  1. What is the walk like from the APE cache to the bottom parking area? I ask because my mom is determined to come with me because she's afraid I'll get raped and murdered. FYI she would be a lot of help--she's 61. I'm 40. I would consider it flattery if there were an attempt! At any rate, I'm sure she can do the Iron Horse trailhead to the cache, but it's the trip back that has me worried. I know it probably isn't too bad, but I'll have to listen to her whine. Actually, you'll ALL have to listen to her whine! If the hike from the cache to the other trailhead isn't too bad, maybe we can hitch a ride from there back to our car or we can leave our car there and shuttle someone else to the Iron Horse trailhead?
  2. Yep. Many events have had coin sales/trading going on. Some events even set aside space for it, like at the Midwest Geobash.
  3. Our group doesn't have its own website, but we do have a tiny little corner of the forums at www.cogeocaching.org. Oh, our name is Scioto Watershed Area Geocachers. We get together once in awhile to eat and swap stories.
  4. Hmmm....I check the COG site pretty much every night and must have missed your post. Welcome to the insanity. I'm in southern Ohio. Where ya hail from?
  5. I know I'm jumping in late, but I would love to come along. I'll be in the Seattle area that day, anyway. I just hope Mom can live without me shopping with her for the day or come with me without whining. I'll most likely be walking. I thought about finding a pawn shop and getting a cheap bike and then selling it back to them afterwards. It would probably cost about the same in the long run as a rental.
  6. Oh, barf. Once again, one of us will have to work that weekend, so we can't go. Maybe next year. Sigh.
  7. I'm sitting here working on the adoption stuff. I spent much of the afternoon watching Bonnie and her son and her harness mate galloping through the snow, so I didn't get much done!
  8. Hey moderator! How do I move this to the Midwest forum? Of course, the park we are thinking of is near Kentucky, so it would fit there, too. Help?
  9. Thanks. Everything that is paid went out this am. I remembered to put delivery confirmation on this batch. Yes, Bonnie is doing well. Now we are playing the "see how many ways we can spit out a pill" game. Did you know Clydesdales have little mustaches? They do. I have often wondered what they are for and have discovered that they are a genetic mutation enabling a horse to flick pills great distances using only the hairs of the mustache. I wonder if Wafflesdad would notice if I used his new electric razor on Bonnie?
  10. The first batch got mailed on friday. Our tiny little post office will only let you mail 6 packages at a time, then you have to go to the back of the line, so be patient. I got packages mailed to: Ewa Beach HI, Marietta GA, Alberquickie NM, Sacramento CA, Fayetteville GA, and Canada (Whitebear). The rest that have paid will go out this am, unless I get stuck over at work. The only payments or confirmation of sale I'm waiting on are: Alice Band, KCOGRN, and WijDrie. Thanks everyone!
  11. I think the computer at work has been eating emails. I have been very careful to make sure I answer every message. I hate technology....except gps anyway! Groundspeak number! Aha!! Didn't think of that. Now I have a project for at work tonight. First batch of coins went out this am. I'll try to get the rest packed and sent tomorrow. Also have to ship four sidesaddles and a riding habit!
  12. I'll have to get pics of our '99 Wrangler. It is red, all stock, except for the cloth top. The original had a tree go through it on Christmas Day the year of the ice storm in Ohio (04?), so we replaced it with a half top and tonneau cover. It's easier to heat, but less cargo storage, and you have to remember to put the cover over it if it is going to rain or the rain runs in over the edge of the tonneau where it meets the back window. Bolas Heathens, try J. C. Whitney for Jeep stuff. Here is the top we got. Imagine it in black on a red Jeep.
  13. Well, Bonnie is home and doing well. Again, many thanks to all who bought. The final bill was right at $6k. Coin sales reached just over $900. That will go a long way toward paying the bills. There are a few who have not paid that said they wanted coins. I'll send gentle reminders out over the next couple of days and if I don't hear from you, I'll assume you have changed your mind. I have pretty much everything packed and ready to ship, so I'll start shipping today. I had to buy a few more packing materials, so there will be a few going out later. I have had trouble with the adoption process. I'm not sure if it is a website problem or if I'm too stupid. If I haven't figured out what it is by the time you get your coins, you may need to try from your end.
  14. Sorry, I thought I had responded already. I got my coins before Christmas. Many thanks! One was a way cool Indiana micro that looks like a tiny little basketball! Sent my mission coins out also. We've been terribly busy lately with two funerals, a furnace replacement and a $6,000 vet bill. Hope everyone had a nice holiday.
  15. Many thanks to all who've bought coins. I still just can't believe the generosity of cachers. I know some of you have paid more than the going rate. Bonnie gets to come home today, hopefully. The bill was $4k on sunday. I shudder to think what it will be today. It is worth it, though. She is such a sweetheart. I have only a few coins left and I think I'll keep those. I may want to build my collection back up someday. Besides, they seem to be a good investment!
