  1. Hi everyone, thanks for all the info and ideas! I tried cleaning the disk still had the problem. Then copied all three disks to the hard drive, it keep looking for the disk in the CD drive and would just quit the install. During all this I noticed it seemed to be writing the files to the directory I told it to and then deleteing them when the install went south, so when it finished and asked for disk one the first time I turned the computer off...I know... After it check the hard drive for errors I started the install again it told me there was already a Map Source product installed and asked if I wanted to go ahead with the install. I said yes and everything went perfect from there on. Go figure! Anyway it's working! Now, I can take the maps on the road with me. Thanks again, Jeff
  2. I have City Select on my desktop and wanted it on my laptop. Using the Install disk I get to the point where it asks for disk 1. I put it in and click ok...it just keeps asking for the disk. It's like it's not seeing that the disk is in the drive. I've checked the laptop by installing other software, it is working fine. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Jeff
  3. Thanks Spyderweb We are getting ready to take a 5 state trip out west and you had some ideas in your post I had not thought of. Guess I better get an extra set of rechargable batteries. Thanks! Jeff
  4. I don't know if it will help any and maybe you have read this but it might be worth a read. I would like to start using an Ipaq one of these days so if you run up on some good info please let me know. Good Luck! http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php?showtopic=102599
  5. I recently purchased the 76CS and so far I’m very impressed with it. There are several differences between the units. The 76CS has a much larger section of memory, 56 MB in the 60CS vs. 115 MB in the 76CS. The basemap in the 76CS has more detail. Is's the same map as used in the Streetpilot 2620, 2650, and 2660 also in the GPSMAP 276C, 296 and the Quest. They both have built in quad helix antennas. The 76CS is just over 2 ounces heavier than the 60CS and about $40.00 more mail order. Also accoding to Garmins website the 76CS battery life is 10 hrs longer. Garmins product comparison page: http://www.garmin.com/outdoor/compare.jsp For me the differences were worth the extra money. We travel 5 or 6 states at a time and this way I can have all the maps I may need in the unit without having to stop and upload maps from the laptop. As far as reception goes I really can’t compare as I have never used the 60CS. I normally get 6 to 7 satellites in my backyard with a huge tree right behind me to the west. I can sit inside the house and get 4 or 5 satellites pretty regularly. I have used it in the car holding it right in front of me against the steering wheel while changing settings and had no problem receiving several satellites. In the holder on the dash I have never lost signal even on country roads with lots of tree cover. For me the 76CS is definitely the right unit. But I don’t think you can go wrong with either one. Good Luck!
  6. I'll second that HOLY COW!! I love this stuff!! It just keeps getting better!
  7. Hi Neo_Geo You seem to be bailing me out a lot, Thank you! That works great. My wife and I found our first cache today! It was a lot of fun! I think we are really going to enjoy this. Thanks to everyone!
  8. Great, that did it. The only problem is it sets a straight line to the cache. If I need to use autorouting to get to the cache site, once there I would change over to Off Road find the cache and then I could mark it as found. Is that correct? Thanks for your help! Hi Sputnik 57, I decided on the 76CS it's an amazing machine. Thanks for your help earlier!
  9. According to the manual when you navigate to a geocache the compass page changes to "Geocache Navigation" mode. Which will give you 3 choices along the bottom of the screen, "Found" "Data" "Stop". Mine never changes to this it just stays a normal Compass screen. Anyone have any idea what could be the problem? The Unit is a Garmin 76CS and everything else seems to be working fine. I downloaded the info from Geocaching.com and uploaded it to the 76cs using EasyGPS. I did have to go and change the "symbol" in EasyGPS from "Waypoint" to "Geocache" before the 76cs would recognize it as a geocache instead of a normal Waypoint. Anyone have any ideas or had this problem before? Thanks,
  10. How do you select between the different map packages that you've up loaded maps from? Can you use more that 2 sources, say Mapsource Topo, CitySelect and POI? Will all this also work with the 76cs? Thanks,
  11. Hi Pete, I don't really have any info for you, just thought I would say hello and I would also be interested the same info. Good Luck, Jeff
  12. Sounds like it's time for someone to supply another offering... Jeff
  13. What's up with the unlock codes...? With City Select are you able to use maps from any part of the US? Is City Select about all the software needed? I read something about unlocking only one region, is that a different piece of software. Thanks for the help, Jeff
  14. Thanks everyone! This is great info, now I have a feel for what kind of memory usage a map takes up. That was a big problem, I didn't even know how to guess. Now if I can decide which unit to buy I'll be in business. Anyone have any experience with mail order companies? Thanks again! Jeff
  15. I just plotted this in City Select ver 6. It takes 27.6MB. If you go ahead and grab all of Denver, just to have it, it is 31.0 MB. (Neo Geo is dadgum good!). Remeber that even if you just load the areas you will be staying, the unit will autoroute on the basemap along interstates and other major roads. You don't have to have detailed maps for the entir route. E.g., you could just load the maps around Wichita, Denver, Cheyanne, Billings, Idaho Falls and Billings (18.1MB) and use the basemap for all points in between. Of course, since this entire route fits on the 60C, you could load it all if you wanted to. Thanks for taking the time to try all this out. It really helps to see several ways to do this. Looks like I had better get busy... Thanks,
  16. Newer versions of MapSource make this easy! Just plot and calculate your route, then click on "Edit" and then click on "Select Maps Around a Route". MapSource will automatically select all of the maps which contain your route. You can then go back and select other map segments where the route comes close to unselected segments to be sure you have good coverage in case you need to stray a little from the route. Now this sounds like the way to go. I had in mind to see if I could just pick the areas near my intended route. It looks like you were very close in your prediction. Thanks very much for the help, Jeff
  17. I agree I like the way the 60CS feels it just seems to be a more natural layout. I will probably have a laptop but was hoping to be able to load everything for the trip out. Then if I need to load the local area while we are there. It sounds like I could get everything I need in and may have a little room to spare. Thanks for your help!
  18. I am new to GPS receivers and am looking at the Garmin 60CS or 76CS. As far as I can tell the main difference is memory. How much do you need? I also would like to use it on trips we make from Kansas to Montana, Wyoming and Idaho. Is it possible to have all the maps I would need loaded at one time. What would the extra memory buy me? Sorry if this has been discussed I read a lot of the postsand didn't see a lot of info Thanks for any information! Jeff
