  1. Yup -- what the robot said.

I go through this every couple of years when the Army moves us. I learned to name my notifications after the new home location (e.g., New Charlottesville Event, New Montgomery Puzzle, New El Paso Letterbox) so it helps me remember to update in time for the next move.

I do the same (naming the notifications) but just because I have three distinct areas I usually cache in (and don't want to miss remote, mountain top FTF possibilities) which covers 80 km each. Then I have text notifications for anything within about 15 km of home which is about the furthest I can go before any chance of an FTF is possible.

  2. Depending on how the caches got onto your device in the first place, reloading from a filtered list in GSAK would be the easiest way IMO.

Do you load your caches regularly with GSAK? If so, just create a new list with the User Flag or a different database and load only those caches. That's my regular workflow and it is slick.

To add to what StefanD said, you are probably looking for the geocaches.gpx file in the Garmin\GPX\ folder on your device. I have the 62s and believe that's the right path/file name but don't have access to it right now.

  3. The local caches ,including a reviewer, divided up looking after the caches. Most were in places that would require a hike, so usually newbies didn't go looking for them. If multiple DNFs were logged, they went out and checked on them. As far as I know, none had a NA logged on them. They even chipped in to pay for a memorial picnic table in one of the open space parks in the area. There is a TB tag on it.

    Cool. :)

What a great way to remember a member of the community!

  4. I've been looking for a reliable way to see who and how many people have found both the Brass Cap Cache and Ye Ole Survey Monuments. I understand project GC can do it if you're a paid member but I don't have the budget for that right now.

Does anyone know another way or would be willing to check for me?

Also, I'd like to compare Cleopatra's Needle - London with Cleopatra's Needle - New York.

These two sets are quite far apart and hold special interest for me. I'm curious as to who else has been lucky enough to get both sets.

    Thanks in advance.

  5. Ok, I gave it a try and got the same results. Looks good as far as the actual log date when editing my field notes.

I had some existing field notes that I haven't had time to log yet. I also created a couple of notes each in Geosphere and Cachesense at varied times to simulate the same day locally but different for UTC. They both exhibit the correct day when logging before 5 PM local time (UTC-7) on the drafts page, those after 5 PM show April 13. Finally, I created a note in the official geocaching app and it showed up on the correct date regardless of time.

Now, once the time comes back to the drafts page, I'll be completely happy again. :)

  6. I use this page a lot. It's the quickest way I know to find other user names. It's not location specific but you could quite easily find all the name that start with 'gator.' Because it only lists names that start with your keyword and does not accept wildcards like % or *, it could be of limited value for you. For my needs though, it works.

After typing the above, I realized this thread is a year old. If you go to the main search page (Play | Find a Geocache), you can filter for caches hidden by a user name. Again, no wildcards but if you know the beginning of the name, it will actually autofill as you go...

  7. I have been having this issue too and it has been causing me great frustration. My testing scenarios are not as extensive as theBruce0's but I can confirm it is not an issue isolated to Geosphere.

In the attached photo, I tried four different apps and all produced inconsistent results. It should be noted, I was in BC for the first one (UTC -8) and all the others were done in Alberta (UTC -7). The last column lists the app and date/time the log was created. The discrepancies range from six hours before to nine hours after.

Let me know if I can be of any further help in testing/troubleshooting.

  8. I'm also having issues today. Three of 9 ran OK but the rest are still showing as queued after four hours.

After reading some replies above, I also tried editing one of them and resubmitting it. No difference, it is still queued 30 minutes later.

As things go, this is a minor issue but it feels so disconcerting to not have the latest cache info before I head out tomorrow... :P

  9.

When I click to Bookmark a cache, the page which pops up (as you have shown) is populated with the cache name, next is a choice of which existing list this cache is to be added. There is no option for the newly bookmarked cache to go to a new list.

Is this behavior intended? Why can't we have the option to create a new list at the page you show?

    +1

Also, I just thought it would be nice to be able to make PQs from more than one list (i.e. caches along a route and a certain larger radius around a town along the way).

  10. If you have already chimed in, please feel free to post an additional response that addresses the two themes below:

    • The name of a bookmark automatically defaults to the cache name when you create a bookmark. Have you ever changed the name of a bookmark in one of your lists? Why did you feel the need to give it a name other than the cache name? How frequently do you change the names of bookmarks? Please list out the reasons you would change the name of bookmarks. Please see the picture below for reference.

    • In creating a bookmark, how do you use 'comments' differently or the same as the 'bookmark name'?

I've already chimed in above but with the new questions, here's my feedback on the new questions:

    • Changing the name is something I do often to sort by date found, country/province/state or just alphabetizing based on a key word in the cache name.

    • I use the comments section to make notes for myself or to expand on why I've bookmarked it. This can be for challenge caches (including adding ** to a challenge cache to put it at the top of the list) or other purposes.

