  1. On Friday (06/24/05) I was on my way to Westchester county, NY. I stopped by this cache along with the nearby Dry Bridge cache. to check out the details with this cache. It is located in High Bridge Park, north of the GWB. I parked on Laural Hill Terrace which contains the loading docks and guard shacks for the Wilf Campus of Yeshiva University. Located there are the staircases and tower that is pictured in the WCBS NY news piece. I went down the stairs took a left and a quick right into the woods, and found the cache right away. It is a wee bit disingenuous. It appears that the young man Ryan McDonald that "found" the cache, was also the person that placed the cache. I am just guessing here, but I would surmise that Ryan McDonald works for the publicity department of Magellan. He is pretty clever, because he got CBS news to give Magellan a bunch of free advertising. I took the business card that the reporter Brett Larson left in the container. I did not claim the prize that he offered. The Magellan hunt seems to be followed by a core group of people, seems like an interesting idea.
  2. Congratulations, well done.
  3. Many people have said the very same thing, that is the primary source of my disappointment. I find the reception to be the same, if not poorer then the Vista.
  4. Thanks to Mr. Resolution for posting the link. The show appeared on the local NY CBS news. The cacher that they went out with is Ryan McDonald. I am not familiar with his name, perhaps I would know him by his Geocache name, does anyone know his geocache name? I tried to sort out which cache they found, they said it was in Manhattan, but I can not pinpoint the cache. It was in a park like setting that had a stone tower with stairs. One of the log entires was dated 6/11/05. A quick search did not reveal which cache it was.
  5. It seems from reading these boards that the Garmin Map 60CS is one of the most popular, best units for Geocaching. Most posters and users that I communicate with, say in effect "...the 60 CS is great". I do not get it, I do not see what all the unlimited praise is about. I am migrating from the Garmin Vista to the 60 CS Map, and just for pure geocaching uses (not counting the mapping and direction functions) in my limited experience I do not see that the 60Map CS is any better in a pure geocaching mode then the Vista. People tell me that the 60 CS is better in dealing with the overhead canopy then the Vista. In my experience it is only as good as the Vista, perhaps a little worse. With the Vista I was able to go to clear areas and triangulate into the proper area. The 60 CS seems to take a longer time to reacquire the sats, and point to the right location. When the Vista reacquired the Sats, the arrow and distance seemed to be reliable, I do not find the same with the 60 CS. People tell me that the arrow does a better job keeping on target for a longer time to the GZ area. I use the compass mode. The drivers are up to date. It keeps telling me to hold the unit level, more so then the Vista. In my experience the 60CS within the 65 circle of the GZ, is close to useless. My Vista arrow would hold until about 20 feet. With my Vista, I used to frequently match the coordinates that are listed on the page within 10 - 18 feet. With the 60 CS, I can be standing on top of the cache, and it still shifts between 15 - 35 feet on most occasions. The 60 CS seems to have more hype then substance, in my experience. Rather then bash the 60 CS I am hoping that perhaps I need to develop some techniques that are slightly different then the techniques that I used for the Vista. Has anyone else feel let down that in actual geocache use, the 60 CS has not lived up to its hype? Are there any suggestions as to better techniques to using the 60 CS in geocache use? Any feedback, techniques, or other suggestions would be much appreciated. Thank you.
