  1. wierd! well.... I add maps to my etrex 20 using the internal storage as well as SD card, with mapsource... but it cant do waypoints. way to go GARMIN... duh! well, now that I can see my waypoints in basecamp... that feature doesnt matter in mapsource! thanks sussamb... you have been really helpful and generous! have a great week! C
  2. AGGGGGH! why do programs do that... I am supposed to just luck into dragging that point to see the most crucial part of a gps program! thanks Sussamb!I didnt hide it before!!! I swear!

  4. sussamb, thanks for the reply! etrex 20, fully updated basecamp v 4.0.1 mapsource v 6.16.3 1. I did a recieve from gps in basecamp.. waypoint shows in the my collection by date... when I go to mapsource, and say recieve from gps, it downloads but says there is no data... I assume it is because I did basecamp first..? my issue is getting waypoints OFF the gps into each program seperately.... basecamp works fine.. (except for the view issue I am having) but mapsource says there is no waypoints on device... even if I mark and name one (test for example) then plug in, go to mapsource and say receive... it says no waypoints. 2. in basecamp, I dont have any icon like that... here is my screen...
  5. I have a couple questions... googled endlessly, but putting search terms mapsource and waypoint in the forum search is useless. 1. if I download my data in basecamp, a waypoint I marked this weekend... it wont let me do same in mapsource..... is there a way to use both... both have features I need. 2. waypoints in basecamp... is there a better way to view my waypoints then the file tree of "my collection", "data received from GPSr" by date folders? I cant believe there isnt a waypoint listing or SOMETHING built into it... but I have tried EVERY iteration of views and toolbars... and nada...
  6. ok in settings, I see now I can tell it to use auto magnetic! why is it you cant find an answer until you start a post!
  7. OK, I set up a compass course for my cub scout pack in the park. I made 10 waypoints, and used basecamp to measure distance and bearing... my question is.. do I need to worry about declination or does my gps do that for me when it tells me a bearing if I then went to use a compass ( that was the cub activity) example, I am at point one, in basecamp I use the measure tool to get 350 ft. 90 degrees true to point 2. my Declination = 14° 6' E so I need to subtract 14 degrees and put on the course sheet 350ft. 76 degrees? the kids were off today, I had it set very "loosely" so they still found most points... but it was pi**ing me off.... can someone tell me how to get from gps/basecamp bearings to a bearing for compass use? I guess I am having that magnetic vs true north issue, which I get on a map, my issue is I dont want to mess up again when going from gps to compass! thanks!! C
  8. I am doing a compass primer before we go do our regional scouting Orienteering meet with our cub scout pack... I want to do a dozen or so points in our park, and make a few courses that the kids have to do ... go from start, .2 miles 90 degrees, mark the code, go .1 miles 270 degrees etc... in mapsource, is the Routing tool the best to measure distance and bearing between waypoints that I have marked on my GPSr (etrex 20)...? is there a better way/tool to do this? I just want to be able to pick 2 waypoints and know the distance and bearing between them... OR if there is some site that does this auto, that would be awesome too... I know some of you have done this! thanks for any tips! Carson
  9. I want to do a geocache day for my cub scout pack... I would like to do like a crumbs on the trail, or treasure hunt//scavenger hunt style, go to a go to b go to c style outing... is that a "thing" in the geocache community? if so, what is it called in the cache listings... or should I just search up a few of varying difficulty and build it myself or...? any thoughts? TIA Carson
