  1. After some discussion with Meesa. We have decided to keep it in the family instead of selling it. It now resides in Monkey Man & Lulu's collection.
  2. Mine has never been activated or logged, however, when I look up the tracking number it does have Signal the Frog listed as the owner.
  3. I did find out that that policy has changed: http://support.Groundspeak.com/index.php?pg=kb.page&id=165
  4. I've never been much of a geocoin collector but I have a couple dozen that I plan on selling off (need Christmas money). My most valuable by far is a 2005 Lackey coin that was given to my by Bryan Roth. I know some coins have restrictions on selling. Are there any restrictions on this coin I should be aware of before listing it on e-bay?
  5. Either way. You all know where to find PODCACHER Show #152.
  6. Podcacher just did a great episode on this exact topic. In fact there is an interview with Meesa and I, we met through geocaching. There is also a very special question I ask Meesa at the end of the interview . Check out the episode here: <link removed>Show 152 Edit: sorry, I had to remove the link to commercial site. <ducks and runs>
  7. A couple things to remember. The Venturing program is a different program than Boy Scout program. Venturing can be hobby themed ours happens to be Geocaching. Virtiually any type of club can become a Venturing Crew, including computer gaming and roll playing. Geocaching is not all our crew does. We have been canoeing, hiking, caving, camping, etc. geocaching is just something we do while were doing all those other things. Just because we use GPSr's for our hobby doesn't mean that we don't teach map and compass skills.
  8. Here's the website for more info and forum. http://www.midwestgeobash.org/
  9. I'm going to order a few more. How many preorders have been sold so far?
  10. I ordered 5 from the crew. Definatly a good cause!
  11. In the guidelines it says "CITO Events are set up and sponsored by geocachers – not by other organizations." However, if it is organized by leaders and parents that are geocahers. The scout pack could attend the event but not host the event in their name. I guess it all depends on how it's worded on the cache page whether it's approved or not. I'm a cubmaster and an advisor for a geocaching themed Venturing crew. The crew hosted a CITO this spring. It was the youth members that did all the organizing for the event. I guess we didn't have a problem getting it approved because the crew is a "geocaching club."
  12. Another draw is to have a limited number (100) of geocoins minted and make them only available at the event. You'll get some collectors to come that wouldn't go otherwise.
  13. I've ran into other cachers several times while looking, but my most memorable was while I was placing a cache. I placed the cache and was hiking back to the trailhead, I met another team of local cachers on the trail, they had a cache container in hand ready to place it in the same area. It was a cool coincedence, we stood there chatting for about fourty-five minutes.
  14. Update: It's official the venturing crew is now up and running. We are calling it "Geocrew 4485" because it is being started within N44º W85º . I just registered 9 new youth (7M,2F) I'm hoping that number will double over the next month. Even though the theme of this crew will be geocaching, they are not limited to that. They haven't had their planning conference yet but I'm sure it'll include a variety of activities. Our first event to attend is the Traverse City Winter Convergence V. For most of them this will be their first geocaching expierience. I'm sure it will be one they won't forget.
  15. I'm in the process of organizing a venture crew. MiGO (Michigan Geocaching Organization) has agreed to be the chartering organization, so it's theme will be geocaching. IMO this will be a perfect combination of high adventure scouting and geocaching. As far as I know it will be the first crew with this theme. Venturing is a youth development program of the Boy Scouts of America for 14-20 year old boys and girls. Every venturing crew has a focus on a specific hobby or vocation. Whatever the venturing crew decides to do is limited only by the imagination of the youth and adult leaders. For more information visit the Venturing BSA site: venturing Let me know what you think.
