  1. "today's young whippersnappers have no idea how to open them" Perhaps they'll have a second life as child-proof containers
  2. The thing is, you can't put expectations on a large group of people and expect everyone to follow them. People cache for different reasons (as has been displayed here), and you can't fault ANYONE whether they don't sign the log at all or if they write a novel online. That's part of being a CO, I would think. I think that is what will be hard about coming up with an etiquette that everyone will agree on.
  3. Lol, doesn't sound like these make very good finder-friendly caches... Glad I caught the the thread so I'll know when I run into one.
  4. Maps can also be obtained on microSD cards, which can be transferable. However, once the card is pulled out, the maps won't be available. You might be able to find them used online.
  5. Thanks, it looks like it is gonna be nice this weekend, so planning on trying a few.
  6. Lol, batteries and... free time!
  7. Been checking over the site/forums the last couple of days and wanted to post a hello msg. I'm fairly new to geocaching... did several a while back with a friend and his kids (GPS was an eTrex Legends if that gives you an idea how long ago). Just started working at Garmin not to long ago and being exposed to this got me interested again. My phone has pretty great GPS functionality (with a couple of apps), but I am deciding between the Oregon 450t and the GPS62st as they both would be great for hiking/camping. Even with snow, I am planning on trying a few this weekend if the forecast holds and it warms up a bit...
  8. As others have stated, it sounds like you've planned a lot for these. The only suggestions I would make is that if you paint these, you can lightly sand the outside of smooth plastic to roughen up the surface which allows the paint to adhere better. The paint tends to flake off otherwise... make sure to wash it off after, or you'll be painting over the loose plastic you just sanded. If you're planning on these being out in the wild for years, a couple layers of paint wouldn't hurt. Also, if you end up using the textured paint (like the sandstone you mentioned), use 2-3 very light coats as the compressed air from the spray will "push" the flecks around that are still wet. Make sure you let us know when they're placed, you might be surprised at how many people might be in the area. As a new cacher myself, I'd love to go hunting for them!
