  1. I got an EMAIL from Garmin, and I will be getting a 50% off upgrade.
  2. I have a Street Pilot I5 which has a preloaded map of City Navigator > North America version 7. I registered or unlock my I5 last 02/22/2006. > There is a new version of City Navigator North America NT DVD version 8 > for my I5, but the release date was on 04/05/2006. > exactly 42 days after I unlocked my I5 City Navigator Version 7. How much do you think Garmin will charge me for an upgrade? I don`t expect to pay full $75 upgrade, if I`m only 42 days early of the release date of the new version
  3. I sold my 60C last month and bought another Garmin for my car (Street Pilot I5). I think those Garmin 60CX`s are good.
  4. I`d rather get a 60Cx (Save that extra bucks! You don`t have to waste your time recalibrating it) just buy a cheap compass at Walmart. Needle compass doesn`t need battery. It is also the best thing to carry when your GPS malfunctions.
  5. 60Cx is a good choice plus buy a $5 compass at Walmart. I`d rather spend an extra $ with a unit that locks flawlessly under heavy tree, than buy a cheap one that will be a pain in the b... down the road.
  6. What I want is to load these POI (speed radar) .GPX and keep all the other waypoints, routes etc... I already have loaded from a saved .gdb file ! The POI file I load (.GPX) destroy the previous informations. It`s better if you keep them separate, speed_radar.GPX and your regular waypoints file (either .gpx or gdb) while using mapsource. For POI LOADER- All you can do is make 1 folder (e.g. POI) and put all files in there(files that can be read by POI LOADER e.g. .csv , bmp ???). Your Unit , when it sees different .csv files will automatically creates a directory : Speed, waypoints, cache, etc...(e.g. depends on how you named your .csv file) Make sure you direct the link to the folder you have created when running the POI LOADER. POI Loader will automatically grab all .csv files and .bmp (it will prompt you to include speed and feet for proximity alarm only if it sees .csv file with these names: "GATSO," "mobile," "SPECS," "safety," "camera" or "redlight". If you don`t have any backup of other POI files you first installed to your unit, then you are out of luck. It will all get deleted when you load new POI`S that doesn`t have old data in there...
  7. He`s right. You can also add .bmp icon for each type of poi. make sure the bitmap file has 24x24 pixels or lower and the same name as .csv file. (e.g. REDLIGHT.csv and REDLIGHT.bmp) And if you want the UNIT to warn you of upcoming POI, you have to name .csv file to either "GATSO," "mobile," "SPECS," "safety," "camera" or "redlight". More info here: http://www.gpsinformation.org/penrod/poilo.../poiloader.html
  8. I just tried to convert .csv file to .gpx and open it up using a mapsource software and it worked (flawlessly!) I use GPXTOPOI software to convert .gpx file to .csv (vice-versa). I use mapsource and make a waypoint and save it as .gpx, Then convert the .gpx file using the gpxtopoi software to create .csv file. Once you have a .csv file, you can run the garmin POI loader to send it to your GPS unit. Make sure you keep your .gpx file that you have created for future editing. Everytime you send a .csv files to your unit using the poi loader, it deletes all Custom POI you previously saved to the unit. Reading .csv file to mapsource is a lot easier. You have to convert the .csv file to .gpx using the gpxtopoi program. Then open up .gpx file ,that you have created, using mapsource. Those locationS will show up as a waypoint. Here is the link : csvtopoi program http://www.masterclass.com/gpxtopoi/downlo...pxtopoi_110.EXE
  9. Here`s the pic of the Mini Gillson antenna Here`s the pic of the Street Pilot i5 and the antenna (Wires are very easy to hide along the lower edge of the windshield and the edge of A pillar down to the lower edge of the dash- It was a clean install.) Another Gillson antenna shots Here`s the i5 (I moved it as close as possible to the gauges, so that the those important warning lights are not being blocked. (TPMS and Low tire pressure are the only 2 lights that are partially block by the GPS unit- All I have to do is lean left or right to see it. Tire pressure monitor can also be monitored by Door and Tailgate/Tire Pressure Monitor. See Page 57 -2005 MANUAL. This location is the safest since It will prevent me to Fu...around with the unit while traveling 70-80 MPH on the highway. But the location is 100% accessible. Left side shot. Right side shot. The coil wire is for my Radar detector (Placed left lower front windshield- Radar not installed as you can see the wire on the left most part of the pic is dangling around). And the straight wire that is being wrapped by the coil wire is power supply for the i5. Lastly, the most important part is that I got a Full BAR of GPS Signal! BTW, I`m still waiting for the screen protector to arrive, as you can see, I haven`t removed the stock screen mylar yet... Let me know what you guys think...
  10. The I5 doesn`t have a harddrive(that is why it doesn`t lag). It uses a built-in flash memory. The mapping software can be flashed if upgrade version is available + you have another room fro 256MB for optional removable Micro SD for other types of maps to install. (Note: All Garmin GPS w/ removable memory won`t be able to store waypoints to the card only can store map data). BTW I just got my I5 today. Pretty small , but I don`t have problem seeing it. I place it on top of the steering column (Where the steering wheel connects) and when I leave the car , I place a baseball hat to hide it. If you don`t want built-n flash memory try the I3 it has Micro SD only($299) I recommend checking the unit out at Circuit City for comparison. BTW does the 2610 screen comes in 256 color only? If you don`t like the I5 or I3 . Street Pilot C320 is the best choice! (I heard QUEST and Quest2 lag).
  11. I just got my Streetpilot I5 and I should have waited for awhile to register my GPS. Since it has a built in Ver. 7.0 Navigator NA map, everything will work without registering it. Now it shows I register the unit on Feb. 22, 2006. If Ver. 8 Navigator comes out on June `06 then I`m not eligible for free upgrade. $#$#@%@%@%% Will I still get a discount if ever .Ver.8 Navigator NA comes out this year (June `06)?
  12. I`m actually gonna use the antenna for the Garmin I5 --> I just sold my 60C. I do appreciate all your feedback. BTW, that EBAY price is cheap! Thanks!
  13. Wow! I think it is. The guy is selling it on EBAY for $33 shipped. PAYPAL payment sent to ebay ---->done!

  15. I`d rather get the garmin I5. Cheaper and you don`t care if you leave it inside the car. I heard Quest and Quest 2 still lag. The I5 has good review and it locks pretty well even if you mount it right infront of the speedometer or below the dash . It has a complete detailed map of USA , CANADA and Puerto Rico + have an option to add other maps by using Trans Flash card (max capacity of 256MB). You might think it is small, but you have to see it to believe that size doesn`t matter at all. (Guys, don`t give this reason to your wives). Currently, the Garmin I5 cost $350 online
  16. I sold my GPS unit that was 1st unlocked to this software (As you can see on my previous post). It has one unlock code left which is free. 17. -Last price $300 shipped (USA only) Paypal (preferred) or USPS money order payments only. If you guys are still waiting for me to lower the price , this is it. I can`t lower it anymore. If nobody takes it, I`ll just keep the unit.

  19. Thanks for the explanations and for the pic, ImpalaBob. I bet a few people here would be happy to see the same pic for the BE130 (both sides !). P. Problem solve!
