It looks like Street Atlas for a handheld.

Thanks I had the same problem. I tried several times on two e-mail accounts and nothing happened. The next day I got 6 or 7 e-mail confirmation messages.
  3. quote:Originally posted by 1pilot: After about three tries,I got a full download, When I upgrade, do I need to or should I remove the SD card from the unit? Or does it matter? Bob G. I did the upgrade with the SD card in the GPS and my detail map was still there after the upload and the "clear all memory" that was sugested in the install notes. I lost all the waypoint, routes and tracks when clearing memory.

Thanks. It's the nearest cache to my place and is always at the top of my search list. I was just thinking this morning if you can refer to "Fight Club", I can refer to "Texas Chainsaw Massacre"

  10. I see Garmin has a Palm OS license. Has anyone heard any rumors as to when/if there will be a Garmin with Palm features? The Rhino would have been a really cool Palm device. http://www.palmos.com/licensees/garmin/
  11. quote:Originally posted by dylanhayes:snip Expert GPS files seem a bit confusing as I have seen an XML file of waypoints which expert GPS can understand just file, but if I save a route or waypoints with Expert GPS it's in some binary format. Ideally if I can product XML files in the format Expert GPS understands it makes creating the route files for download very easy with SQL Server 2k. When you save a file in EasyGPS if you put a .xml on the end of the file name it saves the file in XML. You can edit the files and even add carriage returns between the fields to make them readable. .ie between > <
  12. My first though was to buy two 32mb cards. One for around home and one for travel. Has anyone tried swapping cards without losing waypoint and route data?
  13. quote:Originally posted by Anders:snip But these GPS units don't have a conventional magnetic needle spinning around in there. Instead, they use something called a fluxgate compass. Since the fluxgate principle, as far as I've understood it, is based upon almost saturating coils, and then measuring the difference the earth's magnetic field causes, it could be that it works with a magnet nearby, as long as that magnet doesn't change its position, relative to the compass. The unit has to be calibrated with the magnet in place, of course. But it could also be that a strong magnet nearby may make it impossible to calibrate, since the current required to saturate the coils may be outside the possible range. snip http://img.Groundspeak.com/user/avatar/24148_200.jpg Anders Wouldn't Hall Effect be cheaper because you already have a semi-conductor chip? What kind of coils saturate? The coils I have seen are linear. I think I read that the Platinum has an electronic bubble display that tells you when it is level. Is that why it needs a 3 axis sensor? I thought you only needed two axis to do NS and EW.
  14. First, Tree Hugger gets mentioned in the WSJ. Now there is a clone: http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.asp?ID=17195 The Fractal legend lives on. The MN site is a couple of miles from where I grew up.

  17. Good article. Since there is only one tree climbing cache it was easy to figure out who Mr Higgins is. See Feb 23 log on Tree Hugger: http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.asp?ID=15249
  18. I can't look at the cache because it is members only now. It's no loss for me because I would NEVER visit one of his caches again. I looked for one of his Rose Festival caches for 2 hours the day he jerked all of the RF caches without warning. No explanations or apologies either.
  19. A lot of calculators have a dms <-> d.xxx convert key. Look for a key labeled o'"
