  1. So it wasn't the length of the gpx file? Interesting. <gloat mode off>
  2. Excellent suggestion! CITOs have positively affected our relationship with several parks here in Washington. A specific example is Discovery Park in Seattle, which rescinded its 2-year ban on geocaching after we engaged with them and collaborated on several CITOs of their choice; Seattle City parks also cancelled plans to restrict/ban caching in other city parks. Our work parties on Cougar Mountain have helped strengthen our relationship with King County Parks, which now supports caching on all its lands. Richland City Parks in the Tri-Cities goes so far as to have an annual Geocoin Challenge to get folks to visit all its parks. I could go on, but you get the idea. The parks around the Beaverton area are maintained by the Tualatin Hills Park & Recreation District. Kyle who, works for THPRD, monitors caches and had his own CITO. http://www.geocachin...be-61aa8f105ea1 He even will recommend tiny out of the way parks that need a cache. Maybe the PDX park guy should talk to Kyle.
  3. Just one small point. If you chop down the size of a query, it might not be the size that is the problem. I'm guessing maybe you chopped off a particular cache that causes the FW to barf.
  4. I am a 60csx SIRFer dude. My only nit pick is the antenna is a directional cone out the top and the mag sensor is a 2 axis horizontal. I have an external antenna for tree cover.
  5. The FW runs exactly the same for all so if it was a software problem you would get a lot of responses. My guess is broken hardware.
  6. Link: Introducing Tebowing. It's like planking, but dumber.
  7. There is a recent thread that discusses a bug. Look for a subject that has Etrex 20 in it.
  8. How long has the 60csx been discontinued? I was looking for updates and noticed the status.
  9. I have trimmed/split gpx's with EasyGPS. Select a block of wpts with select and shift select and saveas. http://www.geocaching.com/software/default.aspx
  10. Take it back to he dealer like you should have done in the first place. Magellan would only do dealer exchange when I had problem.
  11. You should have waited a few minutes. Someone posted a link while you were typing.
  12. My wild guess is that one of the main causes of position error is atmospheric conditions and the ionosphere changes slow enough so that this error cancels out at a one second rate. Garmin is trying to tell us the hundredth digit is not significant(has no meaning because of accuracy). They are saying the distance can be off by more than .01 mile.
  13. Tracks can be run through a smoothing program. I also have wondered why the don't use smoothing on the fly.
  14. I have a number of the various Sony Ericsson devices that have ANT+ hardware. If anyone is feeling ambitious and want to write an app - I would be happy to test. I forgot about apps. If there are no apps I guess the answer to the OP question about Chirp caches is can't be done.
  15. The hardware gives you an approximate current location with an error of up to 30'. When the software plots a bunch of approximate locations to make a track you get an approximate distance. The position errors cause zig-zagging which adds distance. IMHO I don't think a new wheel will help until GPSs get more accurate positions.
  16. I am not saying there is a no problem, I am saying LightSquared will not transmit out of band. I said it was nit pick. Transmitting out of band is illegal. Saying LightSpeed will transmit outside the band is saying they will break the law. That could be slander. Typing it on the web could be libel. Saying they can't avoid transmitting out of band is because of "physics" is absurd and insulting.
  17. This thread kind of fits with a theory of mine. An activity the takes the planet Earth and organizes it with lines and numbers using electronic gadgets tends to attract obsessive compulsive people, like me.
  18. I don't have an iPhone. On Android you can load a gpx file for offline use. Can't you do that on an iPhone? What interests me more is the data charges. The main reason I stick with ATT here in the states is that ATT and T-Mobile are the only carriers with phones usable in Europe. I assumed I could get a sim card over there and get a local phone number for the family to call me. I forgot about data until you mentioned it. I Googled "sim card France data" and it appears that unlimited data is fairly cheap, too me, but I can't read French. A good link: http://www.flyertalk...iphone-4-a.html Have fun. I am jealous.
  19. They don't interfere. I still stand by my previous posts that it is a weakness with the GPSr filters. I am glad to see that LightSuare agrees by saying they have a fix for the GPSs. It is amazing to me that the FCC has been doing fine managing spectrum since Marconi and all of the sudden the FCC engineers are idiots. The misinformation is overwhelming and snow balling and I don't like it at all.
  20. You could try the method I posted for surveyor plot vectors. http://forums.Ground...dpost&p=4793223 Hopefully, you can walk it without getting wet.
  21. I don't have a Montana, but I had a similar problem with a cell phone. The problem turned out to be the case was touching the digitizer unevenly. I had taken it apart to fix something else and I guess I didn't put the LCD back perfectly aligned or some debris got between the case and the screen. I suspect one corner was pushing harder on the screen. Reassembly fixed it. I figured it out when it kept working with the case removed and stopped working when I put the case back on. Maybe the LCD batch mention by Garmin is too thick or the digitizer extends too far. About the serial numbers, there might not be an exact correlation between serial number range and LCD batch number. Especially after refurbishing.
  22. I thought that it had the wrong label when I first saw it. I never thought I would see you doing an urban cache! Are saying someone with a "Fit Brain" wouldn't stick his fingers in dark hole in the city?
  23. I found a big bag of duck decoys on top of one Oregone's caches. Must have been a good hiding place.
