  1. I just need to add one thing not quite related to ICaching but for those of us that use macs in general. After doing the export from iCaching on the devices that show up in disk mode I always use CleanEject (http://www.javawa.nl/cleaneject_en.html) When I was using my 60CSX it started to lock up due to files dropped on there by OsX.... I just do it as a matter of routine now.
  2. I have been using Icaching since aug 2012 find it quite good . I think a recent API limit changed made things fall apart but thats fixed now, works well with my gpsmap62S and the smart folders to filter caches work well
  3. hmmm I know the OP was asking between 2 specific devices but in the Years since I started Geocaching I have always found a dedicated GPSr to be more accurate, especially if it has a quad Helix antenna like the GPSMAP 62 series that I currently use for caching.. I have always found phones to be less accurate and more bouncy ! I have tried iPhones (3GS, 4, 4S) and today trialled a Moto G (4G) which has quite a reasonable screen in daylight conditions compared to my new MOTO X(too nice for Caching !), the Moto G I trialled had decent mapping thanks to the Memory-Map app here in the UK and using c:geo for offline cache details as cell coverage is appalling in the Yorkshire Dales,,, but under tree cover after a 20 minute search and being bounced around had to resort to the GPSMAP 62s and after 5 minutes had the cache in hand ! I was impressed by the screen size and readability of that particular phone but if I were to upgrade today I would still go for a quad helix'd antenna'd, transflective screened dedicated GPSr...(BTW I used to use a Dell AXIM X5 with a CF GPS and memory-maps for a few years and at the time apart from the fact it wasn't waterproof thought that was a great combo ...until I got a 60CSX)
  4. I am really surprised by the way this has been handled by West Yorkshire Police and the paranoid knee jerk repsponse of requests for cache removal along the route of the A1. Over the years I have been stopped by Police officers several times in and around Leeds (who are part of the same force !) As soon as you say 'I'm geocaching, It's like a modern day treasure hunt using a GPS', the PC's normally already know what it is and depart to let you go about your buisiness. I was even quizzed by Homeland Security whilst searching for a cache in Washington DC and as soon as I said Geocaching everything was fine and friendly and he got back in his car and let me find the cache in peace ..
  5. Not sure I like it . I find in the topic/thread list, the grey scheme too hard to read ,Light greys are very hard to pick out , not enough contrast... I like the collapsable sections but Where are the nice coloured icons for country sections etc ...
  6. Thats funny so did I , But I put it down to including the pq's name in the downloaded gpx's , changed it back to just using the auto generated numeric version and it was fine ... I put it down to the garmin GPS not liking a character in the filename as basecamp would show them ok ...
  7. Mine was ok until today and it just locked up sat in the cradle after just over 1/2hrs driving !! odd because it was used most of yesterday without a glitch (apart from having to change the batteries !!!! ) the only thing I've done is add another couple of GPX's last night ...
  8. Have the lock ups stopped since 2.70 ? I haven't managed to get out since I upgraded mine ....
  9. Mine shut off once when scrolling with 2.50 and since upgrading to 2.60 has completely locked up twice both times it was left on in my pocket whilst travelling in the car, battery removal was needed to turn off !! so I guess it's a bug !! thinking about it mine too was left on the compass screen !!

    Pocket Query

I too have been having troubles getting Pq's emails for logs containing [LOG] Owner: in the subject get through ok but emails with [GEO] Pocket Query: in the subject don't ! I found out that 123-reg have implemented spam filtering and could be deleting emails automatically . So A couple of days ago, I changed it to the lowest setting (happens to be 10) but PQ emails still didn't arrive (even new copied PQ's) So I changed my registered email to point to my ISP email directly , PQ's are now arriving ! 123-reg ... nil points , as It doesn't appear you can turn it off completely !!!
  11. Thanks for your replies I have now arranged to get it swapped out. I had noticed that it stops to think every once in a while too ! So I have taken the precaution of ordering a sandisk premium card to see if it makes any difference and eases the pregnant pauses when the replacement arrives !
