    Geko 101

Hi everyone. I've been caching for a couple of months now. Getting on just fine. One of my nephews (9) is eager to get into it too, but he doesn't live local so he's looking for his own gpsr. I've been thinking about getting him a geko 101 for his birthday, I know it sounds a bit tight since they're the cheapest gpsr on the market but we can't go crazy. Basically, is the Geko 101 sufficent for basic caching. I'm guessing the answer is going to be 'yes' but i wanted to check that there aren't any fundamental flaws to using it for geocaching. Thanks folks.
  2. I was in Greece during the London bombings. Three days later I returned to Luton with a garmin etrek venture, a plam PDA and a digital camera in my luggage and nobody batted an eyelid. No problems at all went straight thru. I reckon you'll be ok mate. Happy caching in London.
  3. Thanks. That's a releif. No idea what those other guys are talking about. It's a thread called 'British Grid' if anyone wants confusing. cheers forester.
  4. So, I've got a shiny new Etrex Venture full of coordinates, a PDA loaded with GPX files and I'm all ready for my first weekend of caching. Genuinely excited. Then I read something on the beginners forum about british datum settings and OS coordinates needing to be set up correctly otherwise you could be 100 yards off! Does anyone know anything about this? I don't want to spend a weekend clocking up DNFs. Can anyone let me know what settings their etrex is set up for when caching in the UK to save me wandering aimlessly and progressively losing my hair. Thanks folks.
  5. I write kids stories, not for a living but as a hobby. Alot of them are based on nice little places around where I live and I intend to place some caches around these areas in the next few months. I was going to leave a different story in each cache and replace them as needed. Does this seem like a reasonable idea? I am a published author but do you think anyone would consider this self promotion?
  6. Nice one folks. You're absolutely right. It's appeared in very little time. Right, I'm all set then.
  7. Hi. I'm new as you will probably gather from my question. I've recently become a premium member and I would like to run a PQ but I can't figure out how to get it to send my PQ immediately. I can set it up to run on a specific day but not straight away. Anyone help me out? I'm sure this is an easy one for all those veterans out there.

    Zire Pda

Thanks everyone. This is great advice to navigate me through the minefield that represents PDAs. I was thinking that it might be an idea for the powers that be on this forum to start up a recommendation post. Maybe we could list pdas and detail what they will be capable of doing, and if they're any good. eg, if anyone wants to look at maps and connect direct to their gpsr, what do they choose. What OS do you need to run cachemate? and so on. I haven't managed to get hold of one yet but i've seen the original Zire for under 10GBP and if it does all i want then why pay more.

    Zire Pda

Hi folks, can anyone tell me if the Zire PDA with 2mb of memory will do for a paperless geocache machine. Will it run everything i want it too, etc. Cheers.
