  1. I'll add stinging nettle to the list! feels like being stung by 1000 bees. for posion ivy-have been fairly lucky and not had any bad cases. have seen several hides right in the posion ivy tree! not everyone knows what it looks like!
  2. biggest thing keeping me from caching is work. other issues-currently vehicle problems. truck needs some tlc. good thing my friends like to drive. my dog is enrolled in many classes-so that takes away cache time! also, don't like caching by myself.
  3. in my area-we started a group and post online when someone is going out. we've gotten to where we mostly cache in a group now. saves on gas!! look for a local caching group and events are a great place to meet other cachers as suggested above.
  4. have seen 3 mailbox hides. one in the woods another clearly stated it's a geocache and not in line with all the other mailboxes that get mail. the third one is archived, I think. it was mag. keyholder on the mailbox.
  5. since he took th $2.00 lottery ticket-he may have won and got a H1 anyway. might have found the treasure he wanted!
  6. as far as the review process for new caches-the reviewer (which is typically keystone for my area) and I haven't had much problems. some minor learning curve things. as stated in many posts-give lots of info. about the cache to the reviewer in the notes. I try to leave property manager whom approved cache, items about the area-esp in a cemetery, etc. didn't feel the process was too strict. glad they're checking up on what I'm trying to do. most of my caches are placed on dcnr property which requires permits for 3 years with possible renewal. the reviewer on gc.com is also checking known land manager rules. review process on other sites may not include that extra check. I've talked with dcnr people and they haven't pulled the letterboxes out of moraine but they're not happy about them. as far as the reviewer checking on the cache-they might be and you don't know it! I know some of mine have been found by reviewers under their acct they use to play. there's one that hasn't been found yet and zoie's still not talking!!
  7. so far to my knowledge haven't had ticks latch onto me-but my dog is a different story. she's a west highland white terrier and the ticks love her. just pulled 5 off of her after hiking in jefferson county, pa for agt caches. she's vaccinated for lyme ever year. was asking about ticks on her at our animal response team meeting last night. our resident vet recommends advantex. I think someone in this thread said something about spraying the dog with bug spray/deet-is that safe for the dog?? just asking. these ticks are a serious problem for zoie-she's not happy with me pulling them out of her. I don't want to have to start leaving her home cause of ticks. she gets both on her-those little deer ticks are a bugger to pull out.
  8. puppyman, I think you got any of mine near NCT in pa. planning on hiding some new ones-will let you know if they end up close to NCT. rhelt's streamy, streamy I think is on NCT-it's a newer cache.
  9. I'll probably be caching in N.Y. on the way to or from GW7 if it happens on the east coast as rumored.... If you (or anyone) don't wanna wait.... Just send a self addressed stamped envelope to: Snoogans c/o PRESS Your Luck! P.O. Box 516 Missouri City, Texas 77459-0516 And I'll send you one of my highly prized (in my mind) siggys.... I only check my P.O. box about once a month so give it at least 4 weeks. Improper postage on your SASE is not my problem..... Or you can get one in person at GW6. I collect smashed pennies and would send you a SASE. how much postage is required-the standard rate? thanks.
  10. rhelt100 and purplekv both made their 2k cache umbrella rock (western pa). what a great cache if you're ever in the area! on the way to umbrella-we stopped at manfromvan and east sandy creek multi. we also stopped at deer rock-great scenic hike among evergreen trees!
  11. longest hike round trip for a cache so far is about 3 1/2 mile round trip. would like to try the racoon sp one-it looks good! def. on the to do list. longest I've hiked in one day is 6 miles in oil creek sp-wasn't for a cache at the time.
  12. last year we had earth day cito at Moraine State Park. set up different areas for geocachers and scouts (both boy/girl scouts). worked out well. the cachers were in a disconnected area that needed more attention then the main park area. the scouts did the 'lighter' clean up and played games, learned about trash from pa cleanways interactive boards. event went over well. also had scouts at a regular cito in a local park and they enjoyed learning about geocaching from the cachers that were there. most scout groups need to do so many community service projects, so inviting them is usually a good thing! some things to keep in mind-adult/child ratio, permission slips, liability, etc.
  13. from the other thread with no coin-not looking good for shirts either! anyone know?
  14. no coin-really? man-they make the best prize for our cito.
  15. agree-no fees! they're donating their time which is very valuable. just feed them-maybe give them a new cache or two to find. can ask for donations-some will bring items you can use for prizes.
  16. it's possible geocaching will be part of the Moraine SP Lake Arthur Regatta. I'm in charge of children's activities for the regatta-and it'll be part of their activities at some point! The person in charge of land is thinking about setting something up for adults. I've made good contacts with the park so someday could see a class taught at Moraine or McConnell's Mills! The park is getting GPS'rs so that'll make putting on a class easier. they should have them by the regatta.
  17. weeknight events are sometimes hard to get people to attend. for me mon and tue are dog classes and wed is meetings. if you have something thur-might be able to attend. weeknights are rough! good luck.
  18. as a cache hider-I try and make them all different. some short hikes, some longer hikes, different size containers, etc. wouldn't want anyone to catch on!! prob. the only thing in common with most of them is near water.
  19. guyute1210 mentioned most of all my favorites. cathedral rocks, freedom falls, beer well, etc. would add: victory iron furnace, bullion iron furnace, denison overlook mystery, southern half (all venango county) git r dunn, sunken garden trail (butler county). sts ridge trail vista (potter county) is one of my all time favorites.
  20. best we did was 56 caches in 12hours. so sounds doable! good luck!!!
  21. for querries-have been using either guyute's or h20bob's list sometimes paracers. sometimes search with keyword. have also used the geotrail website to get to the cache I'm looking for. thanks for the project. has been fun. hope the results are favorable as far as promoting tourism and spending money in those counties. I'm planning on some summer trips back to these counties. potter is ranked as one of my favorites along with venango. my favorite caches so far have been in these 2 counties.
  22. glad to see chickadee posting on here. yep-enjoying the geotrail. have 1.33333 counties left. hope to finish crawford-need 2. then jefferson to get the 6 min. for all counties. plan to go back to all these counties and cache some more. if you're in potter county-austin campground was very nice - had the cleanest nicest campground bathrooms I've seen and shower water was hot. they are pet friendly and priced very cheap. plan to stay there again in the warmer months. since the trail is about tourism-thought I should post about where we stayed! the campgound is very close to austin dam agt for a reference point.
  23. thanks for the link. one of the former scouts adopted the cache.
  24. thank you. send a request for adoption to one of the girls in the troop.
  25. quick question-how does one put a cache up for adoption? my girl scout troop was forced to disband and they have a cache in their name. I'd like to put it up for adoption so one of the former girls can move ownership into her name for maint. Thanks!
