  1. Do TPTB intend for you to be eating popcorn in their forums?
  2. Nahh. Fill 'em up with flares, matches, and fill the rest of the void with gasoline. I don't care what you do or what you find in your sock drawer.
  3. I just caught this on a reread. Perhaps this is where we actually differ. You believe a cache owner gets to define what a find is. Because I believe that the defacto definition of a find is a signed logbook, I believe a cache owner gets to define what exceptions he will allow.
  4. If that was their intention, they would have stated it more precisely. I have long agreed this is not their intention. The CO should have the right to allow a find if the person logging could not sign the logbook or if a team name was signed and the finder is logging individually, et.. It would be impossible for them to police this anyway. But I still contend that it is their intention that finders sign the logbook. Again, I completely agree. There is actually a relatively small percentage of CO's with control issues who even bother to check the logbook and reconcile signatures in the logbook with the online finds. The problem is that even if the finder has a legitimate reason for not signing the log, TPTB are not going to reinstate that log. Without a signature, the finder is at the mercy of the CO. Hopefully, that CO is not a control freak. While it does not define the only instance that a Found It log can be used, it is pretty much the defacto definition of a find. With the removal of the ALRs, it's the only enforceable definition anyway. By enforceable, I mean that the only find log TPTB will restore is one in which the finder has signed the logbook. This does not, however, negate the fact that a CO can allow online finds in cases where the finder could not sign the logbook or when a team name was used, etc.. Agreed I have to disagree with you here. They shouldn't have carte blanche, but they do. A sig in the logbook is the only reason I am aware of for which TPTB will restore a find log. 100% agree with you. As I have said a number of times, this game depends on the kindness and respect of others. Above all, it is meant to be fun. If common sense had been used to begin with, we would still have some fun ALR caches.
  5. Mine would be strictly for the fun factor. So I would probably attach a key along with the lock picking tools.
  6. Now why didn't I think of that. I think a lot of folks would love to try their hand at picking a lock.
  7. I'm pretty sure you can't blame that one on vampire rats.
  8. Wouldn't the difficulty depend on the lock, though? A single pin lock wouldn't really require specialized knowledge. Depending on the padlock, special skill isn't required either. You can google shims and have a tool fashioned in about 5 minutes. I also considered a cache using a lockable SquareD box (cammoed to look like a Geocaching Monitoring Station) with all the pins removed. Essentially it would look locked, but one just needs to insert something as a tension bar and turn the lock. Cool idea either way.
  9. I've thought about doing this myself. Just to make it easier, I figured I would remove all but one of the tumblers. But I'm just not sure how popular it would be or how many people actually possess the skills needed. The only problem with a cache like this is that in some states it is illegal to carry lock picking tools.
  10. Now there's a word you don't see very often in these forums. I like it!Wow! Get that excited by the word, 'quote' does ya? Astounding. Don't mind me. Just fixing the quotey thingies.
  11. When I go for what should be an FTF, after all it was published yesterday and no online log, and find a signature in the log I simply rip that page out of the log and go home and log the FTF. Let that other fool try to claim a FTF when his signature is not in the log. That will teach them.
  12. FTF is not an official stat. FTF need not even post an online log. If you're hopping out of bed and driving 20 miles for a FTF, then perhaps you have bigger issues than getting second to find.
  13. I realize the search function is pretty much useless. But please at least skim the first page. There is an active topic on this subject.
  14. What chemical reaction would give off chlorine gas from hydrochloric acid? What chemical reaction would give off chorine gas from hydrochloric acid? NaClO + 2 HCl → H2O + NaCl + Cl2 2 KMnO4 + 16 HCl → 2 MnCl2 + 8 H2O + 2 KCl + 5 Cl2 Not normally found in rocks, I believe. And with HF, would likely liberate chlorine or fluorine as well (it's been some time since chemistry class). Anyway, not important - unless someone can confirm that it is a good idea to use acid to create large holes in rocks. What's with echoing me, pirate guy? Do I have to search the off topics forum for the explanation? (somehow I think I know how he's going to reply...) Did I echo you?
  15. What chemical reaction would give off chlorine gas from hydrochloric acid? What chemical reaction would give off chorine gas from hydrochloric acid? NaClO + 2 HCl → H2O + NaCl + Cl2 2 KMnO4 + 16 HCl → 2 MnCl2 + 8 H2O + 2 KCl + 5 Cl2 Isn't that how you get chlorine gas?
  16. What chemical reaction would give off chlorine gas from hydrochloric acid? What chemical reaction would give off chorine gas from hydrochloric acid?
  17. Interesting that you earn a FAIL at forum searching. There goes my bye bye theory.
  18. Take a look at the User on the Published Log Entry. Nothing nefarious here. Looks like a common garden variety mistake to me. Interesting that nobody mentioned it before. Now that could be nefarious I didn't say there was anything nefarious going on. But the other cache was published in 2005. I'm wondering how in the world this one slipped by the reviewer. He must have just not noticed the other cache when he updated the coordinates.
  19. Wouldn't 1,644.3 feet require a reviewer's intervention?
  20. 57' apart is practically on top of each other. Both by the park service or at least on behalf of the park service. But I foresee one of those going bye bye soon.
  21. Sounds like your friend is just making up excuses to dis your hobby.
  22. I think that TPTB could seriously care less. So you are saying that TPTB really care about the issue. We do agree.
