  1. Well, postage rates in the US just went up AGAIN, but it appears we shouldn't complain too much. If I order one patch, it will cost me $3.05 shipping; if I order 5, shipping is $3.22; and if I order 20, shipping is $4.07! According to usps.com, if I stick one of these in an envelope and ship it to Europe or even as far as New Zealand, if it weighs less than 2 ounces, it'll cost me $1.74; up to 3 ounces costs $2.54. So, I was going to order one, but I'll hold off placing my order for a few days. Anyone who wants to order one, but can't get a decent shipping rate from the shop, just let me know, and I'll order it for you!

The Pocket Decoders went on sale Friday the 16th. Because this is an "open stock" item, we thought 800 coins would be plenty to start with, well....we guessed wrong! The reason that we had the "updating inventory" message up is that when ever you have a crazy sale like this there will be folks who place double orders, or others who cancel for one reason or another. When this happens, and coins become available, we add them back into the inventory and if you happen to be "lurking" at the right time, you'll score :D

We will be placing another order ASAP - and we will most likely add a "pre-order" page for those who want to make sure they get one in the next batch. Please understand the production time for this coin is 48 + days. We are also placing the order for the 2nd series center wheel, it will also be available to "per order" all of the details will be posted in the 'other' Pocket Decoder' thread once we have the details.

Checked the Cachingplace.com seems the decoders are sold out. - Anyone know when I can order one?

See the above quote. Maybe you will get lucky and grab one that is added back into the inventory!

They said they thought their initial order of 800 would last a little longer in the store. (Apparently, these are more popular than they expected! Go figure!) Anyway, they will be placing another order very soon, probably doing a pre-sale. Then it will take about 48 days for the coins to arrive at their shop. They do plan on keeping these in stock in their shop.

Edited because I'm not paying attention:

Oh, duh! I just quoted what they (The Caching Place) quoted!

So, I'll go quietly back to my corner and patiently wait for mine to arrive in the mail! :D

I got mine in yesterday. Pretty cool, and I like that you will be able to swap out the center wheel.

I'd say not to activate it unless you're planning to set it free to travel. Some people don't like to buy or trade activated coins and since you can't easily (if not next to impossible) unactivate it, there isn't much of a benefit to activate the coin. the only thing activating would do for you is to help prove ownership if you lost the coin or it got stolen. I've heard some people say that they activate their coins if they are going to take them to shows in case they fall out of a binder or something. My opinion - don't activate.

Thanks for the tip. In order to get an activation code for this coin I have to enter some info on their website. Will this activate my coin or just give me a code to activate it?

You go to TheCachingPlace.com to retrieve your activation code. To actually activate it, you go to Geocaching.com, click on "Trackable Items", then "Activate Trackable Item".

  4. Tiki, you're work is exquisite! I would definitely like to purchase one. Random color works for me, and I like the idea of a notch or hole for hanging.

    :P

  5. Wow, that's a neat list, incredible how many there are! Is the World Travel geocoin the only one with a moving icon? I'm working on a Trackable Icons Challenge cache here in central Florida, and I can't find any of those around to discover. Anyone wanna trade a World Travel geocoin for my personal? :)

The artwork on some of those icons is incredible.

  6. Castle Man is generously donating a CF coin and pin set to be auctioned! The entire winning auction amount will be donated to the Sage's Dragons team, who will be walking in the 2008 Great Strides Walk at Palm Bay Regional Park in Palm Bay, Florida on May 10, 2008 to benefit the CF Foundation. The auction will be posted in a few days, and I'll provide a link in this thread.

Thank you Jim for your wonderful generosity!

  7. My apologies for the incorrectness of my previous post.

A friend of mine, and fellow geocacher SmileyEarthGirl (Danielle), has a 3 and a half year old son, Sage, who has Cystic Firbrosis. Here's a video montage she put together about Sage:

I've already made a donation. But in an attempt to help her raise more money, I would like to sell my personal geocoins, Caching Native Florida (trackable on geocaching.com), for $25 each. The entire $25 will be donated to the CF Foundation. I will cover shipping and PayPal fees. Your coin will be shipped right away. After money is collected and the donation made, I will provide to all who have bought the coin, a link to the web page where you can see the total amount raised.

Thank you to all who can help out!

    Posted with permission of Groundspeak.

  8. I Am SO glad we were persistant :D I feel this WILL sell ! What kind of price are we looking at? :)

once again it depends on TRACKING which like doublled my design workload with this item! The setup involved for tracking will add probably $4 to the raw cost of materials at a rough guess and increase the production time and complexity it has to be hand engraved (and this ain't China.) The paintpen I tried in a hopeful moment scratched straight off with a fingernail :D

Now the good news- Groundspeak have approved this and a raft of other designs - even the superchunky glow in the dark radioactive fish..... really :D

HG stands for Hot Glass or Hogwild take your pick! and since we can do really super small runs of 4-16 coins the personal design trackable option is available.

The pyrex mentioned in the earlier post is not required I have seen the chuck test and i can sit on them in my pocket driving home with coins inside. I can still use it but the setup cost is over triple it is only required if it was to be a flameworked piece not kiln baked and then you are probably looking at a $30 piece B)

I have a gold paint pen designed to write on glass; then once it dries, you bake it in the kiln at 1200 degrees F. It doesn't rub/scratch off. It's like it becomes part of the glass.

I used it for the accents on this.

  9. I'm looking for a few of the Birds of a Feather coins for a special gift. They're for a little girl who's going to be undergoing chemo over the next few months, and she's a real Parrothead! I'd like to find 4 or 5 different birds, and am offering a trade of my personal coin, which you can see in my profile. All metal types are available (antique gold, antique silver, antique copper). Please contact me through my profile if you have any Birds of a Feather, or any other appropriate parrots for trade.

    Thanks!

    email sent!

    Thank you for the trade!

  10. We have a Birds of a Feather coin. I am playing nanny at my daughters right now, I'll be home on Monday and can get it off to you then....sending an email for your address.

Email received! Thanks for the trade!

  11. I noticed at Geoswag on their pre-sale page, they have some beautiful Hyacinth Macaw coins.

Ooooh, those are nice. I did a pair of Hyacinth Macaws in stained glass. They are gorgeous birds! I think I'll get her one of those, too. Thanks!
