  2. Since the update when I submit Field Notes they do not show up when I get back to my PC and try to access them. They seem to disappear into the ether even though the app says they are successfully submitted.
  3. FIND ME is horrible, sorry but it is the weakest of the three "Geocaching themed" movies discussed in this thread.
  4. I think it would be in very bad form to do that.
  5. This is awesome for Magellan to do. I have just seen this so I have submitted a request for goodies to give away, hopefully it isn't too late. Just out of curiosity how were the Super Sponsorship events selected? As that seems to have been done before this announcement. Cheers, Z
  6. Yes but a preform is smaller than a small tupperware I suggest we add the size Large-ish Small Micro!
  7. It'll be pretty difficult to violate all of the guidelines... I so almost posted that I'd like to see a picture of a "supernano." I suspect it is a regular nano with a superiority complex.
  8. Pens, oh I've lost so many pens. I suspect every cacher in my county could cache with the pens I've lost.
  9. Bummer, sounded like a modern Tomb Raider. I know this was a Beta but does Ubi often end games this abruptly?
  10. I disagree with the bolded bit. If you HAD to use a ladder, and I've done one very recently that this was exactly the case, then that is a Terrain 5 because specialized equipment is REQUIRED. Same as a climbing harness would be required for a repelling cache, same as a kayak would be required for a cache on an island. Yes, I understand there are ALWAYS other ways to get a cache. Instead of a ladder, repelling gear, or kayak you hire a helicopter to get to GZ. But reasonably 99.9% of cachers will need that equipment, this is Terrain 5. The terrain is not just the walk to the cache, it is the entire trip from vehicle to cache in hand. That includes the grab. You made creative use of a found item at GZ, I applaud you for that. In doing so you lowered your terrain, no doubt. The Difficulty is how well the cache is concealed, how hard it is to derive the coordinates, or how well the cache is protected. IE, lock, inside a building, etc. I would rate the OPs cache in question a 2D/2T. 2 Difficulty because it is a black nano, on a black sign, not in a normal nano spot, and in public. 2 Terrain because it is not handicap accessable (I doubt many wheelchair bound cachers could lift a 7 ft length of PVC), it is not a PnG lampskirt, it is out of normal reach and requires a bit of creativity to grab and replace correctly. There are probably (by this system) 4 and 4.5 caches that may be considerably more challenging that many "5" terrain caches because of the equipment aspect. When I see a 4 or 4.5 terrain, I know it's going to be a tough one - be it a very grueling (or long) hike or a non-gear required climb, ascent/descent. (and I know it's gonna be a kick-a** time ) I don't disagree with any of that statement. All Terrain 5 caches are not created equal. If I have to scuba to a cache 25 feet under water that is a Terrain 5, but if I know Scuba and have the equipment, it isn't a tough cache. If there were a cache on top of Mt Everest, that would most certainly be Terrain 5 but no matter what I could never achieve it. Same for the cache on The International Space Station.
  11. You smoke? Burn the end of a stick and you have a charcoal pencil. Are there thorns, finger prick and you have ink. Are there green leaves? crush one up a bit, lay it on the log and scratch your name on it with a stick, you should get decent carbon paper, or make ink from grass or leaves. Are there berries nearby? Mud? Bird droppings? In fact one time I rubbed a newpaper on my finger till it was black with ink and then crudely wrote my name in smudge. all of these may not be "sanitary" but I've seen it done or done every one of them. Most of this was early on in my geocaching career, it still happens rarely, but normally I go nowhere without several Sharpie Pens in tow.
  12. Almost every event I have ever been to has had some kind of door prizes and people seem to love them I always get a pile of donations when I host one. But I have only sold tickets for the raffle one time and that was several years ago when we raised money for a food bank and animal shelter following Katrina. At that time what I did was give one raffle ticket per two cans of food or $1 donated. I am not sure based on what was said above if this would be allowed today. If you do try to do this I would not put much emphasis on it and certainly don't make it any sort of requirement. Work with your reviewer to see if there is a way to do a food drive within the current guidelines or contact Groundspeak and ask for an exception. Good luck!
