  1. The only thing I would add is anti bacterial hand wash. I'm not afraid to get dirty, but I don't like the thought of eating some of the ick that we get into.
  2. You may regret your offer!! I could use help finding someone to make wands (12-16"?) and/or broomsticks (small ones--like doll-sized). I think everything else I can get from Oriental Trading Company or make myself. The dragon eggs will be Ukrainian pysanky eggs, which should be a nice keepsake of the event. I'm planning on at least one phase of the event be a CITO phase to help clean up a local fishing spot. Now that half of the local law enforcement community is caching, I should get plenty of support!! Maggie
  3. I have one of only 5 shiny silver Christmas Swags coins. A few other LE's, but nothing as rare as Swags "with visions of ammo cans dancing in his head".
  4. Sometimes I trade something I found into another cache, but mostly I pick up things I like. I have a collection of wooden nickels, one of foreign currency, and a really nice rubber lizard collection! My hubby collects firefighter figures and firetrucks that he finds. PS Love the tree!
  5. Just because you know where it is, doesn't mean you know where it is. I found my first cache without a GPS and spent quite a bit of time wandering around feeling stupid before I finally "got" the clue. I knew exactly where it was, but had a booger of a time finding it.Birds Eye View
  6. Yes, I had heard that the children's bodies had been found. Such a sad story. The dad got off easy, in my opinion.
  7. Don't feel bad. I stared at those stupid symbols and pondered the meaning of the morse code for two days. When I finally learned the secret I felt like jumping out of a palm tree!!
  8. Well, I was lucky to have an event near home a week ago and have all of my treasure map. Not that it does me any good. I stare and stare, but haven't got a clue as to how to solve the puzzle. I have all the morse code done, but now I'm stumped. Oh, well. It was fun playing.....
  9. It's at the benchmarking section of the forums. Check out the thread "the contest is afoot"! A benchmarking contest......how cool is that?
  10. Is this it. Oops! I really shouldn't try to communicate when I'm taking cold medicine!
  11. I had been playing the coin quest game and have recently started the benchmarking game, so I've been dreaming of benchmarks for the last few nights. Not very exciting until they grow to the size of elephants and come after you!!!
  12. I've always wanted to go to Boston.....hmmmm.....
  13. I've never been lost while caching. However, it would really be hard to be lost for any length of time in this area. Trekbabe is from just up the road and did the right thing--follow a stream until it crosses a road. Even though it seems you are deep in the wilderness, you are rarely ever more than a couple of miles from a road. Now, all that changes if you get hurt and can't self-rescue. Having said that, I have been in places other than where I needed to be while horseback riding. If I am riding from home, I trust the horse to know the way back to the barn. It is spooky. They never take the path I would take, but we always get home! When trailering to a state park, I'm not sure if they would go to the trailer or not. The way they act when we approach camp, I think they would, but wouldn't want to test this theory. That's why I usually carry a pretty extensive kit when riding in strange territory.
  14. This one is in Red Rock Canyon, outside of Las Vegas.
  15. Since I posted the above, my caches have been found by at least two deputies, one firefighter, and the county clerk of courts! So much for being the only cacher in the county! Of course, they may put out their own hides and I won't have to drive 30+ miles to get to a cache I haven't found....
  16. As long as it said in the cache description that special equipment was required and the terrain rating reflected it, I don't see a problem with it. It would &!$$ me off to hike any kind of distance out into the middle of nowhere only to find that I didn't have the necessary equipment to retrieve the cache.
  17. I have no idea how much I've spent. Don't want to know. I've had to cut back and now only buy an occasional coin that I really like, plus I'm in 3 clubs, so I do trade some. I'm currently working on a personal coin through the Caching Place, so I'll have more to trade and leave in caches. That and maybe I can get a Moun10Bike this way! I think I'm up to around 60 or so keepers plus another 25 or so to trade. Wooden nickels and poker chips are another matter altogether! I can afford lots of those!!
  18. I did get a silver one and thought it was awesome! If you do a gold one (yes vote for blue eyes), make it shiny and best leave TWO in Ohio! I just loved the shiny finish of the silver one.
  19. Congrats! You might want to look at the current benchmarking contest. See how many different types of benchmarks you can find by January 2nd. Winner gets either their GSAK paid for or their premium membership paid for. There aren't many playing, yet.
  20. Thanks! You may be sorry you offered...... Oh, off-topic warning: I used one of your caches for a requirement in the coin quest! I needed a cache for or placed by a little girl!
  21. Sounds cool! Give us dates ASAP so I can request vacation time. Do there have to be four on a team? Our Jeep only holds two!
  22. So what's the score? Did I win? Just kidding..... maggieszoo--head too stuffy to hunt today :-(
  23. I got an interesting phone call this am and just gotta tell you! The Pike County (Ohio) Sheriff himself called me. Seems someone made an anonymous call about "suspicious activity" in a local cemetery. They thought someone was hiding drugs under a tree. The sheriff found the cache and took it back to the office to investigate. He put on gloves and a mask and very carefully opened the container. Then got confused! He followed the direction inside to go to www.geocaching.com and found me on the profile page and recognized me (local fire department member), so I got a phone call. He's hooked! We won't get a minute of work out of him ever again......but I bet I don't get any more phone calls!
  24. Here are the results for this morning's hunting: JY1230=I=Metal Rod JY0461=Q=Chiseled Square JY0463=DD=Survey Disk Tomorrow....who knows what I'll find?!
  25. OK. Went out this morning after work and found 3 different types in downtown Chillicothe Ohio. I'll have them logged on GC.com in a few minutes. Where do I log for the contest? I thought I saved the link, but now I can't find it. I think you are right. This is pretty addicting. I thought geocaching was cool, but this doesn't require stealth! Of course, I do miss getting the good stuff from caches. I have a really nice rubber lizard collection! Edit: Never mind....found it!!!
