  1. We're hoping by then the fire will be burned out and we probably all could use a break with friends.

    Amen.

Sheesh, no kidding. My tent trailer is still hooked up and with Ramona still burning, it looks like it might stay that way until the weekend. So I'm ready to go.

We are pretty much ready also.. We cant wait to get into fresh air. We are waiting to be notified for evac. They had an earlier warning for Rancho San Diego, but retracted it. Looks like the are by cache Golden 94 was burnt.

As it stands right now all roads to the desert are closed, unless you go out 8 to S-2 and backtrack to the 78

    67 closed

    78 closed

We can cut through from S2 to Fish Creek then to the campout. Hmm.. Tundra might not like the Devil's Drop-off though.

  3. WoooHoooooooooo!! Scripps Ranch residents are allowed back in!!! Mayor Sanders just announced it!!!

Also, Del Mar residents who live South of Via de la Valle, West of I-5 and North of Torrey Pines State Beach are allowed back in...

It's also shown on the .KML firemap that was revised at 12:30.

Also, the leg of the fire perimeter that looked like it had burned south to Poway Road has been revised back and now the southern most edge of the perimeter is at Lake Poway...

We are probably going to be heading back soon.

Where is the KML fire map?

They also said to boil the water first before drinking it, until the clear to repairs.

  4. And Now For Something Completely Different, the ability to change one's username has been reinstated. Here's a link to the thread that provides the information needed: Announcement Thread

Thanks the gods of geocaching! Now I can finally be accepted as a !

    :)

I am going to change it though... :)

Did you submit your application to Team Exclamation??:):)

The check is in the mail.. B)

  5. Look like puzzle valley is not in a happy place.. may already be gone. I have parents that live about a mile from Jamacha Rd and they have not been evacuated. They must be on the right side.

    Jahoadi & John -

Have you received any evac calls?

  6. Is anyone interested in camping in the desert Oct 19th-21st. Historia and I are planning to camp in Hawk Canyon or other nearby location. I thought someone else may be interested in 4x4'n. We may change plans if we have no one to pair up with. The more the better. :anitongue: I wanted to cache in a few spots before the campout. Moderate to easy trails is our plan. Just seeing were the trails take us. Anyone notice that there are very few puzzles in that area? :D

  7. I'd like to fit in the Carrizo Gorge Trestle caches, if anyone else is game...

I wouldn't mind heading out that way. I'd like to get some photos (I'm building a trestle for my backyard railway...). Would there be an opportunity to get "Melting Pot" while we were in the area?

I don't see the Melting Pot; whats the GC#?

My bad...not sure why my brain altered the name...

    Powder Can Cache (GC161)

That looks good also. So many choices. This is good. We can at least list what is going on and other can choose to join. We should probably include difficulties for those with hike, or the roll your jeep types.. :D Those are way south of the campout..

  8. We are looking forward to the campout coming up. Last year, we were trying to figure out what to do and at the last minute, we found out that the bombing range and jet engine was going to be visited. We ended up joining a group and had a great time. BTW, Skillet was awesome leading us safely through the area! It was a blast.

The desert campout is around the corner and I wanted to see if we could coordinate a caching run or two for Saturday. A couple would allow for others to have options. This gathering continues to grow and I know we want everyone to have fun in the sun. I was thinking more along the lines of 4x4 in the sand trails myself, but there are also many caches right off the road as well as hikes. I do not know the area that well, but between everyone in this forum, we have probably been everywhere in that park. I here that the mud hills series or the slots may be a good choice.

We were out with M2 this weekend and mostly drove in the sand with a just a few cache finds. Our goal was more for the scenery and we were not is appointed. We had a great time and saw some really cool spots and the weather could not have been better! I should remember my camera next time! (I could kick myself)

Any ideas or suggestion on runs? Hopefully, we can get Ramius' jeep dirty along with some others. :P Also, when should everyone be back to start the evening events? It appears that 11-5pm is the geocaching window. :)

  9. Sweet! Check out the new geocaching google maps:

They must be testing, but the map is back to normal. The one I saw allowed you to see a much bigger map with options to remove types of caches as well as finds and owned caches. It was pretty cool. I love that they always improve the site. I can't wait for it to come back into production.