  13. I can think of three times something like this has happened to me. 1) I was looking for a cache in a park in New Orleans, it was listed as a micro and I found a tupperware about 100 feet from the posted coordinates. The GC code written on the cache didn't match but it was certainly a cache and not a letterbox. I signed the og, went back to GZ and soon found the cache. When I got home I searched the GC code and found that it was a puzzle cache hidden back in the days before you had to enter the real coordinates online. So it had slipped past the current proximity censors. I logged both as Finds even though I didn't solve the puzzle. (It was a fun puzzle I did solve it later on for kicks) 2) I was caching in a small park in Colorado with a walking track, there was a four stage multi in the park, the fourth and final stage an amoo can. Stage three was damaged so that I could not read the coordinates, but based on where the first three stages were I found the ammo can with a little looking (not many open spots, plus a big obvious piece of tree bark sitting on top of it.) Logged it as a find and the owner was tickled that I found it by brute force. 3) My wife and I were on a cruise and were walking along a beach when we saw this really neat hollowed tree. This was before I was hardcore enough to search for caches when we went on vacation. I had a Hmmmm moment, walked over to the tree and quickly extracted a black plastic cardfile box. I signed the log while my wife rolled her eyes. I logged it as a find.
  14. I assume you derived your image from the Rubel released several years ago, I have a few in my collection. Nice coin, I love space history so I may pick up one of these to go along with my currency.
  15. Oh btw, and sorry for the double post. I have met ClayJar, he is a true old schooler, and his system is very much based on finding 5 gallon buckets in the woods of South Louisiana. Urban hides don't easily classify within his rating schema.

  17. Would love to go, but I have never been to the NE. We will see what happens.
  18. Yes I would consider the beach safe a micro although I have seen them both ways and they do vary in size somewhat between makers. That preform could very well be a small, but that is not the typical preform I see 99% of the time.
  19. I was inspired by a few of the large "matchtubes" earlier in the thread. Welding Rod Holder - $5.99 at Harbor Freight Giant novelty pen - 6 for $6 on Amazon Giant log scroll - Printed at work Also thinking of making a few giant matches from dowels but haven't decided yet.
  20. TSAWSF: I respect your opinion but Groundspeak has issued no change to the sizes since they were introduced. Maybe Nano should be a size, that's not the point of this discussion. What I know is that a preform is not a small as it holds no "normal" swag. Yes it can hold some beads, and I even mentioned a dime in my previous post, but what your picture does not include is a log or a pen, something I try to always include in my cache sif possible. Start wrapping 4 or 5 sheets of log paper in that tube and the volume goes away really quick. Also, what is a super nano? I must have missed those somewhere along the line.
  21. You want to go there, I will. "geby" has made every post they have ever made in this one thread hocking this product, they've never contributed to another geocaching discussion in any aspect of the site. The product may be free but I see it as nothing more than an advertisement. As others have said there are clear donation links on the site, so free product of not, there is money involved. Also, don't presume you know whether or not I have looked at the product, my comment was concise to my point of view, something I am as equally allowed to represent as you are. Respect is a two-way street. Why migrate, if someone is satisfied with GSAK? Geoget is just another alternative. Having a choice is good for people. Everyone can choose what suits them best. BTW: Geoget is not a new software. It starts at year 2006. It have at least same popularity as GSAK in our national community now. Exists GSAK macro for transfer user data from the GSAK to Geoget, because people want it. But nobody want tool for switch back! So, some people probably leave GSAK and using Geoget instead. However still is true what I wrote on the begin: Choose software what you want and what is best for you. Everyone has different needs and different requirements. It is hard to say by me. Geoget and GSAK doing lot of things differently. I start with Geoget just because GSAK not satisfy me. Most major differencies are (But I probably forgot some important...): - Geoget can be fully localized to any language. Localization can be made by anyone without my interraction. You need to have standard GetText tools only. - Geoget can be easily used for manage of any geographic points. Not just for geocaches or waymarks. - Geoget have more modern GUI then GSAK. - GSAK is widely used, Geoget not yet. Of course. As can be seen the creator of GeoGet dislikes GSAK, the reasons are not clear and honestly I don't care. They are welcome to try their own thing all day long, I take offense to their blatant advertisement in these forums. That's all I have to say on the topic. Good day.
