  1. Would anyone be interested in coming to an event in southern Ohio, loosely styled after Alien Encounter, with a magical theme? I would try to give good prizes, a meal at the end, and maybe mint a coin that could only be gotten at the event?
  2. I want to host an event next spring with a magical theme. Participants would receive a map and have to go to a number of different caches, collecting "spells" or ingredients for a potion or something similar. At the end of the day, all would meet up somewhere for food. Of course, I have many more ideas to work into this theme, but that's the basic idea. Our area isn't very heavily populated, but is within 2 hours of 3 major cities with numerous cachers. Would anyone come to southern Ohio for this? I foresee a game along the lines of Alien Encounter with decent prizes donated and maybe even minting a coin that would not be available without coming to the event.
  3. That happened to us once. We never did find the cache we were looking for, but I spent a lot of time letterboxing after that.
  4. I'm going out hunting this week! It took me all weekend to find the camera!! now we assume it and the GPS will agree to work at the same time and I'm in business!
  5. I will have my second edition and my husband's first edition wooden nickels ready in a couple of weeks. Anyone interested? Mine will feature a Clydesdale and my husband's (Wafflesdad) will feature his Belgian filly, Waffle. Yes, her name is Belgian Waffle. My horse's name is Bonnie the Clyde. I know....groan.....
  6. I need someone to do the graphic work for my 2006 wooden nickel. I know exactly what I want, but am technically challenged and can't seem to do it myself. I actually want two designs. The first is a Clydesdale trotting toward the viewer on the front, trotting away from the viewer on the back. On the front, across the top, I want "Maggieszoo", across the bottom "Waverly Ohio". On the back across the top "Caching With Horsepower". Across the bottom "2006". The second design should be a Belgian foal with "Wafflesdad" on the top front and all the same stuff everywhere else. I'm kind of open on ideas for this one. Waffles is our Belgian filly. I can email photos of our Belgian and Clydesdales if anyone wants them. Of course, I'm not a great photographer, either.... Designs need to be in MS Word or something I can open with MS Office (no adobe please) and something that will shrink down to fit on a 1" diameter sticker and still look nice. I will give the winner of the best design for each a handful of nickels and their choice of one of the coins I have available for trades at the time I pick the winner. Ummm.....let's say a deadline of December 2nd?
  7. I'm sitting here looking at my coin and it looks just like that. It is just a bit smaller than an actual benchmark. Could pass for the real thing, otherwise.
  8. Hrm...how many caches was that? We may have to try the Perry County challenge this winter! Mr. BBD originally is from Frazeysburg...you're probably the only person here who knows where that is. Hmmmmm. OK, BBD, Wafflesdad and I can cache all of Perry County before you can!!
  9. Missed this one, but caught an episode of top ten something-or-other on the Travel Channel. They 10 best hidden treasures. It included some shipwrecks, some legendary pirate treasure, the gold that is still in California and a public diamond mine in Arkansas. And geocaching was #7! It was a nice segment, but kept saying that it was in Washington, even after saying that there were cache hides all over the world.
  10. Mrs. G. (remember me? I sat with you guys at the women's event) I feel your pain. I live in Pike County, Ohio. Not many cachers in these parts. Thank goodness several in adjoining counties are prolific and inspired hiders. You had mentioned at the event that you were thinking of hosting an event and did I have any ideas. Here's one. Publicize heavily in the area. Put an article in the local paper and on the radio. Offer to match up newbies that don't have their own GPS with folks that have a few finds under their belt. This may help light a fire in some fresh blood. Give pre-stocked caches as door prizes. You may see if the local hunting/sporting goods store will sponsor the event and donate a GPS to give as a prize. Just some thoughts. Oh, and let me know when you do your event. I'm there! And don't worry about other people. The only person you can control is you. Enjoy what you can and don't sweat the small stuff.
  11. So sorry about your dog. I can't count how many dogs, cats, horses, and rabbits who have gone. All of our dogs are rescues, most of the cats, and a couple of the horses. Anybody need a couple of nice chow-mix puppies? Regards, Maggie (human), Sadie, Sam, Sasha the 3-legged Wonderdog, Katie, Cassie, Paco, and Coma the dogs, Fluff, Kitty Marie, Trouble, Olive, Danni, Harri, and Jessicat the cats, Bonnie the Clyde, Bud Light, Belgian Waffle, Shadow, Jazzy, and Lucky the horses. Oh, and Finley the Betta and Flippo the Clown Plecostamus.
  12. I have been LTF a couple of times. Once, I was seen and the muggle children wrecked it. The second one, the owner couldn't find it the day after I logged my find and archived it! I went back and it was still there, so I took it home and emailed the owner, but have yet to hear back. I have since placed my own cache near that spot.
  13. How 'bout those big cat litter buckets? We have cats, so I've always got a couple of them around. They seem like they'd hold up pretty well. And they would hold so much swag!
  14. Gotta have one of these! One of our best vacations was geocaching in Nevada. I even got the start of my rubber lizard collection from a cache in Red Rock Canyon. It has "OU8ALIZZARD" on its belly! If any of you are ever in northern NV, take the time to do Humboldt View in Winnemucca. It looks daunting, but we did it in a rental car with no problems.
  15. Two bronze Mt McKinley and 3 bronze Swags and a silver Swags!!!
  16. If you have slots for non-vets, count me in. I am a VA nurse and have been caring for vets on an acute psychiatry floor for 14 years. My dad was army and a nursing assistant here and met my mom at this VA. Veterans Affairs Medical Center--the price of freedom is visible here "To care for he who hath born the battle, and his widow, and his orphan"--Abraham Lincoln
  17. I'm in! So much for sleeping this month.....I work night shift.
  18. Am I too late? If not I'd like two, then I'd like to trade my wooden nickels for a poker chip.
  19. Can I get screwed twice? Left or right-handed doesn't matter to me. If you are getting any screws at all, it's good!
  20. I'd love to trade three of my wooden coins featuring our Belgian mare (sadly deceased) for three of your coins.
  21. Swantown, Welcome aboard! Geocaching can be a serious addiction. You are probably on the right track to take it slow! I had never seen an agatee before. Cute little critters......
  22. Tabasco works well and very quickly. I don't think it would hurt the coloring, as long as you didn't leave it on long.
  23. You are thinking of Idaho. They already have a coin Oh right, Iowa has buckeyes. Naw! Iowa has hawkeyes, Ohio has buckeyes.
  24. paypalling for 2. Cool coin! I wish I could pick them up in person....I loved driving through NM.
