  1. There is a local cacher that has had a number of hides stolen recently. He has even been contacted by the thief who asked for things like an ammo box for "ransom". The cacher contacted HQ and was told such issues were between cachers and they would not get involved.
  2. I haven't used GSAK for a while. I'll get on and try it that way.
  3. Is it possible in filtering to hide/ignore a particular cachers's hides.
  4. I cache fairly often with groups. One group is four of us that go out at least once a month. We're Nash-Chloe, burg•girl, Beare16 and SoonerCardsFan. So one of us signs logs as NCBGBRSCF. One or more of us will log the names of all of us in our online logs. Another group goes out on random Sundays and finds a list of hard to find, high up or otherwise difficult. No matter how many people attend the logs get signed as SAGFG (Sunday afternoon grid filler group). Everyone posts "Found as part of the (group name)" in their online log. The third group is randomly formed at our local club's monthly lunch meeting or other vents and can be 2 to 20 or more people. The logs get signed something like "COG after lunch group". Everyone posts "Found as part of the (group name)" in their online log. Saves a lot of time and log space.
  5. I have a 24' that I got on Amazon. I'm going to remove the handle from a heavy duty grabber and mount it on the end with a long string to work the grabber. So it will still have the hook and have a grabber.
  6. Answer! The reviewer replied that a cacher asked a bunch of questions about hide requirements. He must have assumed that the reviewer's answers were new rules. They were not. They were the rules that have been in place for years.
  7. No one I've talked to has heard of any new rules. I've emailed our reviewer but I suspect that I'll get the same answer from him.
  8. At the risk of sounding stupid. A local cacher posted on our group's Facebook page that there are new rules requiring hides to be made easier to find. Including a description of the container and directions to find it in the hint. I'm not the best researcher but I can't find anything like that. Anyone have a clue where he got this idea?
  9. Break into the top 30 cachers in finds in Oklahoma. Hit 6000 finds. I'm at 5956 now so that's no problem. Then I'll be going for 7000. Hide more.
  10. My goals were to get into the top 40 cachers in finds in Oklahoma. And to hit 5000 finds. After both of those were accomplished I raised the bar to the top 30 and 6000 finds. Missed those with 5924 and 32nd. Getting ready to post that in the 2024 thread.
  11. My Garmin eTrex and my iphone are just about equally accurate. The phone sometimes "wanders" for a second or two when nearing a GZ. But that doesn't happen all the time.
  12. I was looking at a cache a couple of days ago that had a log "Out with SoonerCardsFan today. Found this one after long search" posted by my long time caching buddy so I have found it. It was from 2016. And I failed to log it. Oops! I'll log it with the correct found date after I get over being embarrassed. That wouldn't happen now that I use the phone to cache. I log finds as I go.
  13. I posted here a while ago that my current priorities were hitting 5000 finds, done, getting into the top 40 all time in finds by Oklahoma cachers, done, I'm 36th. Yesterday made this year the second most finds in one year. I'll never catch the best year because my BIL and I did a lot of power trails in 2012. I'm quickly catching 35 and 34 in Oklahoma. I've got to come up with a fitting and worthy log to write when I tie each of them. They both passed somewhere around 6 an 8 years ago. I had met both and they were great people. I'll have mixed feelings about catching each.
  14. I'm not real high on the idea of automatic archiving. A few times over the years my best caching buddy and I have set out to different areas in Oklahoma and N Texas with lists specifically made up oh hides that hadn't been found in at least 3 years. Some were many more years than that. We had about a 75% success rate. So a lot of legitimate caches would have been archived if they were done automatically.
  15. I use the app and google maps. I have lists saved by area in a 30 mile radius from home. And a number of locations of solved puzzle caches saved in google maps.
  16. I agree. I start every log with TFTC! Then go on with more of a story or description pertaining to that find. We have a pretty large group of cachers, mostly very experienced, that meet once a month for lunch, have CITO events and other weekend long events a couple of times per year. Most all of us in the group and some others outside the group are in agreement that if any of us find missing, full or mushy logs that we're free to replace them. Only a couple want the old logs and everyone respects that. Also some don't mind and even appreciate the replacement of containers if you're absolutely sure it's missing.
  17. Getting older is not for the weak. I had both hips replaced in Aug '18. I've still been in some constant pain since then. I can't sit for more than a half hour or so without the pain level increasing. So day long caching like I used to do is out. Sometimes my legs go numb/weak. So climbing or walking too far is a thing of the past. So I now filter the map to 2.5 and under terrain with no hiking.
  18. I just look for caches on my list until I reach a point where I have to go in order to be at my destination on time. Then continue looking on the return trip.
  19. You can go into the journal entries of each AL and see if the friend has logged an entry. Could be time consuming if there's many to check out.
  20. I just thought of another thing. There's a local cacher that has had business card like cards printed. There's some graphics on one side and on the other is "(Cacher's name) found this on (blank for the date)". In an ammo can, lock & lock or any similar sized container fine. But this cacher manages to cram a folded card into pill bottles, key holders, etc. making the real log very difficult to get out.
  21. I've developed a bit of a local reputation for my dislike of wadded up logs. A friend I go caching with holds the log up like she's going to wad it up. Then she does it properly while laughing.
  22. I would say the number of new hides has definitely dropped in the past few years. The number of local events seems to have increased. A monthly club meeting has been augmented lately by holiday meetings, special days like National Pizza Day or National Taco Day meetings, etc.
  23. This was a number of years ago. I'd have to dig awhile to find the code. The cache was along the bank of the Oklahoma river in OKC. It was hidden by a cacher known for his "bugs", "bug eaters" and other hides that resembled something living. My caching buddy and I have always had a teamwork thing. He climbs. I stick my hand/arm where mouth people wouldn't. I was reaching back into an opening in a pile of large chunks of broken up concrete. I saw fur and figured that was the container. But no, it was a real bunny. The bunny ran over my arm and between my legs. I think I jumped straight up 3 feet from a crouch. And I screamed like a little girl. My buddy thought it was the funniest thing he'd ever seen of course.
  24. I haven't read all 92 pages so this has probably all ready been beaten to death. It's just that I found a bunch last weekend that this applies to. Finders need to learn how to properly fold or roll a log sheet. I HATE a log wadded up and stuffed in a pill bottle, preform, key holder, etc.
