  1. Would they consider geocaching to be off-topic? I mean finding like-minded geocachers was the point of the thread, right? Are you on meetup? Of course, it would depend on that particular group, but most groups are open to a variety of activities and happy to have help with event organzing. We do geocaching meetups with our homeschool meetup group.
  2. It's a very good cause, but like the guidelines say geocaching is supposed to be a 'light, family activity'.
  3. OP, are you on meetup? If there's a gay meetup group in your area, perhaps you can become an event organizer and organize geocaching events. I love meetup, it's a great way to meet new people.
  4. Not to derail this thread, but you can actually get a can of pop for 50 cents where you live? Here, it's more like $1.75.
  5. Agree with all, except the full logbook. I posted a NM today for a cache with a full log. The owner has lots of caches and so will probably not be reading the individual 'so and so found it' emails, but a Needs Maintenace email will stand out more. As a cache owner, I would like to know if the log book needs replacing or if anything needs fixing.
  6. Wow. In my area, just going geocaching in shorts and t-shirts is risky. Too many thorns and branches.
  7. I tried putting leftover in a lock n lock once (we have a pile in our hallway) and it was weird. I mean, really, 4 snaps? What in the world are people trying to protect their food from?
  8. Well, sure. And if you get to the cache and it's not there, just throw down a film can and log your find. After all, you were there, right? Is there really a big difference between: 1) downloading a Soduko-solver and using it to solve the puzzle, vs 2) spending an hour on the phone with a friend who talks you through the solution? Other than the amount of time it takes, I mean. Not much difference at all: in both, you're copping out on the puzzle and not really earning the find, in my opinion. Which is why I go with option 3 for sudoku caches or other puzzles: solving the puzzle myself. What you really mean is that you looked for a solver online, but couldn't find one. I tried solving one by hand once. It was nauseating. Let's put it this way, when you do a projection, do you do it by hand or do you use the tools available to you? Do you go the library for information to solve a puzzle or do you use Google? Just saying.
  9. edit, you must have edited at the exact time I hit "reply" jynx! LOL. I figured nobody needed to hear me whine. Glad to see a local on here.
  10. Thanks very much for all the responses and links. I will try to figure something out that will be allowed. There's alot of creative people in my area and would love to read what they come up with.
  11. Saw it posted somewhere here. It's not in my area. It challenges cachers to write a 'liar log' about the arduous lengths they had to go to find the cache...uphill both way...the cache itself is a quick grab....there's a picture of a military guy on the cache page....and he calls people maggots. The reason being I just submitted a cache similar to it and it was rejected. I want the link so I can send it to appeals. Thanks!
  12. Read the hint, read the description well, look for ones with low difficulty ratings, check the recent logs to make sure it's not missing. I stayed away from micros for at least my first 20 finds.
  13. BTW, there's no need to solve Soduku puzzles by hand. There are Soduku-solvers you can download for free.
  14. Looks like there's lots of space in the parks near you. I would suggesting doing the multicaches and puzzle caches in the area you want to hide, at least you'll get less surprised that way. Whenever you find a physical stage, mark a waypoint, so you can figure out how far away to put your cache. What about Hellyer County Park?
  15. Totally understand. It's also especially frustrating to see caches that have been neglected for a long time holding a spot when somebody new could probably place a great cache there.
  16. That's similar to what one of our cache owners does here. She takes part of a toothpick and attaches it to the end of the log with a piece of what looks like painter's tape (it's green). When the log is rolled, the toothpick is in the middle. Works beautifully and not too hard to do.
  17. Please explain how/why mtn-man, excuse me, puppymonster is the reviewer for British Columbia, Canada. Before you go look up his profile, puppymonster lives in Atlanta, Georgia. Actually our main reviewer right now is Wizard of Ooze. I have been told our reviewer spends 3-5 hours per day volunteering in addition to full time work. I think we could use more reviewers here too.
  18. I had a similar experience in a high-muggle zone. Nearly had to take the cache and come back later.
  19. This is very funny. Thanks for the laugh. Nearly peed myself at the bottom of September.
  20. Very cool! Our daughter's first cache got published today. We worked long and hard on it and are glad to see people finding it.
