  1. Not in our area at all, but in an area we drive through all the time. Just north of Grand Rapids, MI there are quite a few excellent hides by Photobug2. They are the best cache hiders that we have found so far. They do creative and well thought out multis that will challenge you, are always fair, and quite often will have you smiling by the time you are finished with the cache. Examples: PB-2 Pirate's Quest PB-2 Riverwalk PB-2 Deja Vu PB-2 Rest Area
  2. The most scenic part of US 2 is from the bridge to Escanaba, so I would suggest M28 then. M28 is a great drive along the Lake Superior shoreline from Munising to Marquette. Other than that stretch, M28 is not a very exciting drive. If you do decide to take M28, make sure to stop in Munising and visit some of the waterfalls, especially Olson Memorial Falls and the nearby Munising Falls (no cache there b/c it is in the national lakeshore). Between Marquette and Munising here is a virtual that has been described as one of the most interesting virtuals in the state Lakenenland Also, in Marquette, you should take a ride up to Presque Isle Park (KAWBAWGAM cache) Here is a bookmark list of caches that we keep for excellent UP caches Can't Miss UP Caches bookmark list
  3. In Gaylord, Aspen Park is not very far off the highway and has about 6 caches in it. The park itself is very nice, paved trails and they are all an easy walk from one another. Search for caches around GC82A5 for the Aspen Park cache. If you decide to do those caches, you should consider doing GCZ88V which is very near, there is large fenced in elk pen near that cache, if you are interested. Not in a "city", but I would consider stopping to do GC12RQP and GC12QHV. Both are very nice walks (aprox .3 miles) in very nice areas. You won't regret stopping for either of those caches.
  4. I have a bachelors and masters degree in GIS and do it full time for a living. If you have any questions please feel free to email me.
  5. I will be visiting South Haven this weekend and hope to grab a couple in your neck of the woods if I have time. I hear there is a giant film canister and giant ammo can that are waiting for me! Here they are... BIG BOY Just Another Film Canister We really enjoyed our visit to both earlier this spring.
  6. We began caching when we lived in Mt. Pleasant for school (Fire up Chips) and moved back to the UP as soon as we could find work up there. I now live in my home town of Bark River (10 miles west of Escanaba). We have found caches in just about every part of the state of Michigan (at least one in each county) and in about 1/3 of the counties in Wisconsin. Far and away our favorite place to cache is in the UP, Marquette County in particular (Team LaLonde territory) and we really enjoyed the Keweenaw Peninsula (north of Houghton). Our favorite place to cache when downstate would have to either be Mecosta County (Big Rapids-Morley area) and the Au Sable River valley (between Mio and Oscoda). A great place to cache just outside of Michigan is in Marinette County, Wisconsin. It is right across the border from Menominee County, but the landscape is drastically different, offering many great waterfalls and forest areas to visit. No skirt lifters either! That being said, TreePlanter has a lot of great caches in Clare County as well.
  7. We created a bookmark list of Upper Peninsula Can't Miss Caches with the help of several people. http://www.geocaching.com/bookmarks/view.a...21-7ea5d07d0bfe
  8. I have heard talk of an event being planned for Marquette the 2nd week of August. I believe that is one week before the fair though. The meet & greet in Esky was a lot of fun. That was our first ever event, it was really nice to meet some of the people who live in the area.
