  1. Here is the interesting anomaly that I discovered. This morning I tried the Markwell Mapsource directions and it did not work. When I uploaded it to Google Earth, I was provided a starting line from my start to end point, irregardless of the route that I selected in Mapsource. I cam back to my office, read the responses to my post and see that in order to create a user defined route in Google Earth, use the Mapsource directions, I tried it and it worked perfectly. So now I ask, why did it work this afternoon when I used the Mapsource directions and it did not work this morning when I followed the same procedure. The only difference between this morning and this afternoon, is that when I created the GPX file, I had waypoints in my Mapsource program. The waypoints were created into the GPX file along with the route. When I created the GPX file this afternoon and did not have any waypoints only one route it uploaded to Google Earth correctly. Wacky, anyone else experience this?
  2. If you cannot create a use defined route and convert it into a .kml file through Google Earth? Is there any other way to perfom this task?
  3. I would like to create a KML file that I can upload to GC.com so that I can find caches along a route. When I put in the start and end points into Google Earth, it does not select the exact route that I will travel. In Mapsource or Street & Trips I can route along intermediate points to force a slightly different route. How can I force Google Earth to route along intermediate or multiple points, or is there a way that I can create a KML file from a Mapsource route? Any assistance would be appreciated. Thank you.
  4. Well done Bro Man ! Nice to see a new enthusiastic Northern New Jersey Cacher. Welcome to the insanity.
  5. I received a email from my Mother In Law asking if I could determine where this picture is taken. The map base that I have or can easily access can only narrow down the location to Peru. Please take a look at the picture and perhaps someone has a more detailed map set of South America and can specifically identify this high mountain location.
  6. Congratulations, TT, nicely done.
  7. Nicely done, congratulations.
  8. Nicely done, congratulations. Only 611 more to go to reach the magical number. For Snat the operative number is not the number that he has found, but the number that he has hid. Each one is a quality cache in a unique and well thought out setting. We are indeed fortunate to have him in our area.
  9. Point well taken, but here are more thoughts. First I do not know what the sustance is, so I would not handle it myself. Also there are some deer baiting programs around our area, so perhaps it has something to do with that, I doubt it but that is a consideration. In a excess of caution I will report it to the police. Perhaps they know more about it or have seen this before. It is probably innocuous, no need to raise the alarm, but let the local police department decide what the next steps are.
  10. There was no suggestions that anyone would put this in their mouth. In fact, not knowing what the substance was I would not even touch it. I used the bottom of my boot or a stick Good thought, It was the first idea that I considered but then discounted. The potato was found within 100 feet of a very popular trail, in a strictly no hunting area and only about 280 - 300 feet from a major road and office building. It is also very close to a residential neighborhood. Not a place that a hunter even an illegal hunter would set up shop. The person would get caught pretty quickly and get themselves into a bunch of trouble quickly. Further whatever the substance it seems not to attract animals or insects. The potato was in pretty good shape, not being touched by any animal.
  11. Thanks for the replies. I did get the coordinates for the potato. It is not from a picnic of anything like that. It was deliberately placed there, there is additional yellow powder besides the food stuffs. Any other insights or reasonable speculation would be appreciated.
  12. The items on top of the potato's are not spiders or bugs, just pieces of leaves that fell on top. I would like to bump this thread up and see if I can get any more hits as to what the purpose of this mystery item being placed.
  13. Today I completed the Township Of Hanover Central Park Cache geocache in Hanover Township (Whippany), NJ which is in Morris County. The cache is located within 100 feet of the Patriots Path and perhaps 250 feet from a small stream. While searching for the cache I came across an unusual item. It was a potato sliced in half and the two halves were covered by a yellow powder. There was also a small pile of the yellow powder nearby. It looks like it has been there for a few days, yet the insects and animals have not touched the potato. I was careful not to touch the powder or potato. Has anyone ever seen this before? Does anyone know the purpose of someone taking the time and effort to placing this item? I do not believe it will be for hunting purposes, it is too close to the trails and perhaps 300 feet from a traveled road. Any insights would be appreciated.
  14. Way to go ON !! Congratulations, well done.
  15. "(sic)" is a grammatical tool. Here is a definition from Wikipedia Sic is a Latin word meaning "thus", "so", or "just as that". In writing, it is italicized and placed within square brackets — [sic] — to indicate that an incorrect or unusual spelling, phrase, or other preceding quoted material is a verbatim reproduction of the quoted original and is not a transcription error
  16. I am due to meet a French Canadian friend in the Adirondacks. They provided a name of the camping grounds / park put I cannot successfully Google it. Their English is a bit weak, so I believe that the spelling / name got garbled in the email translation that they sent to me. Here are two sentences from their email. Can any of my Adirondacks buddies recognize this location? Any assistance would be appreciated: I'm going camping to Rolling park State Parc for the first week of september 1-2-3-4. Rolling park is close to White face mountain in the Adirondake also close to Lake placid. It's in New-York state. Does this description make sense to anyone, different spelling perhaps?
