  1. Erika - opps I have installed various maps on my unit, however realizing extensive more space was consumed, I'd like to remove a map. Is there a way to remove maps through Basemap? or Mapsource? Thanks, One thing I forgot to add is the when the unit is powered on it displayed the map is locked. I've attempted to load this map, hence why I'd l ike it removed.
  2. Everyone thank you for replying - I'm embarased to say that The basemap has not been removed. The issue was "Me" lol a user error. The zoom in and zoom out "page in" page out" button. I was zoomed right out of the map. bare with me, I'm understanding the technology and geocaching society. :-( Thank you thank you for your replies.
  3. Alright, Wondering if someone who has the same unit or there as educated can give me a hand. I'd like to get started in Geocashing. Pocket Queries, I understand - Download the GPX file and you can transfer it to your gps unit. As many geocachers are aweare there is a build in "paperless geocache" option. that allows you to log your find, add your comment and the go back home, and download the data from your gps unit (GPSMAP 62s) which then I gather adds the option to uploading it directly to the geocaching.com web site. My question is what package should I use for this? I'm presently looking at Easygps, the issue i'm having with easy gps is it doesn't download the full data when I find is completed. It doesn't show the completed find, or the comment for a particular cache. please please help. I'm really new to the hobby. Jason
  4. Happy Xmas everyone. Santa bought a new Garmin GPS 62s. Somehow or other I managed to stupidly delete the internal default basemap? is the base map required if I'm gonna update the map to a Topo of North America or Canada? and such? Is it essential basically to have? How do I retrieve or reinstall the basemap? Garmins web site is horribly slow and theres no information available for this particular subject/ issue. Thanks,
  5. Thanks for reply: Good information for sure!!! Where else could I get a hold of good quality topo maps for no charge? I was on the garmin web site, and it looks like aparently you have the otpion to purchase maps and download them directly onto the unit via usb connection.
  6. Purchasing a Garmin GPSMAP 62s has been in my thoughts. Could someone or please help me understand the following: 1. Does one need to purchase an MicroSD card for downloads ( purchasing) from the Garmin web site? 2. Can I simply use the main memory on the unit itself without an SDCard? Thanks alot for your input, and Merry Xmas. Jason
  7. Is there a link someone could direct me to for the rules and guidlines for geocashing?
  8. I'm new to Geocashing and I've been reading about maps and sizes? what exactly does the scale size mean ike 50k maps, or 25k? I realize they represent the size but does that also mean details within the map? I may be Purchasing additional maps or downloading them would be for a Garmin GPSMAP 62s or St that I may be possibly purchasing. Please if someone could expalin the scales t hat would be great and helpful.
  9. AH okay. So its only segments the majority of the time your able to install without decreasing your memory significantly. So for example, if one has the topo of Canada. You would simply install the topo for Ontario if you wish for your journey, depending on your memory expantion aswell? Correct me on this if I'm wrong. To through a bit of another question in here, I've been reading about 50k topo's. Does the mean the elevation or the details that are displayed?
  10. they don't take much if you load them by where you are going. i have all of MB and part of ON on mine and i stil l have 6+GB on my memory card (it's an 8gb). you could probably load ALL of canada Garmin TOPO CANADA on an 8GB and still have room left over. i think i paid $14.99 for a Kingston Micro SD with adapter at Dell.ca with free shipping when it was on sale. Ok. So reglardless with the Canadian maps or US / North america loaded on the St version you still would require and SD card if I"m right? Hey, thanks for the help!. this is great.
  11. Interesting how the S model has more memor then the St. Sometehing to investigate. Thanks for the responses, this really assists with a decission. Out of thought, how much memory is consumed with the average map? is it alot of memory space thats required like for example North America? Jason :-)
