  1. Welcome back! Being from Colorado, you'll understand if you don't get too many locals replying here (we're all outdoors), but there's quite a few of the regulars still active - Jim Reeb, Bhob, Mondou2, Jeeperz1&2, DaToad, DaWife, etc. We're a bit North of Denver, but not by much. It'll be interesting to see who else replies. While we're waiting, feel free to check out the Colorado Thread.
  2. Sorry to hear you'll be leaving the area :-( I found the 'Marbles & Chips' cache back in 2006 with my boys. They're a bit older now, but it was nice to revisit the pics from our log: I work in Ft. Collins now, so adopting this for you would be an option for us. - Chris
  3. Completely skimmed right past that. Thanks for pointing it out! I'm finishing up the page today.
  4. Can one of the Lacky's confirm this date? I'd love to get the wheels rolling.....
  5. Another weekend, another trip in the hills of Colorado. This time we went up to Brainard Lake. DNF'd the cache(2nd time), but it was the view we went for.
  6. Any chance the date is set yet? The land manager is working towards allocating resources and would like to set a firm 'date' to move towards.
  7. Another weekend, another snowshoe trip. Went into RMNP and visited one of the many (frozen) waterfalls.
  8. I would recommend the Hanging Lake as a trip to take. It may be a bit tough if there is heavy snow (it's fairly steep in spots), but it's wonderful once you make it to the top. I'm hoping someone with more information of the area responds to other options near Dillon. I looked through my finds and I don't have many in that area (yet).
  9. Happy New Year! We went snowshoeing today (trying to start the year off right) and had a blast on the trails!
  10. I'm also curious if there's going to be a 'sponsor' this year. Last year, Magellan came through and sponsored the CITO, and it really seemed to have helped with keeping the attendance high. I would love to repeat it this year, too. We've got a big project planned. You can even see this crap from space!
  11. Welcome to the hobby/obsession. we've been caching for a few years now and are still having a ball. I live a bit North of you, but would be willing to lend a hand. Feel free to send me an email and we'll go from there. As a side note, I was able to enjoy another day in the hills today:
  12. I'm meeting with a few Land Management agencies soon who are looking forward to using our volunteers to help keep their properties clean. They are looking for a springtime cleanup, and I'd love to plan the dates around the 2012 CITO date, which will (hopefully) draw more people out. Any idea what the date will be (or at least when the date will be announced by). Thanks!
  13. Dang...dropped off the first page again....oh well > bumping back. Here's one from yesterday - Sunset at the Border
  14. Had a great day in Colorado during the CITO event! More good news with Boulder County!
  15. I have taught geocaching to a number of different groups - BLM, Boy Scouts, Open Space Rangers, and a few other non-profit organizations in the past. As already stated, customizing the content to the audience is key. When kids are involved, focus on the activity of geocaching - i.e. have a GPS pre-loaded with a few "example" hides (placed specifically for your presentation), and have the contents be appropriate for the lesson. When families are involved, focus on both the activity of geocaching and the benefits of it. Adding to the above, have discussion points on how geocaching keeps families active, interested and away from the TV. When official organizations (BLM, parks department, etc) are involved, focus on the benefits that geocaching brings - promotes outdoor activity, unique way to showcase their properties, etc. When official non-profit organizations (YMCA, Boy Scouts, etc), focus on the the activity (kids), benefits (parents), and skills taught (troop leaders). Navigation, LNT, compass, math, etc.
  16. After Hiking a few weeks ago, Mountain Biking last weekend, I decided it was time to double the wheels again, so zoltig and I went out yesterday and enjoyed an awesome day in the hills.
  17. Spent another day in those beautiful hills we have here. Even found a cache....
  18. The leaves haven't started changing quite yet, but the air was a bit brisk this weekend. Great time to be in the hills. ((((bump))))
  19. I have the PN-40, PN-60W, 60CS, 60CSx, and have tinkered with many others. Between the Dakota and the PN-40 I'd lean (personally) towards the 40. I'm not a fan of touch screen, and I didn't like the (lack of) sensitivity on the screen when a screen protector was on it. As rough as we are (can be) on GPSr, I really want to have the screen protected. Additionally, the screen brightness in sunlight was pretty rough too. The PN-40 eats batteries faster than cookie monster can devour a fresh batch. It's one of the things I don't like about it, but with the RAM mount for mobile transportation your 'disconnected' time is minimal (depending on the cache you're looking for). I've been a Garmin user for a long time, so learning the Delorme software was a bit interesting, but I'm getting used to it.
  20. The views in this state never cease to amaze me: Now if only all the roads were FOCUS friendly (yes, I went on this road):
  21. Way to go guys! Is that another cache hidden in that rock? That's the summit register. And by completing the 7 mile, 2400 ft elevation gain hike today, they've proved that they're able to go on the hike for the upcoming 4x4 event too!
  22. Wow, almost lost this thread. Can't believe it's been over a month since the last post! Oh well, bumping it and posting pictures from my hike today. Even at an early age, they know how to appreciate a view: The boys with the cache (exhausted after the 3.5 miles hike) The three of us at the summit (11,428)
  23. Not too many Colorado cachers frequent the forums - they're too busy being outside. You may consider posting in the local groups' forums. There's isn't too much activity there either, but it's more than here. I'm a bit too far North to offer help.
