  1. It happens fast... By the time you say "glitch" you are completely logged out and back to the login screen. When you check the lists the downloaded content is erased.
  2. The app version is 9.15.0 (2046). The first glitch occurred ~11/9, the second time ~11/20.
  3. You can create lists in geocaching.com. On your smartphone you then download the contents of the list so you can use it when you work offline. When that download is complete, the green check mark that indicates the content for that list was fully downloaded and is available offline. I use lists when I go caching in remote areas with no or no adequate cell coverage. In the last two weeks the following anomaly occurred. It happened TWICE now and it is very disruptive: 1. Content of selected lists was downloaded. The green check mark is shown. All worked on the app as intended.(Preparation phase) 2. While in the field geocaching.... at a random time: GLITCH! The geocaching app on the phone shut off, then came back on. I was logged out and needed to login again. 3. Once logged in, the content of the downloaded lists were no longer there. The green check mark that indicates a list was fully downloaded and available was also erased. Note: the lists are still there, however the content of dowloaded lists were erased. If you are working in the field, offline, you have no access to the content. Other info: Apple iPhone iOS 16.1.1 on iPhone 13 Pro Max If anyone else experienced this glitch or bug, please add information.
  4. When I read the original post it does not say why this is capability is removed. I dances around stuff. The clarification offered by @Bl4ckH4wkGER likely provides a more accurate reason for removing or adjusting the benchmarking asset. It appears to be associated with webpage coding which has become obsolete and needs to be rebuilt. Plenty of companies go through an effort of rebuilding legacy tools that were first developed in the early 2000's, to current programming standards. I recommend HQ updates the original post to include some of the information provided by @Bl4ckH4wkGER. Good communication builds understanding and trust. Thank You.
  5. If you have an event at a place where there are, for example, a traditional or a WP1 for a traditional, your Red Event Icon will not be visible. It will be displayed behind any other nearby icons. So if you look at the map you may not see it until you zoom in far enough, even then you may not see the icon. Yes, you can search for events, and the event calendar is shown as well, etc. but if you are far away from your home location you just peek at maps to get a quick indication. This is about looking at the map in a general area and take a quick peek if there is an event. There are plenty cachers that do not notice these "hidden" events but would have liked to attend. Is there a way to prioritize the display so that events are always displayed "on top"?
  6. Webcams are hard to come by. Cachers try to get as many icons in a single day, especially during MEGA or GIGA events. During these events we see special icons, such as discover Signal, reverse cache. What would it take to have an "event webcam" that is active during the event only? Wouldn't it be exciting to have an "event cam" just for the day?
  7. As a lab cache owner I set the zone where you have to be in order to be shown the question that you need to answer. Keeping track of who is completing this lab cache, I found the following users that are not located in and did not visit the geographical area, but logged one or more of the lab caches. So how is this possible, and how do they circumvent that "you have get closer to the location" requirement? In other words, how do they get access to the questions and how can they log the lab cache if they are hundreds of miles away and the lab cache zone is 1 mile or less? Users logging lab caches without visiting them: Harleywaa, thedoglady, cachesucher2523, Kuku28, Die Lu.Tze AG. Take a look at their accounts, their number of found lab caches seems unusual. For example, Kuku28 found over 3000 lab caches, and only about a 1000 other caches. What's the trick?
  8. I have been developing an Adventure Cache "Douglas Airplane Factory" in Long Beach, California (to be published soon) and really like the idea of combining this with a physical cache. An adventure cache in this case much performs like a multi where you visit one or more waypoints, answer questions and get responses in a Journal. Those responses can be partial or full coordinates, or in my case, I opted to provide letterbox instructions detailing where the hide is located. I tested it in the field and it works smooth, and the Journals collect all the answers and info, so you don't have to write things down as you visit waypoints. At the very end, you just review the collection of journals and may write down some of the information to solve for the physical cache. Cachers often balk at multi's that have more than two waypoints, but this Adventure Lab is a nice way to give awards (smilies) for each stage. Current drawbacks (things that may need slight improvement): (1) Journal messages are limited to 140 characters. Maybe this should be 200. (2) it takes a couple of tries to get the pictures to turn out the way you want them, this is because the app crops them in a weird way. It has been fun to develop the adventure lab, but as with any other quality cache, it also takes some dedication. Now, what do you think: The possibilities for Adventure Caches in a way are endless. Should these become an option to create multi's? Should every stage/waypoint earn a smilie, or only certain stages as determined by the cache owner?
  9. On the cache "preview", can you add the date the cache was placed? Currently it only shows when the cache was last logged. When you add the "placed date" it will do 2 things: (1) show the event date if the cache is an event (2) the placed date for non-event caches. I am aware the recent activity is shown in the same column but it would be more efficient to see certain info together "at a glance" rather than in different screen locations. As a previous commenter noted, the "last logged" does not mean anything since it can be any log like a note, DNF, Found, Maintenance etc. "last found" is more appropriate.
  10. I ran into the same issue once and since then I have done the following: 1) changed my geocaching queries so that the results were more specific and smaller (e.g. query change range from 10 miles to 5 miles, limit items found from 500 to 300, for example) 2) upload maximum of 3 GPX queries on the GPS, totalling no more than 4-5MB 3) after unplugging, start up to see if the Geocaches actually show in the list, so there is no surprise in the field.
  11. did you get FATAL APPLICATION ERRORS? If yes, search for that and you'll find more.
  12. looks like your GPS hasn't shown "FATAL APPLICATION ERROR" on your screen yet. Search for this in the blog and you'll get a bit more info too. I am at my third magellan explorist GC and I have lost confidence in this product.
  13. Same issue here. In December 2011 uploaded a few GPX files from the Seattle/Puget sound area. The 11 month old unit would not start up and gets the Fatal Application Error in the Compass.exe file of my Magellan Explorist GC v. 1.7. Called Magellan, after 45 minutes on the phone and trying a variety of things got a return authorization to swap the unit (Magellan was very helpful and their customer service was great). Now I have a brand new unit, just out of the box, version 1.8 and guess what. Tranferred just one gpx and just one wpts file from a "Issaquah" query and the unit is corrupt. Fatal Application Error in the Compass.exe file. Unable to start the brand new unit. On the first unit I thought I disconnected the unit a bit too early from the PC (it may have been in the midst of processing stuff) but on this new unit I made sure everything was closed. Apparantly, it didn't matter. This is what I did to bring it back to pre-gpx condition: 1) removed batteries, shut down unit. 2) connect unit to PC. Eventually it gave a message "connecting as mass storage unit". this allowed me to look at the APP files - none had been updated. The compass.exe file was not changed. 3) in geocaches folder went and deleted the GPX file Ijust uploaded 4) in waypoint folder deleted the wpts file I just uploaded. 5) disconnected unit. 6) restart unit. Went straight to menu... appears normal. 7) unable to send indidual gpx files to GPS from geocaching website. note: pc operates on windows vista...
