1. Anyone know any roadmap for Verizon to start supporting Geo applications? What work arounds are available?

    I'm not sure that it's up to a cellular carrier to "support" a geocache application, unless I'm understanding what your are asking.

    There are numerous geocaching applications that will run on Verizon phones. Verizon offers Blackberries, Android Phones and Windows Mobile phones. There are numerous geocaching applications that will run on each of these operating systems. You don't need a work-around. Just pick an app, load it and use it. The only phones which might not be cache application suitable would be the non-smartphones with the proprietary OS's.

    Are you looking for applications for your phone? If you want suggestions, tell us what type you have.

  2. :P I have been using Easy gps for years to convert the downloaded Loc files and transfer them to my GPS. Recently I have noticed that the loc files still contain all of the data description of the cache but the fields for the positional data are full of zeros.

    Unless I'm misunderstanding what you're doing, loc files downloaded by clicking the "loc waypoint file" button on a cache page will download a loc, but that file does not "contain all of the data description". By data decription, do you mean the long narrative on the cache page? The loc just contains the cache name and ID, coordinates, type, and the url of the cache description.

    I downloaded a .loc file using a Basic member account, and the positional data is still there. I'm not sure what the issue is.

    Here are the contents of a loc:

    <loc version="1.0" src="Groundspeak">

    <waypoint>

blue Bird Cache by 01123581321

    <coord lat="40.71595" lon="-74.359183"/>

    <type>Geocache</type>

    </waypoint></loc>

  3. Wrong folder. Needs to go in the Garmin/GPX folder.

    It may be different on a Colorado, but on an Oregon, you can create folders underneath \GPX, and the caches still display, so I don't know if this suggestion will work or not. For example, I created a folder with my name at \Garmin\GPX\Myname and put my PQs in \Myname. Works just fine.

    Give it a shot. If it works, great.

  4. You need to delete the .gpx file that contains the cache(s) you wish to delete. This needs to be done via computer and cannot be done on the device itself.

    Your question suggests that you are not grouping caches into a PQ, which is the preferred method of loading caches onto that GPS. There is additional detail in the wiki fegan referred you to.

    BTW, using ALL CAPS is considered shouting in forum etiquette, and generally considered rude.

  5. First, make sure that you are running the latest official firmware for your 450. I have a an Oregon 400 and had to upgrade my firmware because older versions didn't support custom maps. I'm not sure which firmware version you need as a minimum, but you should be good to go if you upgrade to the latest official one.

    You need to create a \Garmin\CustomMaps directory and place the maps in \CustomMaps. I place my maps in this directory on the Garmin, but my understanding is that it will work on the SD card as well so long as the folder structure is correct. Custom maps have a .kmz extension. You don't need any special tool to copy them over. Just copy the .kmz files to the \CustomMaps directory using Windows Explorer.

    Once the maps are loaded, you should go to Setup, Map, Map Information. You'll see an entry for Custom Maps. Click on it to enable it for your current profile. All custom maps have to be enabled at the same time. I don't think there is any way to pick and chose . . . it's all or nothing.

  6. The Oregon x50 is NOT ruggedized enough to go geocaching! Mine was "cracked" after 3 months and until now i do not know how it happens.

    Go for 62s.

    I have accidentally left my Oregon outside in the rain overnight without an issue. To me, that's rugged!

    (ps. If you have to know, I was trying to get that elusive WAAS lock and forgot about it.)

  7. We're new at this and need some help. We purchased the premium membership and want those advantages for our Garmin and iPhone. Is there a way to get it? We have the app on the iPhone for geocaching. Thanks

    Is there a way to get "what"? Not sure I understand your question.

    I purchased the premium membership. Later I purchased the iPhone and bought the app for geocaching. I can't get premium caches to find on my iPhone.

    Can you give an example of which premium cache you think you should be seeing on your phone? And what is your location when you are doing that query?

  8. I have separate profiles for Car Navigation and Geocaching. The car navigation has the track set to lock on the road and the geocaching doesn't. I actually have a couple for geocaching to vary the map type. Sometimes I cache with a topo map, but sometimes I prefer the street map.

  9. They are all stored in this folder:

    \garmin\gpx\

    In that folder you'll find the PQ (gpx) files that contain the caches. To remove the cache, delete the gpx that contains it..

    Your question suggests that you're loading caches from the cache web page individually. You really ought to consider loading your GPS by generating a pocket query containing a number of caches. Then all you have to do is copy that PQ gpx the the \garmin\gpx folder. It will then be easy to easily remove unwanted caches by deleting or updataing those gpx's.