  11. I agree with basically everything hurleyanne said but here's my own input as well.

    1. Do you use lists?

    • Yes! can't do without them

    2. How do you currently use lists? Why do you put caches on lists? Are there list related tasks that are tough to do?

    • Keeping track of challenge cache qualifications
    • Caches for specific trips (mega, vacation road trip) or purposes (lonely caches, fizzy, jasmer, etc.)
    • “Maybe Some Day” caches that are unique and fun to look at
    • Caches that were created by a certain cacher but adopted out (mainly for historical purposes)
    • Unique icons (e.g. all of Canada’s webcams)
    • I use the TB watchlist too for keeping an eye on friends trackables, ones I’ve moved that have an interesting mission, some that may be missing, etc.

    3. How would you like to use lists? Is there functionality that is missing that would improve your experience?

    • First off, I use lists a lot and would like to have the ability to make more than 100 of them.
    • When caching with others, it would be nice to have a shared bookmark list that we can use to build PQs, for example, I create a list and give access to a certain users(s) to edit the list.
    • Separate from shared access lists, have another level for viewing (private, public and friends only)
    • When adding a cache to a list, it would be nice to click on the bookmark link and be able to create a new list from there or choose an existing list from a drop down.
    • It would be great if the list looked more like a search result with columns for distance, favourites, found, description, info, D/T, Placed, Found
    • I don’t really use the app but it would be nice to have the ability to filter a list or map view on the app to a certain bookmark list

    Same as some others:

    •
    • Download as GPX w/account-specific info (similar to showing found status on the web list), not just barebones LOC list.
    • Batch modification; not just Delete from list - Copy or Move to another list (especially useful when viewing others' lists).
    • creating a list from the search tool, and using that to create PQs to send to a GPS sounds excellent
    • when I am looking at other people's lists it would be nice to see which caches I have found like I can with the lists I make
    • add "lists" to the "Play" drop-down menu

  12. There is not an app for Waymarking however there is a mobile site with some nice functionality http://www.chilehead.us/wm

I heard from ChileHead today, there is an alternate URL that can be used instead of this one which does not seem to keep me logged in.

    http://geotrailsw.com/wm/

Its a pity its not on an app so that you can download to an offline folder for when you are out. You are in need of a good signal on your phone which is not always possible

I agree about the offline list.

Not to mention I do most of my Waymarking away from home (ie. out of the country so data rates would be expensive or otherwise not an option).

It's probably a case of not enough love for Waymarking and the bulk of the resources are put towards the more popular and moneymaking areas.

  13. Geocoinfest Calgary, Alberta?!?!?!?

Come enjoy some Alberta Beef and pick up a few coins while you're here.

And don't forget, we're about an hour from the Rockies with tons of hiking, national parks and well, just the best looking mountains around.

  14. The Activation code can be obtained from the Cache Buddies webpage.

Nothing is too big to attache to a travel bug. I saw one that had a fridge door. I don't think it got left in many geocaches. It mostly went from event to event, getting passed between cachers that way.

PM sent to OP regarding activation code.

Also, I know that fridge door. I brought it from Great Falls, MT to Calgary (where Andronicus probably saw it) then had someone drive it to Vancouver Island when I flew there for Island Spirit 2012.

  15. I also noticed that yesterday, when trying to log some TBs. Turns out I was hitting the enter key (ehich I've always done) after entering the code. When I entered the code then clicked the 'Track' button, all was good. Could that be the issue? If so, I'll report it on the release notes thread.

  16. Great I found the cgeo app and it works great! The accuracy is +- 6 meters.. Good enough to play the game.... Thanks :)

While c:geo is a popular app, it is not one officially approved by Groundspeak. I don't need to get in to the details here but just search the forums for c:geo and you will find an abundance of opinions but some information too.

In addition, smart phones are great for finding but the accuracy is not good enough to trust on its own for placing caches. Not to say it can't be done, just make sure you verify with someone who has a GPSr or check on google Earth/maps.

  17. I see she had an event the other day. You could try posting a note there too.

Although I would venture to say if she is active, she is likely getting notifications but it may be to an email she checks infrequently. Not everyone checks their email daily so be patient I would say.

  18. There is still a link on the profile page to "Search for geocaches near your home location" - click on that then one more click on the "Placed" header and the events pop to the top. Voila!

It does not work as well as the link for newest in our province. We love to know what events are going on all over our province and attend when we can. The method you mentioned showed 1 event compared to the 6 that are listed now. At times, the newest in our province has a whole page of events listed. We would never know what was going on.

Living in Calgary, we have a few events a month usually. I also like to check out events going on in Red Deer and Edmonton (150 & ~300 km north), Lethbridge (160 km south) and Medicine Hat (160 km SE). While the above suggested method works to a degree, it is still not as fully functional as the old way.

I also used it for finding event information quickly. ("Wait, what time does that start again? Let's check the event page.")

    Please bring it back.

    +1

That's exactly how I found out it was gone. An hour ago I was checking to see what time tonight's event starts and then I got caught up in this thread.

That link is missed, please consider its return.

Now off to the event I go...
