  1. Welcome, KiltedCanuck! I'm in Calgary too, we've got our own forum if you want to keep up with all that's going on locally.
  2. heehee, why don't you tell us how you really feel VP? And now politicians too...
  3. One Bad Ant usually sets up a Pizza & Beer event on the last Thursday of the month. This month it's a week early due to our CAR (Cache and Release) event on May 1/2. There are actually a few aspects to the CAR event. First is a brunch being planned I think for Saturday morning before we start searching for new caches at noon. Then of course the main part of the weekend, finding as many caches as you can/want in a 24 hour period. The wrap up is Sunday May 2nd and the page is here. The Saturday night event is a chance to get a midnight snack before turning in/starting out/heading out again. If all that weren't enough, I know TeamDJM is planning another breakfast at Southside Humptys in Lethbridge the same day. At the last breakfast, I was talking to morningrifter and I think they are planning another CARL (Cache and Release Lethbridge) for June, I'm looking forward to attending this year... For the newbs, if you sign up for the newsletter from Groundspeak, you'll get notified of anything close by if your home coordinates are set up. FMA, we crossed paths on the weekend, I was coming from Lethbridge to Calgary. D8kat, I've seen some of your logs. AKDP, I found this topic from your post on CAC forums. Welcome all!
  4. off topic, but I feel like I got the scoop on that news. I think you'll be welcomed back warmly.
  5. I got to discover one of your great coins during Grey Cup weekend last year. HomerJFong was in Calgary and he shared it and some others.
  6. GeoWyrm, if you're in Calgary, we hold events monthly to get together. There are also special events on occasion. The next Pizza & Beer (family friendly) is this Thursday. If you're in Red Deer or Edmonton, I know they do regular events as well. I can't speak for other parts of the province though. welcome to AB!

  8. almost into paradise, but still not I guess I should be nice to you, if I recall, you know the whereabouts of a certain nano on a certain giant truck...
  9. I just sent a note off to COG to see if I can get my hands on some of these... Obviously with my name, it has great appeal. thanks for sharing.
  10. <<major bump>> I was searching for a current forum or website for Alberta South. Anyone know if something still exists?
  11. I agree with the archived caches, the best way would be to have your own query built on a bookmark list. However, to get an update of your active caches, you could build a PQ of caches 'I own' from the PQ page. I set this up for someone just last night and it got his 21 active hides and one temporarily disabled. This would only require one time setup (assuming caches are close enough to a centre point to be included) whereas a bookmark list would need to be updated each time you hide a cache. That said, I would still advocate for a "My Hides" PQ right below the "My Finds" query...
  12. hmmmm I guess I am not following you. There are no guarantees to anything but what else is this forum for? Groundspeak, on numerous occasions, has replied to other ideas. A single email is from one person, versus several posts voting in the positive, is much better and should elicit a response! Whenever I've emailed them for suggestions, they reply and ask me to post it on the forums for discussion.
  13. I'd rather go with the unpublished cache option. I think there would be less confusion for other cachers that might see there are bugs/coins in your cache and go to the location. I also know one cacher that activates all his coins then has another account that picks them up after the first drop. At first I thought it was a nasty coin thief that had it out for this cacher until it was explained to me.
  14. Except I have no cache info. that can happen from time to time. I usually try to do my PQs a day or two in advance if I'm travelling. In fact I experienced the delay myself as I ran 5 PQs on Wednesday and a couple more each of the last two days. I did notice they were a bit slow in coming but I wasn't worried, I had plenty of time. Now, I'm about to hit the road and cache on the way to my parents place for the Canadian Thanksgiving weekend. I'd like to thank OpinioNate and Moun10Bike (and all their colleagues) for working on this and other issues that arise. I don't know how they keep up with the volume of messages that come in. I am thankful for them. Happy Thanksgiving!
