  1. Then again, making it a puzzle would help make sure anyone finding it reads the description. Since Geomates apparently don't load unknowns, the failure to load descriptions is a moot point. The fact that all believe in "Take something, leave something" is at the heart of this issue. This isn't a case of "took something, left nothing". This is a case of "took something the CO didn't want someone to take unless they left something in the same theme". (it was originally please don't take the items at all)
  2. I think you're missing the point of making it unknown. Sbell, as well as I and a few others, suggested this because it forces the finder to actually read the listing before getting the coordinates to the cache. The cache is new, so isn't loaded onto a Geomate. BUT. It does fit the criteria to be loaded on a Geomate. (So could well be in the near future) Geomates DO NOT have any cache descriptions... I'm not sure what point you are trying to make. If you're saying that even if it's an unknown that Geomate will still load it without the description, then that is kind of the point. The Geomate might load the coordinates. But if it was made into an unknown, then he could put bogus coords for the listing and put the real coords along with the special request in the description. If someone loaded a bunch of coords, they would not be able to find the cache because it wouldn't be at the coords listed. They would HAVE to read the cache page to get the real coords. Of course, the simplest and probably best solution is to put the special items in a bag in the cache with a note explaining what they were and how the CO wanted them to be treated.

  4. I'm not having a problem with pictures not loading. Perhaps you blocked them unintentionally with adblock or something similar. First, try a different browser. If the pages load fine, then go back to your other browser and disable any scripting or blocking addons you may have installed and try again.
  5. Just noticed you are new. In case you don't know about Pocket Queries, you can find them here: http://www.geocaching.com/pocket/default.aspx And markwell has a tutorial here: http://www.markwell.us/pq.htm
  6. You can create a PQ based on caches hidden in the last 7 days.
  7. Then we're right back at the ALR guideline. *** I know you were kidding.
  8. I'm not sure what to call this activity that we love so much. But calling it a game is appropriate. Not all games keep score or have winners. Some are designed strictly to pass time. (hot lava and leapfrog come to mind)
  9. I better not catch you using one of those around my cache. I know for a fact Ellilydan would frown on anyone using a machete also. Doesnt using a machete make it easier to take your next victims head? Must ... not... respond..... Keystone.... watching...... I can't really go all ballistic on SwineFlew for using a machete. The reason is that if not geocaching, there are a lot of instances where the use of a machete would be just fine. There is a good argument that if you're just chopping back briars and/or grass, that it will grow back. You're not doing any permanent damage. However, geocaching changes things. We suffer from a perception problem. Unwise use of sharp, pointy things in the past has resulted in geocaching being banned in some areas. There has been an uphill battle to fight that perception ever since and to get certain land managers to allow geocaching because of it. So while I will not admonish anyone for using a machete, I will highly encourage those that have used them while geocaching to please refrain from doing so in the future.
  10. An actual signature doesn't either unless you have a handwriting expert comparing the signatures. It all comes back to geocaching having its basis in the honor system.
  11. By the same token, someone could also just have their buddy sign their name to a cache. I don't see allowing stickers or stamps as being in conflict with the signing guideline.
  12. Sorry that you misunderstand me. What I am saying that he was wrong for thinking I am not trolling. Thanks for the clarification. I know (or am at least very confident) that you are not trolling because I know of at least one other popular cacher that uses a machete. I'm just glad to see that it's not common in the area.
  13. Change is great if it is genuine.Like a Blue Bandanna! You're not digging the new look? It is not genuine! Well, not THIS look. But I've been using Just For Men on my beard. You like it? I'm indifferent, but I'm sure the boys down in San Francisco love the fact that you're a "Just for Men" user.... Oh dude, I couldn't resist.... They probably prefer me in my rainbow buff. (or just plain in the buff)

  15. I turned mine off. It was annoying after the first few caches to have to click the popup out of the way so I could see the compass again.
  16. Is this you saying that the post is "Not Interesting" ? or are you just really into Monty Python? Am I limited to only one choice?
  17. True dat! Everything I leave in my caches is written off the moment I mark the coords and walk away. Although, in the cache owner's defense, they never even hinted at people not taking stuff. What they did, (naively), was ask "Please do not remove the items unless you trade similar Revolutionary War artifacts/items". I'm betting the cache owner is someone like myself, who reads every cache page, and assumes, unlike myself, that other cachers do the same thing. He's updated the listing. I just deleted my note since it now looks very clear what his intentions are.
  18. One more Ni outta you and I'm calling the IRS. Oops! I better hold my N... cause my disguise is at the cleaners.

  20. I didn't bash you. I simply stated that your idea might be taken seriously if you posted it under your real account. "Keeping score" is a hot topic issue around here. Your posts indicate that you are well aware of more than just a fleeting knowledge of this site and these forums. I am more than open to newbies with ideas, if they are genuine newbies. But when the posts contain several key hot topic words that appear to be geared to the type of discussion that this one has turned into, then I'm sorry, but I get suspicious. Your rant against Toz is where it actually went sour when you bashed him because you thought he disagreed with your idea. That reinforced my suspicions. In that same bashing, you stated that you've been caching longer than the rest of us. If this is true, then you are clearly not a newbie.
  21. But, I just bought a brand new bottle of bleach. I guess I'll have to go do my own laundry.
