  1. Does anyone know if anyone is working on a geocaching application for the New Nintendo DSI.
  2. I forgot to mention that regular travelbugs and geocoins will qualify as travellers. The Amazing Travelbug Race
  3. PG Cachers is proud to announce the Amazing Travel Bug Race. The race will start April 1,2008 and end October 1,2008. Go to PGcachers.com and then click on the Travelbug Race. This will take you to the official rules for the race.
  4. Another cheap route is Pins. You can get them so that they are trackable on GC and they are about half the price of geocoins and 1/4 the price if they aren't trackable
  5. Is there presently a thread discussing this anywhere. If there is could some one send me a link. Thanks
  6. I have been thinking about getting a personal coin done. A friend of mine has done an image up for me. I am looking for some feedback on the coin. I have attached the link to view the coin. http://www.pgcachers.com/images/Stormcloud-Geocoin.jpg http://www.pgcachers.com/images/Stormcloud-Geocoin-back.jpg
  7. My unit is doing the same thing. I recieved it for Christmas and have no proof of purchase. Magellan support absolutly sucked. They played games and at one point the tech had no idea what he was talking about and contradicted there own web information. They then refer me to the canadian repair center tha has a answering machine and asks for a proof of purchase also. Why do we bother regestering our product with them. My suggestion is to try a different battery. I found a slim one from a Motorola phone and have not had the fade to black since but i use the car charger alot due to the limited capacity.
  8. There are many canoe trips in BC. One of my favorites is Murlte Lake in Wells Grey Park. Its the biggist canoe onlyakes in north america. It is also one of the few places where you will see large flocks loons. Last time i was there i counted over 50 in one flock. Huge yellow sand beachs for camping on. There are also hikes all around the lake if you would like to climb a mountian or two.
  9. It would probably be as good as and M&M container and and Asprin container. Studies have shown that just one Geocache will creat an addiction for finding small containers.
  10. This was very helpful. It gave a great starting point and a nudge in the right direction for me at least. Wilipedia is a better starting point than Google as it gives a person a basis to figure out a google search that would be more affective. Thanks for the Nudge.
  11. I wouldn't stop posting just because you got jumped on this time. They do it to each other all the time. Heck wait till you get into a contenious issue over a rating system or whether Geocaching is a sport or a game. There were three different cipers mentioned. Caesar ciper, Vignere code, PLAYFAIR cipher(is this real or some one just having fun). I have no idea what they are. We have no puzzle caches in our area. Could someone give a breif discription of them and how they work. I would assume a general discussion of cipers that are not cache specific would be okay on the forum.
  12. Laminate the label and then contact cement the lable onto the container. It will also help to cover the holes in the box. You can also lamenate the cood's and use fishing weights to hold it under water. Left one in my fish tank for over a month and the injet printing never ran. I made the paper small enough i could use tarp grouments on the corners.
  13. I think that Geocaching is very ethical. We just had an ABC event where i got to meet a group of local cachers. These were great people. I have never meet a cacher yet that i didn't like. For the most part like any activity there will be the 2%er that will break rules, cheat or other unethical behaviour but they are the exception not the rule. I would not be leary of taking my kids around group of geocachers like i would other groups. I would say that geocachers follow the three R's. Respect for themselves, respect for those around them and respect for the enviroment around them (city or trail). My Collins Gage Dictionary defines a sport as: 1. a game, contest or other pastime requiring skill and physical exertion 2. amusement or recreation Though i understand the thoughts about perceptions geocaching by definition is a game, amusement, pastime, recreation, that requires exertion, and various levels of skill. However the fact that this can be openly debated shows a level of respect and helps maintain Geocaching as an ethical sport/game.
  14. Our nearst Provincal Group Assoc. is 500 miles away. Our cache reviewer is some place in the states even further away. We have a local communittee of approximately 30 cachers. Most of our active cachers are shift workers and fit caching in around work and famillies. Of this group i have only ever seen a couple of these on the forums. I once read the statistic that less than 10 percent of cachers visit the forums. (one of the Moderators would know better) Finally some people still only have dial up for the internet assess. Digatizing pictures and time on the forums is an added expense that some people cannot afford. You also assume that even if they have the equipment they would have the know how. This is just not true. Just look at some of the questions asked on the forums and you would recognize this. Don't start limiting this by your middle class personal beliefs. If we don't cache your way you wont let us play. Play it my way or go home type mentallit shows a high level intolerance.
  15. Well, whoever put it in there is wrong. This is nothing but a game. A very fun game I might add. What is baseball, basketball, football, are just games and usually with poor role models. There is a level of physical activitie to Geocaching. Maybe its comparable to speed walking which is an Olymic event. Geocaching is played at all levels. Some climb mountians or hike for miles and others take casual walks from the car to the lamp post. No different from Professional Hockey verses a Gentlemans division. And living across from a golf course i can tell you that Really bad golfers ( attested to by the 2 gallons of golf ball i get off my front lawn each year)can be very competitive. An ethical standard is set by the majority, and a percieved standard whether written or just implied is as binding on the majority as if it was written in a rule book. Guidelines are rules. Just try to get a cache published that does not meet the guidelines. The only difference is we have referees in the form of cache reviewers that will bend the rules on occasion. The forums are actually the moral compass of this sport. Here everyone has a chance to give an opionon or state there beliefs, but even in the forums there are rules and people have lost fourm access for breaking the rules the Priest sorry moderators establish.
  16. Our nearst Geocaching Organization is 500 miles away. What do you do with an area that has no caches but some one discovers the sport and puts in the first cache hide in for the area. There are areas that don't have 20 or 30 caches within a 100 mile radius, so are you saying that only people in major communitees can only plant caches? I have to drive anywhere from 60 to 150 miles to get new caches at this point.
  17. My question is GC broken. Why are we trying to fix what aint broke. It has worked for what 5 years now and by the profiles of some people its worked quit well. If this system is an add on not a replacement i can not see a problem with the Netflix type system. Maybe this could be a premium member feature. Just one more tool in the box so to speak. What you folks forget is that an ammo box under 6 feet of snow is no fun for most people too. So is there going to be a seasonal adjustment to the rating system.
  18. I have noticed on different peoples profile that they have maps of Canada and The States With the states or provinces shaded to show where they have found caches. Where can a person get these maps.
  19. Tim Hortons in like a Starbucks only better coffee. Once owned by Wendys but spun back off as an independate coffee company. Oh yeah they sell donuts too.
  20. Has anyone ever done a clue game as part of a caching event. If they have, do they know of the listing or how to set this type of game up. I think it would be a great way to have some fun. It would be a great way to get my kids involved more often also.
  21. In Canada you can try GPSCentral.ca or GPSCity.ca
  22. Trading is the only reason my wife and kids want to go with me. I save the virtuals or micros for when they are not with me. I usually have a good stock of dollar store items with me so that when the kids want something i can trade across or up.