  12. Hi How many or your Garmin 60 CSx's just randomly lock up and if they do how often ? Since i got my 60CSx at the very end of August I have had to pull the batteries 4 times after its frozen and doesn't respond to key presses.... I have been wondering if its faulty or if its an incompatability with the memory card (sandisk 2GB ) ? Also ... Has it ever refused to navigate off road ie, told it to navigate to a poi off road but it's tracked to the nearest road ?
  13. I use an HTC kaiser. It has an inbuilt gps(which can be a little erratic ) and I use opera , it works great ,tons better than pie.... Have a look on the xda-developer.com forums ... Infact I used opera to reply to your post whilst sitting out in the garden
  14. Well done You can't be into Halo3 yet.....
  15. Just a quick addition to yesterdays post.. I was out yesterday evening using just the o2 stellar (no backup devices with me to fall back on !) It performed very well, GPS was spot on in MM v5 and as the sun wasn't blazing from directly above the screen was usable. Opera mobile works really well. You can upload pictures with it where as MS PIE won't let you.... Tom Tom works as does GPXsonar... the only drawback its relatively fragile compared to a pucker GPS....
  16. The htc TYTN II=kaiser = an 02 Stellar = eyc,etc I have just started to use it for caching. 1st observation is that the screen is useless in direct sunlight ! I have had a GPS problem (manifested itself in BEELINE GPS ) where it blurted sentences out paused for approx 7 seconds and then blurted more out, but this seems fine in mmv5 (plus i've updated the rom [] ) cheers Page28 to checkout the Kaiser in more detail http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Kaiser
  17. Hi Can anybody help to move on my Travel bug ? it's stuck in PILL BOX which gas been archived ! http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...9d-f1bf8dfc7163 thanks
  18. I use gsak to populate my memory maps with waypoints before I export them to my pda. I use skull and crossbones for archived caches and the red flag for caches not found by me. You can also export to TOM TOM as poi .. I also find the get data via email usefull, and filters for caches upto a fixed distance from loacations that I Visit so that i can export as a street atlas file to import into Vito navigator I'm probably not using it as fully as I could as I don't populate it with field notes !
  19. mikahe I have Downloaded the trial version it looks quite good...Since you have used it do you know... is there a limit to the number of waypoints that you can have in a gpx file, the import data dialog just sits there when i try it on a 3Mb file. if i use gsak to generate a smaller one 10-20 entries it takes very little time...
  20. Just a general request to see if anybody has come across geocaching software that you can use on a symbian series 60 phone , ie a Nokia 6600 or a 6630. I know that TomTom works well on the Nokia phones with a bluetooth GPS and that got me wondering . My phone goes with me everywhere so it would be to use that for caching.......
  21. A BIG THANKYOU for the Congratulations.
  22. Hi I have an Axim with a Nokia 6310i and a cheap no name compact flash Bluetooth card to talk to the phone. The Axim has wm2003 which is a pain. I had to hack registry settings on the axim to get the drivers to work with the Bluetooth card.... It's a bit of a minefield.. I have considered trying to downgrade to ppc2002 on the axim as the bluetooth software/drivers are known to work reliably....(WM2003 regularly locks up after terminating a call and i have to do a reset) I Use it to browse the web and check my o2 email mostly via my freeserve dialup at weekendsas I have an offpeak tarrif.
  23. Really nice part of the world up there. I wish I could get up there....WE ( the family) were up there ( Balchrick) at Easter. If only I could find a way to live up there
  24. ECM has in the past month had 2 of his caches emptied of the contents and placed back with just the log book. weird....why re-hide it! I myself have had my Ilkley moor multi-cache part 1 destroyed but due to going on Holiday haven't had chance to check on part 2 and if it's still there re hide part 1. It's hardly the easiest places to get to so it makes one wonder !!!!