  16. I have been asked if I would like to head up a horseback aspect of a geocaching event in southwest Ohio. Are there enough cachers with horses to make this worth putting on?
  17. Note to moderator: I have no idea where this goes. It struck me as unusual, but it is sort of related to TB's, but it is sort of Off Topic, too. I occasionally download video games from Shockwave. The latest is a word game based on the new movie, Charlotte's Web. In the game, players make words from the letters appearing in the web. Charms appear at the bottom of the web and get used when they are moved to the top. The pointer is a spider. Anyway, one of the charms is a pair of dog tags with a spider on them! Looks very familiar to me!! So, who is the geocaching game designer?

  20. Read the fine print at the bottom!! Oh, I am keeping track of coins spoken for by emails, not this forum. And my paypal address is different from the addy I use here, so make sure you get a confirmation email about any purchase. If I feel I can afford to cover the loss of the coin, I will not pay the postal service for the insurace. It is a pain in the butt to collect. I will cover the loss personally. If you are paying more than I can afford to cover, I will purchase postal service insurance. I will ship internationally. Ask for rates. No prices listed? Pay what you think the coin is worth. Be reasonable. These cost money originally. I am doing this to make money to pay the bills, not give away my treasures. I don't want to get into a bidding war, but in the case of two emails asking for the same coin on the same day, high offer gets the coin. If you have already emailed me about a specific request, it is reserved for you. Pay what you feel is right. I'm obviously not trying to make all I can or I'd list them on ebay. I need money TODAY, not 7 days from now when the auction ends, then allow 3 days for payment..... you get the idea. Adoption process for activated coins could take a few days, depending on how many I have to do. Also, shipping may take a few days. I will most likely need to pick up some shipping supplies and then haul them to the post office. At the same time as I am liquidating pretty much everything of value that I own, we have a mare due to foal any day, so we check on her every few hours, I am travelling 70 miles one way to see the sick mare, and working full time. Be patient. Thanks. If you are not happy with your purchase for any reason, I will refund your purchase price. No flaming needed. If anyone would like their personal coin from a trade back, let me know. That will take precedence over any purchase, but you'll need to let me know quickly. There are a few more coins that I have received emails about. If the person doesn't take them, I will get them listed. Thanks so much, everyone. I really appreciate all the kind notes I've received. Bonnie is on the road to recovery and should get to come home in the next few days. She'll have to wear a blanket for the rest of the winter, though. They had to shave most of her winter coat to be able to do ultrasounds and other tests. Those of you with a special pet know that you'll pay anything to keep them well. Bonnie is only the third special horse I have been blessed with in over 30 years with horses. She was a rescue case and nearly dead when I got her. I wasn't looking for a Clydesdale, but she stole my heart the first time I laid eyes on her. If any of you have my personal coin, Bonnie is on the "tails" side. Thanks again, everyone. Of course I have other stuff to sell, ask for a list.
  21. I have come upon some hard times and need some fast money. How bad will I be hated/scorned/flamed for selling off my coins? I don't know if it will be through here or that auction site, but I really need to come up with $4,000 for my Clydesdale's vet bill. She has spent the last week at Ohio State U's vet clinic ICU. I'm happy to say that she will be fine, but now I can't afford to feed her! Her name is Bonnie. Now then. My collection is about half trackable and half not. Most of the trackable half are activated. I'm guessing that I'm stuck with these? Can ownership be transferred? What's the best way to go about selling them? If anyone is looking for something in particular, email me with an offer. No, I don't have a Moun10Bike version anything.
  22. I'm not sure I would put that stipulation on my bug, nor would I pay attention to that stipulation on a cache. If I know I will not be caching for awhile, I don't take bugs because I'll be hanging on to them too long. I know cachers that are terrible about forgetting bugs or remembering to log them. Would you want one of them to feel forced to take your TB so they can log the cache? Then your TB is going to ride around in their backpack for possibly months, not moving on to another cache. One bug that was dropped into my event last June was just found in a cache bag yesterday. My personal opinion is that bugs are meant to travel and once you release them, they go where they will. You can send nice notes to folks that hang onto them too long, but that's about all you can do. I do like to leave a bug when I take one, so that others have one to find, but sometimes I find one that is going my way and I can help it along.
  23. I loved the surprises in the shipment, too. Can't wait to get some of my own. The December coin was beautiful. Definitely looks Pacific Northwest-ish.
  24. Ohio's website doesn't say, but I know personalized plates are an extra $35 per year, even if you only get a renewal sticker that year. Sorry, cool as it is, $70 is more than I want to pay for plates.
  25. We are interested, but won't know if we can get vacation until later. Sounds like fun. Could we ship our own camping gear somewhere and then we could handle shipping it back? Just seems silly to buy more when we have a used once tent.
