  1. Be prepared to find that some folks that produce coins don't wish to release that information. Going through the geocoin database software I have, I didn't find any mint numbers for any of the coins you have requested.
  2. There is also an application you can load that will allow you to save files to the iphone/touch through the WiFi connection. It will recognize and display several formats such as PDF's and excel documents. Geolobo has the geocoin database program where you can list the coins in your collection. I wonder what it would take to have it output a iphone/touch friendly pdf file. On the other hand, I have a webpage were I have my entire trackable collection listed. I burn it to small business card CD's and hand them out for people to use for discovering my collection. I have the file on my ipod touch, since it's easier to lug around than my entire coin collection. The page on CD makes it easy for someone to log discoveries on my collection by linking directly to the log page for each coin. For now the page only has the icons associated with the coins. I may eventually upgrade it to also show the coin images, once I have pictures of every coin in my collection. Again, this would be something that the geocoin database would probably make an easy task of.
  3. I like to consider the FISUR list to be my one stop list of the true "VHTF" coins. I'd be happy to meet any Geocoin collector who doesn't consider any pioneer coin a true geocoin... and I'll be happy to trade them for trackable coins to alleviate them of their misery of possessing those coins.
  4. I have a first generation Touch. With the most recent update to the geocaching app, it works... barely. The touch doesn't have a GPS, but it can use the WiFi to pull approximate coordinates. I haven't experimented with the location finding while not connected to an access point, but unless you are logged in, you won't be able to pull any data. So, if you can find an open access point near where you're caching, the Touch will pull the cache pages you need.
  5. There is a company in Europe that is selling GPS units with a geocaching.com tracking number... making the unit a travelbug.
  6. Not sure how to answer.... My coin collection was there, and I kept getting phone calls from there... and I hear a rumor that my name was signed in a few places.
  7. Brian Cramp - My team mate "Brian" - Team A.I. used to cramp my geocaching style all the time. I'm glad he's a couple of hunderd miles away so he can't cramp my style as much any more. There are a whole mess of criteria when you are creating your query to check off to narrow down the types of caches you want it to retrieve. This includes cache type and difficulty/terrain levels. You can even include the size of the cache container among a number of other settings. Under your Account Details page on the right hand side there is a link for "Build Pocket Queries", under Premium Features. You can also use the Advanced Search feature under the Hide & Seek a Cache menu on the left hand side, but it lacks any serious definitions beyond the most rudimentary criteria.
  8. There once was a cacher from Killdare, Who's logs were known to have flair, He wrote in that style, That made it worth while, "The log lengths show how much I care." Joe is a cacher with class who's alergies included grass In a suit of latex He gave it his best but it always rode up his a**.
  9. Krispy Kreme SWAG I had a root canal on wednesday that kept me from getting in line to get in on this.
  10. The previous KK franchise company in the Phoenix area did itself in with some really bad management choices. This is an entirely new franchise management company. I actually have Thursday morning off, so I guess I have somewhere to be early Thursday morning.
  11. It could be he is logging them in the similar thought that some people's personal coins they activated but don't adopt out. This is his way of adding an electronic marker to the coin. If that's the case, that should have been stipulated in the website advertising the sale of the coin. Then you would know what to expect once the coin was activated.... that they would be posting a log. If the coin did pass through his hands as part of the sale, its a pretty big stretch, but it wouldn't be a virtual find. I realize that this is not the exact scenario that has taken place... just a jog down a similar ethical train of thought.
  12. More than anything else, I'd like to be able to view a cache map on my touch's google maps application. it's a pain in the "you know what" to scroll around using the buttons in the top left corner.
  13. I never had a problem with http://gpsnow.com/, but I know someone that did. They were purchasing a couple of units for school and were wanting to get 5 Yellow Etrex units and 2 GPS60csx units. They placed the order before the semester started in January, but the units didn't arrive until early April. The problem was they would wait for the entire order to be available in inventory before shipping. They would not "hold" any of the units in inventory to wait for the order to be complete. This meant that they wouldn't ship unless their inventory completely matched that all the units were available at once.... without placing any holds on the inventory to complete the order. So, if you're planning on ordering one unit, you probably don't have much to worry about. I've ordered from them twice and received my order very quickly. But I was only ordering one unit at a time.
