  1. actually the 3g phones native language requirement for the browsers is XHTML basic, which is just a version of HTML that has a few less tags, and MUST follow strict standards instead of being allowed to be loose like html. WAP is a secondary function of the browsers If pages are written correctly, you can even visit html pages.
  2. Time to bring up this bane of my existance yet again... Was in a town doing something totally unrelated to geocaching, but did have my GPS for navigation. Had some time to kill so I thought to go looking for a few local caches. The first one I went to, had a big ole sign saying how "this fountain is what the city was built around" and since I didn't see any places to hide a cache (meaning... parkinglot, sign, and wall were all that was available) I figured it was a Virtual Cache. When I got home, I found out that it was a Micro Cache... so naturally this whole naming concept entered my mind once again. Understanding that past caches may be difficult to change, why is changing future cache names to be VCxxxx (virtual) MCxxxx (micro) GCxxxx (regular/anything else) such a bad thing? Won't this help people to know what they are looking for?
  3. I REALLY wisth they would upgrade their wireless content to have some decent information. I was recently in a city seeing a specific site, and thought to hit a few geocaches around the area (had loaded several hundred caches in the area). Went to the first one, and there were no obvious places to hide a cache, and there was a big ole sign saying "this fountain is how this city started".. yadda yadda yadda. So I figured it must be a virtual cache. Come to find out, it was a MICROcache. 2 things I would have liked in this situation... 1- The ability to enter in the cache number/code/thing into the wireless site instead of the state/zipcode since I knew exactly what I wanted, and didn't know the zipcode. 2 - Some description/details of the cache that would actually be helpful. It appears the current version is built just for locating caches, not for getting info on ones you already know exist. With wireless phones growing in popularity (Sprint just signed their 1 Millionth Vision user), I would think this would be a worthy addition to the site.
  4. Didn't know about that... and tis definately nice! But still would like more info to be available. That doesn't tell me much more then what I already have in my GPS. Would like to see the description, hints, last time it was found, and all that other good stuff. If it can be squeezed into that page...then great! But other then that, the Name and Stashed Date doesn't really help me much as extra info when I'm stuck on a cache. But do appreciate the link
  5. I did a search, but didn't see any recent discussions on this... so forgive me if this has been discussed before. With the recent launch of several Cell Phone carriers having wireless internet access (more then simple WAP that is), I was curious if there was any plan to get a wireless version of the site? With the ability to use a simple form of HTML (XHTML Basic) the site could be accessible to phone users so they can look up info, post finds or whatever. This could be in full color, and even with maps as well. I have my own set of sites that I was just about to make a wireless version of, but when I polled my users it seemed that no one would be interested in it. Naturally I wouldn't want the staff here to go through needless work if no one was interested. So are there many geocachers who would be interested in this type of access? In reality it's not that big of a project, since all the database structure and data exists, only a few new templates would need to be made to access the data in a simpler way to fit onto the mini screens. I may actually do it on my sites, just for the fun of it... but would love to see it done here as well. Anyway... just tossing out the question to see what the response is like. Look forward to seeing some thoughts
  6. A friend and I both have the etrex Legend. We recently took a trip and had both units side by side. My friends would get pegged at 6-7 feet of accuracy (with waas on), but mine would never get below 14 (also waas enabled). Any thought as to why there would be such a difference? Our elevation was regularly 30-50 feet different, but our speeed would be exactly the same. Just got off with a guy at garmin and he didn't have any answers for me other then "different conditions, yadda, yadda". But being right next to eachother the condiditions thing doesn't fly with me. Any ideas?
  7. I knew that this topic was discussed before... Just wanted to bring it back up that this would be a great idea. I totally hate dropping by a cache I happen to be passing by and looking for 20 minutes and leaving in despair, only to get back to my computer and find that it was a Virtual cache. I don't want to have to go through all 100+ caches I download or whatever and check each one to see if it's Virtual or Mirco or other. The VC, MC or whatever would be a much easier way to diferentiate what it what. Add a vote to the list to change the prefix!!
  8. Adding my .02 to the list - Link the name of the cache instead of using a "details" link. I always go to click the title (like I'm used to on Message Boards and such) and have to remind myself to use the details link. - Ability to show more then just 25 caches per page (dropdown selectable?) - Link name of user to profile, wherever it may show up. This is currently done in the logs, but not on a search results page, and then at the top of the Cache page, there is a seperate "[profile]" link. It should just be a given accross the site that a linked name goes to a profile. - an "X number of people have found this cache" statement. I think that was mentioned above, but wanted to add my vote.