  10. Good news, mostly. the fire rating in the Cleveland NF has been lowered. Some areas are closed due to the recent fires. Lawson will probably be available again, but I will have to check the trailhead.

    REF: Fire Rating

The following areas are closed due to the fire:

    Horsethief Trailhead

    Hauser Wilderness

    Pine Creek Wilderness

    Corral Canyon OHV Area

    Corral Canyon Road

    Kernan Cycle Trail

  11. We now have our 'official' campout logo on t-shirts, cups, thongs...etc....thanks to Caching Widow who

generously used her talents to design it for us!! Go to the campout page.....GC15J5X and click on the

CafePress link and shop away!! There is one rule however..........anybody that purchases the 'thong' will be required to model it at the campfire!

I went to the website. I see that you can order boxers but I didn't see the thong B)

Are we going to have an underwear party around the fire or something? I can see Fattboy being the first one at the campfire...

 I feel afraid, very afraid...

Don't be afraid Paul. After a several beers, your fear will go away. Then you and Fattboy will be dancing around the fire in your new SD Cacher thongs.... :laughing:B)

P.S. I'm just kidding Paul!

LOL then everyone else would be afraid! B)

Very cool and congrats! I will have to take the kids to that next year. (They are the brains, you know)

  14. :D I just so happened to open up a cache and find a whole handful of freshly printed TNG #3 cards! Yahooo! They are so awesome!! I only took a couple ( gonna sell one to Harmon) and I left about 8 behind! Which cache you ask? It's kind of appropriate

So tell us, is it true that pieces of each card are hidden individually and you must find all the pieces to the puzzle before you can assemble one card ? That would be the way Paul would have designed it.

That is funny, because I thought about scrambling the card as a cache puzzle.. :D I already have a couple jigsaw types.. All I have to say, is I am glad my sock are bunched!

What a great choice of cacher - and card! For us puzzle lovers :o TA has definitely contributed to the sport!

Don't you think these cards would make great milestone prizes? :D:o:D

:D I bet we have to solve a puzzle to find the first card huh? Awesome job on the card design! :D
OK, if you say so... :D

At one point, I was considering designing a puzzle into the card. :o But, being that I was already taking far too long to get the design done, I shelved that idea...

Harmon suggested that I put the coordinates for one of Paul's caches into the card (one that he had not solved yet... :P ). I didn't think Paul would approve so I didn't do that either. Sorry about that.

Both ideas were good and would have been accepted by me. I like the design alot. Thanks for the TLC. Lot of love in the air!

  17. Many 4x4 trails are closed from fires, etc., so I was thinking about Otay Mountain Truck Trail this weekend. It should be open, unless someone knows different. Saturday morning is the plan. Anyone is welcome to join. The terrain is a dirt, grated road for most of the path. There are some off-shoots I am interested in exploring and 4x4 may be helpful. Nothing extreme though. It would be about 6+ hours with great views.

    TA

Halfway on the truck trail, I may head north onto Otay Lakes Rd. I do not have any of those caches. Does anyone know if you can drive all the way through to connect to the main Otay Lakes Rd? I seem to be talking to myself. ;)

    TA

;) I'm just waiting for you to answer your last question ;)

    ;)

  18.

If you are talking about trying to exit the truck trail near the cache called "1000 Trail Overlook", the time I went you couldn't exit here. We couldn't find a way out since the road on google near the park isn't really there and the park has all the accesses blocked-off from that road you follow don to it. We turned around and went back up the hill to the saddle near "On a Clear Day" and then continued down to the 94 near "Still Standing IV". Although if you don't want to go all the way to the 94 side, you could just go back out the way you came in from the west.

The only other advice would be, if you drive in from the west, you should drive past several of the caches and you will find a small road that cuts back closer to the cache. This can save you several hikes (and time).

Sounds good. There are a couple spots I am looking to maybe check out, depending on who goes.