  14. There's Phoenix, home to the South Mountain Park: The World's Largest City Park. And what city park would be complete without a few geocaches... almost 90 of them. East side of South Mountain Park and surrounding area If that's not enough, there's the show in the sky every evening at dusk.... and sometimes there's an encore later Besides, it's not like we're asking you to come to Phoenix in June, July, or August!!
  15. I got to do some thinking the other night about emailing the cache descriptions to an email account that I could view on my touch. I hadn't seen the posts here about doing such a thing, until I came back to the forums to find if someone had created a tool that would make shorter work of this task. What I did was... First I created a specific Gmail account that I would use solely for this purpose. Second, I copied the waypoint name and cache name as the Subject of each message. Then "pasted" the description of the cache along with the decrypted hint (if applicable). Since I was loading about 30 caches, I also included a screen captured map showing the locations of the caches. as the last message. the image was easily accessible and could be zoomed into. (It wasn't interactive since it was simply a screencap though.) We were going after a cluster of caches in a 4 square mile area. the cache names weren't labeled, but the waypoints on our gps's made it short guess work. This was a bit time consuming to get the information loaded, but turned out to be a very helpful method. It would be kinda nice to see a feature for simply bundling the information and sending each cache as a separate email to a specified email address. As a side note, you can adjust the number of default messages that are stored locally as the 25, 50, 75, 100, or 200 most recent messages.
  16. I like the Utah, Dallas, and possibly Vegas... Arizona would be AWESOME!
  17. There are coins considered offensive by others, and there are coins that have no relevant association with geocaching. Either way, if you pay the fees and don't upset TPTB, you'll get a trackable coin/icon. So, should there be standards?... why start now?!? A geocoin standards committee probably isn't really in the best business interest of Groundspeak. The tracking numbers are a revenue generating machine, and a committee chucks a monkey wrench into the gears. Groundspeak will permit and deny what it sees fit, so that it doesn't interfere with it's business model. Groundspeak will (hopefully) act in a manner that is best for their business by disallowing anything they feel is contrary to them promoting a family friendly atmosphere. As for being offended/not being offended theme. Everyone has the right to offend anyone. It's simply a matter of character. The only true way to show your disdain for any particular coin is to not include it in your collection. That is really the only aspect of the geocoin hobby that you have ultimate control over. You can post your complaints all you like, but everyone else is entitled to behave or believe in any way they desire.
  18. Jailbreaking will void your warranty. However, once the Touch is "jailbroken" there are a couple of ways to load the information. Tools for uploading various file formats are available. I can paste the text directly into notepad. One of the tools creates a web interface to upload to the touch's notepad. (Uploading to the notepad is a function that should have been included when they released the application back in January.)
  19. While it doesn't have 229 now that LOOK AT ME!!! does... The O.C.B. only has 54 watching it. But it does have way more discoveries.
  20. I have a couple of white jeeps (minus travelbugs) sitting on my desk. I found them for sale at Walmart back when the white jeeps were being distributed. Let me know if you want one. I modified one that has a cover on the back to house the battery pack I installed to make the lights turn on with LED's tucked inside it. I made the cover out of crafting foam. I'll see if I can dig up some old pictures I took of it.
  21. My teammate and I stumbled across one of these back in the summer of 2002. I found where I could buy some for myself, and the rest is geocoin obsession history.
  22. Thanks to Ebay and disposable income, you can collect all the coins though... (at least we hope the income is disposable.)
  23. I tried cachemagnet and GSAK. I prefer GSAK as it doesn't split the logs and the description and the hint into 3 separate files. On the ipod, there is a limit to how many files you can load, and 3 files per cache is a waste. I'm still working on a way to port the info into my ipod touch. I got both programs to work on my nano. There is a project that is working on the iphone/ipod touch... but it's not very useful on the touch unless you're constantly near an open wireless access point. The kicker is that Apple may have recently added a notepad function to the touch, but you can't enter data into it except by typing it in to the device manually. (There are exceptions to that last statement, but they void the warranty.)
  24. Unless they signed a logbook I don't see how they could claim the find?!?!
