  1. THis is pretty much what I was thinking; Historic Routes would be a sub of Things; and would contain managed categories itself; for the Santa Fe trail, Route 66, Erie Canal, Knox Trail, etc; each of which would be seperately managed and contain the actual waymarks.
  2. My original motivation was to have a category for the Knox Trail (a set of markers in New York and Massachusetts that note the route taken by Gen'l Knox to deliver cannon from Fort Ticonderoga to Boston in the Revolutionary War). I looked at "things -> historic markers" and see that there are a number of per-state sub categories which is all good and well. However, what I was looking for was a category that was for both intra as well as inter-state historic routes. Also, the routes in question may not have markers, so it doesn't seem to me that that this category would be correct. Looking closer, I see that there are others proposing similar categories: Santa Fe trail and Oregon Trail to name a couple. I could easily see someone wanting to have a Route 66 category, or keeping with the New York theme; the Erie Canal route. On the flip side, there is a Lincoln Highway category under Things -> Signs; but again, I wouldn't expect a historic route to necessarilly have markers/signs; the original bed of the Erie Canal doesn't. Based on this, I propose a Things -> Historic Routes category, where subcategories such as the Santa Fe and Oregon trail's as well as the aforementioned Knox Trail could be hosted. Who knows; maybe even Route 66 one day. Individual waymarks could then be added to the sub-categories and allow people to visit specific waymarks or navigate an entire route, should they chose to do so. Comments? Thanks for listening! Otto
  3. I'm wondering if the hierarchy shouldn't be Routes > Historic Routes > Chicago Road With Routes as a root (pun somewhat intended) of the tree, in addition to Historic Routes, subcats could include Scenic Routes, Old Railbeds, Route66, etc etc... My thought is that a route is not a place. A route also allows someone to set up their GPS with all the waymarks for the route and have fun navigating the route. Individual waymarks would then conform to the 'wow' factor for the subcat. Ffor Scenic Routes, a waymark could be a vista, for example. For Historic routes, a plaque or marker. Anyway, a thought. 4. How would I go about cross-referencing waymarks? IE, a waymark that fits two or more (sub)categories? Can I provide multiple categories when creating a waymark? Is this functionality that's intended to be supported? - Otto
  5. I've been itching for something similar; but have a site that would actually be a string of sites that are related to each other that crosses state boundaries. How would this subcategory(ies) work for such? I had wanted to start someone at the first site, and have them decode something to find the location for the second, and so on; until the last site (in a different state). Thoughts? Also, can one assign multiple categories to waymarks? IE, the above might fit both historic and puzzle categories. Otto
  6. Hmmm... I'm not able to cusrsor over the 'mi' in the distance item of the 'Project Waypoint' screen. When I save the projected waypoint, the units show up in whatever I've set up via Setup->Units->Distance. The unit has v3.70 for firmware, so I should be up2date, right?
  7. Hi All, Sorry if this has been asked before; I searched and didn't see anything obvious. I'm trying to project a waypoint on a Garmin Legend. I can create the waypoint OK; but the only option for distance units is miles. Can it be changed to feet? If so, how? I don't see anything in the manual that implies it can be. TIA, Otto