  15. oh, I was hoping it would be a way for us to create PQs to our own specifications...caches by a username, hidden within a polygon (one quadrant of a city, along a river route, etc.), anything else you can do to massage caches in GSAK. then bring it back to GSAK for updates
  16. I don't like to promote WM but that's a different story. Did find some there, also in paint section I think, for about a third the price of CT.
  17. I say they allow locationless caches back for one day, so that I can log 1 (joking... joking... ) They did!! Yesterday!!! <chuckle><chuckle> There's a sundial one that I saw the other day, and I wish that I could have logged Colonel By's sundial on Parliament Hill - Oh well, I'm not too torn up about it though - This is the price of only hearing about caching in 2007 I had only six months as a casual cacher to get a locationless but then I had never heard of them at the time. It would be nice to be able to log one though for the icon...
  18. I would love it if I could dip mine or other people's coins/TBs in an EarthCache. I have a couple of my own coins that I carry with me just to dip in special caches, I even have a virtual ghost coin that mainly gets logged only at virtuals. For me, it adds a fun element to the game. I usually get a picture of 'ghosty' at the site too. I know I can take pictures and post them for an EC but to be able to track the mileage would be a benefit as well. To go off topic for a moment, I'd like to address the whole virtual/EC/waymark thing. Discarding the simple fact that I find Waymarking *way* too cumbersome to navigate the site/download/log/etc..., I don't think ECs are anything like a waymark. There is a rigorous screening process in place to make sure the ECs are of a certain quality. Most of the virtuals I've done have an educational component that has increased my knowledge. Waymarking on the other hand, anyone can walk down a street and snap pictures of every business and find some category to post it in. I'm not saying there is anything wrong with that because I have logged some of those waymarks. I just want to point out IMO, ECs are more significant than a waymark. As such, it would be nice to be able to track my bugs/coins through them the same as virtuals. thanks.
  19. I was talking about geocaching and Groundspeak (forums) server time. Just checked again and the cache pages seem to be GMT now while the forums were two hours behind (I am in Mountain time and Groundspeak is of course Pacific). Clicked on the link and updated my settings from PDT to MDT. If the time at the bottom of the forums page is supposed to be Seattle, then all is good. thanks Yossarian.
  20. Ah Shilo, it was yours that broke it then hey? I've tried to do the recalc myself a few times these last couple of weeks, to no avail.
  21. I've noticed that since about the time we changed the clocks (March 8), the server time has been two hours different from my local time (MDT). I thought it was usually just an hour (PDT). Anyone else notice this too?
  22. FoF, enjoy your time in Canada! My family descends from your area, roughly. As for caches to visit, I would recommend a couple of earthcaches, Moneyed Waters (GC16HB4), Johnston Canyon Lower Falls (GC1BAPY) both in Banff. Moneyed Waters gives a great history tour of how Banff came to be a park and very interesting geological information. The lower falls is a short (1.1 km one way) hike and can be busy so it's best to be there early if you want to avoid crowds. I am trying to get my own EC approved further up the trail from the lower falls and that would be an 11 Km hike round trip. Another neat one that's west of Banff is the Paint Pots (GCG1TR), one of my favourites. if you're doing that one, may as well grab a virtual at the Great Divide (GC8160). Jasper is a beautiful area, I'll even say I prefer it over Banff but I haven't been there since I started caching. I would probably recommend GC1JTPJ though as it gives you a bit of a tour of the townsite. There is also a guided walk (not caching related) that is run out of the visitor centre. Last time i was there it was only two or three dollars. Well worth it to me. As for Vancouver/Victoria, I'll be there in July myself so maybe you could recommend some to me after you visit. I will be going to Stanley Park for sure and doing a few there. again, enjoy your stay.
  23. I found this one with my brother in Early December. It's called bird garage but there was a proximity issue so the owner made the final a projection from this photo. neat cache once I figured out the hints.
  24. mmhhmmm "don't leave home without it" means your GPSr.
