  1. You could change it to 'Short Bus' and still retain the theme ... My husband calls it the Mr. Dee Dee bus. I don't know what I'd change mine to. My current name fits so well with our 7 dogs, 7 cats, 6 horses, and 2 fish. At some point all but 5 of the horses have lived in the house, too. And we used to have 2 dwarf rabbits inside, too. Will Cache 4 Pet Fud
  2. Well, I am not embarrassed to say that I had the BEST Christmas EVER!!! I got a new GPS. a Garmin GPS 60. My hubby got a Foretrex 201. I also got a new sewing machine with auto buttonholer and a new serger. I know, not geocaching related, but I make costumes for sidesaddle horse riders to make extra gas $$ so I can afford to go caching. So its sort of related. I also got myself a couple of geocoins. Hubby got me two collectible coins from Washington DC. Not gc's, but very nice. I also got two pairs of riding pants, so I can do some horseback caching and cache placing. Hubby and I both got new saddle blankets (matching ) so we can look nice, too. Now, if I didn't have to work this week so we could go caching!!!
  3. OK, so no one caches with a cat. But how many of you have cats that 'help' you log your finds at the end of the day? I have one keeping the printer from escaping, one trying to 'hatch' the mouse, one on my lap, and one chasing the pointer across the screen! They are much more involved with our caching than the dog that gets to go every once in awhile. Not to mention sleeping in the caching bag with all the swag! Wouldn't want those TB's to get cold, now. Yup. I'm in for a couple!
  4. I think the coupon idea would work. I was afraid to try to pre-sell coins (I'm terrible with money), but still wanted my own coin, so I am going through The Caching Place to get my coins minted. I am only out as much $$ as I want to spend. They handle orders and shipping to anyone who wants to buy a coin. They are also doing the artwork, which I'm sure will look great once I get my photos sent to them! (It's coming, Georgia, I promise!!)
  5. I love it!! If you don't mind, I'm gonna do that to my husband for his new GPS on Christmas morning. I have an ammo can in the back seat of my truck just waiting. And we have 11 acres to hide on! Hmm...I wonder if he'd notice a film canister taped to his horse?
  6. I have a Garmin Geko 101. It is not computer compatible, but I just make sure to punch in the coords for the next cache BEFORE I start driving to the next one. It's pretty accurate and all I've ever really needed, although the computer download function of my hubby's Garmin GPS72 is really handy. He's completely paperless.
  7. It also takes awhile to find your "caching hat" and learn to pick out the things that don't belong. Like a pile of neatly stacked sticks or rocks, or the camo'ed magnetic hide a key. For a cheaper GPSr, try the garage sale here in the forums, or try ebay. Refurbs are usually just as good as a new unit for much less $$, just no warranty. I got my Geko 101 from Radio Shack on sale for $79 and got a 1-year warranty with it through Radio Shack. I kind of wish I had held out for a 201 so I could have gotten computer hookup stuff with it, but there was this White Jeep TB near here and hubby had the GPS and........
  8. My Cloo game is just about ready to go online. Thanks Sir Gerald! My cloos will all be in existing caches, so no new spots needed. Also, that is fewer spots to maintain. I will have a small cache with worksheets in it if someone wants them at the starting point, or they can print out the waypoints and just head out. The final code word gets you coords to a final cache that will have some great stuff, including a First To Find coin. Cloos are spread out across Pike County Ohio. Maybe 20+ miles between the farthest apart? I don't expect to get many that finish this one, but the ones that do should have a good time. All that's left to do is hike my sorry butt out through the snow and put the washers in the caches. Oh, and all of my suspects are local cachers!
  9. We live in the middle of nowhere. We can hear the neighbors, but not see them, and only the ones across the creek can see the cache from their yard. Cachers are welcome at our house, if we aren't out caching! We DO keep marshmallows and the house is clean on Mondays (housekeeper comes on Mondays!).
  10. I went to this year's Alien Encounter and had such a great time that I wanted to do something along those lines for our part of the state. We don't have as many great parks as Cleveland area does, so our event will be more spread out and require more driving, but since it is mostly rural here, actual driving time won't be much different, just more miles. But the scenery is pretty here, so I don't think you'll mind. Wafflesdad and I spent most of lunch discussing just how it is going to work. There are some businesses that I think will get involved, so that will add to the fun. Not to mention the entire law enforcement/emergency services community here is now caching, so don't be surprised if you get pulled over by someone who is on duty to give their off-duty comrades a leg-up on you! Hmmmm.....that gives me an idea.....
  11. Why didn't I think of that?? What a cool idea!! I got my hubby a new GPS for Christmas (thank goodness he doesn't read the forums) and that would be a great way to give it to him.
  12. We have one next to our mailbox. So far, no problems. I kind of enjoy watching folks walking up and down the road staring at their GPS and trying not to look obvious. Of course all of our dogs are 'helping' them. And the horses come up to the fence demanding attention. Of course, the first finder on that one knocked on the door to introduce himself. Now, normally we're both up at that time of morning, but on our days off, we're lucky to be out of bed by the crack of noon....caused some scrambling for clothes....
  13. Dead microwaves are good for a pair of magnets that will hold anything--large ring magnets about 2" across, if memory serves correctly. I've also been pretty happy with the magnets that Hobby Lobby carries. They are small, but stout. Two of them stacked together will hold an M&M minis container against a metal surface that isn't flat.
  14. Oh, wow....that would be pretty cool. The mileage thing, though. Hmmmm....
  15. Another option is to leave your calling card with instructions to contact you (through GC?) and you can mail the item. Could get into some money, but if your item is small and lightweight, shipping is less than $1. And you could be picky about which caches you leave your card in--only tough ones, or whatever. Might make some new friends that way, too.
  16. I like multis. I like puzzles. It's just that they do take longer and involve advanced planning. If I happen to be in an area and have a few minutes, I'll stop and grab a cache. I usually don't have time for it to be a multi, and many puzzle caches require "homework" before attempting. Keep 'em coming. At least they aren't micros!!
  17. I'm curious about having a coin to use to log mileage, too. I have one that I use. It's logs are sort of a journal where I make notes not only about the caches that we visit, but the weather that day, where we stopped to eat, who we may have run into and that sort of thing. I'd hate to have that option taken away. And why would anyone log a cache they didn't find? Sorry, couldn't resist...resist....resist.....
  18. I like the idea of engraving your name on the coin. I have a little battery powered engraver that would work. Hmmmm.....I think I've got a red-handed coin that would just fit in a new Cloo cache.....
  19. Progressing pretty well! The date will be June 10, 2006. I don't have a name, yet, though. What do y'all think? Harry Potter's Hogwarts Holiday? or Maggieszoo's Magical Mystery Tour? Does everyone like chocolate frogs?
  20. We have a date for the event, but not a name, yet. I'm thinking either Harry Potter's Hogwarts Holiday or Maggieszoo's Magical Mystery Tour. Whatever the name, the date will be June 10, 2006 in Waverly Ohio. Watch for a cache page.
  21. That makes perfect sense. Just the sort of thing I was thinking! Next stop, Hobby Lobby!!!
  22. Waverly. Pike County. Just south of Chillicothe. I'm looking at sometime in June, maybe. Yep. Harry Potter, Hogwarts, and all that. You don't have to have read the books or seen the movie to play, but it might help (!?). If this goes over, maybe Narnia next year?
  23. I like the idea of a cache at the end with a prize in it. I also like the idea of a cache full of worksheets to get started. I think I'll do both. Could I place the washers in caches I already have hidden? That would save me some work. Can more than one washer be in one place? Like one suspect, one weapon, and one place? Or would there need to be 18 caches?
