it and it will pull up a slightly modified version of the cache information as it appears on geocaching.com. If you tap-and-hold the same cache, you'll get a pull-down menu with a couple of options. You can't just tap off this menu to go to another one, you have to tap Dismiss Menu. There are couple of things that I really like about GPXSonar, not least of which is the Field Notes section. The Field Notes take allow you to timestamp the find based on the clock in your PDA and allow you to add notes about the cache right there in the field (or notes about not finding it!). After you are done caching for the day, tap Tools | Export | Field Notes | To GSAK. This will create a .txt file that you can then import back into GSAK using File | Notes | Import... GSAK will look in the same Pocket_PC My Documents file listed above. Click import and it should take care of itself. Note that it doesn't already mark the caches as found in GSAK, you still will have to go through and do that manually. Further, you will still have to go to geocaching.com to log the cache "officially" (though there is a sub-menu link to do this when you right click on an individual cache). So, that's it. That's how I do it. Keep in mind, I'm still learning, and there are probably some short-cuts that I don't know about just yet and I'd be happy to hear about them from anyone else watching this thread! I am going to be upgrading to a SmartPhone running the same Windows Mobile OS and I'm hoping that it will work the same way. Happy caching! shakespeareguru
  5. I have my Garmin eTrex Legend connected to my computer via a Serial to USB converter (Belkin). It works fine with the MapSource software that is Garmin branded, however, GSAK won't recognize my unit on the USB port even though I select it in the device setup screen. Is there any way around this issue? Thanks!
  6. Okay. I'm new to this, but I can't find any information about what it means to "stealth cache". I understand all the other icons that alert you to the area surrounding the cache, but I don't think I'm expected to wear a black trenchcoat and sneak around like Inspector Cleuseau. Can someone help me with this?
