  1. I have two nearby (90 miles and 45 miles) events coming in the next month and a half. I am looking forward to meeting some cachers at both of those. Because they are in opposite directions, I am sure there will be many different people at both events. Neat topic! I will have to start a log
  2. And I love it! My kids were a little mad on Saturday, though. They listened to the start of your wizard adventure and you LEFT THEM HANGING!!! They have since been satisfied. Keep up the GREAT work!
  3. 1. With all 500 waypoints showing in GSAK, simply chose: Waypoint->Delete Waypoint...->All Waypoints in Filter (button at the top of the box) ->OK 2. Open your zip file with your PQ in it. Drag the PQ file into GSAK and drop it. Honest, it works that easy. If you can't do that, simply save your PQ to your desktop or other place you can find it and chose the folling in GSAK: File->Load GPX/LOC 3.To make this go better, you need to change the association for .gpx files. In GSAK: Tools->gpx file association ->Associate Hope that helps.
  4. I bet there are a few people at Apple who wish iPods used AA's..
  5. I need to buy pizza and beer for the finders of this cache so that I can consider them potential "phone-a-friends". I have been driving myself NUTS over that one. The owner's hint hasn't helped. I have fondled everything within 50' of where my GPS zeroes out. I hadn't thought about asking other cachers until now!
  6. I have seen stuff like that before. Your GPS got itself into a position where it couldn't get a solid "fix" for a few seconds. At that instant, it thought it was actually somewhere else, for a few seconds. The speed to get from your last known position, to the "false" location in the proper time would work out to be 109MPH. Does that make sense?
  7. That's exactly why I went Caching in Iowa (25 miles) yesterday. Their gas is consistently $0.15 less than Illinois. Plus, yesterday Iowa had a "Back to school, no sales tax holiday" so I was able to get the kids some clothes for school and save another 7%. The way I see it, I could make money by geocaching!
  8. Great, now all I can hear is cookie monster singing "C is for Cookie"... It's gonna be a long day.
  9. The easiest way is to pay $3 (to become a premium member) and then you can search for just about any sub-set of caches you want. You don't even have to get all hung up on poket queries, etc. You can view the results right on your screen. Hope that helps.
  10. I bought one for my cell phone. It was a Belkin Brand. It had adhesive that holds very securely. I have often caught my phone on things and never had a problem. They may have a more direct replacement, or if you can figure out what the screw size is, you may be able to put the screw right through the button. I am pretty sure that all of these devices use the same sized button. Good luck! At least it wasn't a "face" button. I was feelling really sorry for you on that one.
  11. When you say button, do you mean one of the buttons on the face, or do you mean the belt clip button on the back of the unit? If you mean the button on the back of the unit, head to Wal*Mart and look in their cell phone accessories. If you mean a face button, I am sorry. Good luck!
  12. That's a tight range. Garmin Legend fits in there. That's what I would buy for the lower end of that spectrum and then add a case/mount/car cable or some other goodie. Good luck!
  13. So, let's see. You are forced to keep a charger at home, at work, with your laptop, in your vehicles... That's what I meant about being a slave to the charger. No matter where you go, you better have a charger of some type, that plugs into the power source available. USB, 12VDC, 110VAC... Everywhere I go, I can buy AA batteries. That is freedom!
  14. Yes, you understood correctly. I was attempting (ok, so not very well) to contrast what Magellan is doing with their batteries and what Kodak does. I think Kodak does it right. Best of both worlds. Safe (can't accidently charge Duracells), and flexible. I have an iPod and a Palm that force me to be a slave to the charger. Before I go to bed every night, I have to wonder if I remembered to charge my iPod and my Palm, because I only have one charger for each and I don't travel to work with it. I know I could buy more chargers, but it would be nice if I could just buy more batteries.
  15. I have a Kodak Digital camera. Kodak solved all of this perfectly. The camera will operate on two AA batteries. Placing it in the cradle with two AA batteries, no matter what type, does nothing. No chargin takes place. They also sell a battery pack, that is shaped just like two AA batteries joined together, but with an extra tab that engages a switch in the camera when inserted. With the battery pack installed, the camera charges while on the dock. So, when I am out shooting pictures and the rechargable pack dies, I simply pull it out and stuff in some good quality AA batteries and I am back in the game. Now, if my iPod, Palm, and the Magellan GPS units did that, I would be a happy man.
  16. I am sure it would be a very nice unit, and perform nicely. I guess I just don't 'like' the MP3 player aspect. It seems kinda wierd to me. I realize I wouldn't have to play MP3's on it, but it just seems silly for it to do that. I wouldn't want my ice fishing, beer drinkin', deer huntin' buddies pokin' fun of me because my GPS plays music. Ya know? If they had the hunt in color, I would be in line. That seems like the ultimate outdoor unit for what I do.
  17. IVxIV said: In the As a brand new Explorist 600 Owner... Thread. I remember because I would love an iFinder Hunt in Color.
  18. Thanks for that link. I am embarassed to say that I have never paid attention to the stuff and couldn't identify it if my life depended on it. I must not react to it. But, I will now know what to look for and keep my kids out of it.
  19. I don't have a mount, but I work with a guy who has both the Garmin windshield mount for his Garmin Quest and the Ram Mount for his Vista. He swears by the Ram mount and swears at the Garmin mount. The Ram mount is solid as a rock, according to him. The Garmin mount forces him to remove the mount to get the unit off the mount due to his windshield angle. He is the only person I have heard complain about that, so it might be his vehicle/mount combo.
  20. After the OUTSTANDING service, price and selection I have received from the GPSGeek's eBay Store, I have always told myself I would buy his case once I own a 60cs...
  21. I didn't realize I was helping you solve a puzzle cache! Ooops. I wouldn't want to be accused of using poor judgement. I think you can find your Answer in the FAQ's in the "Getting Started forum". Good luck!
  22. I found it under: My account - Member Features Hope that helps.
