  1. Please message me if you have one or both issues. Thx. Gary (bedstefader skjule)
  2. I have a bookmark list I've been making, of Arizona night caches, as I learn about them. Currently a list of 36, 7 of which I've found, and 9 of which are in Phx metro area. Some have been archived/disabled; seems night caches require much more maintenance. 3. There is a TB hotel at the Grand Canyon not far from the parking lot just before you enter the park. From there to 4 Corners is barren, for the most part, because you are on tribal land. Cortez has some and naturally Durango does too. There are a few between Durango and Pagosa Springs, and several in Pagosa are within walking distance of each other. Team_WingStar I would recommend a stop between Flagstaff and GCNP that will get you three caches at one location; it's a lava tube that you hike through, at this location you will get Earth, Virtual, & Traditional. Plus it's a great experience that you will never forget. Lava River Cache http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?guid=5f64af91-311b-4ae9-a9bd-04d78805b94b A Journey To The Center of The Earth http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?guid=7d958cef-97e1-4997-b106-dcd7edc566cb Lava Tube http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?guid=9d91acc0-68f3-49d0-a1cf-66596e501b3d After GCNP while heading up to BryceCNP I would recommend Horseshoe Bend Overlook http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?guid=04ebdcf9-84fe-44e8-826a-477f9a42ca0b outside of Page. Then when at Bryce do Avalanche of Wall Street BCNP http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?guid=cdc15a41-4f2c-4de8-9517-8684b381ce1b If you have the time ZionNP is between GCNP & BCNP and it is beautiful. I know you'll have a great trip; and yes Havasupai is awesome but you don't have the time to do it justice, especially considering the permit required - sounds like a return trip is in order. If you come back to AZ, stop in the Prescott area to do a few of "The Raven" caches; they will all bring a smile to your face. Check them out, he is awesome. 4. One favorite pt for every 10 finds is more than generous. I went back and looked at my favorite list & pt ratio. Seems that I dole them out at just less than a 2% of cache finds - much less than 10%. However, now that the Favorites have been out for awhile, I find that when I'm going to an area I do look at the favorited caches and tend to seek them out, which results in adding my favorite pt as well - so, my pts are being used more frequently. When I first began caching in '05, I would go after any cache out there and continued that practice for quite some time; as of the last couple yrs my cache finds are mostly around my hikes so the find count has dropped. My favorite pts: 325 to give, dispensed 61, leaving 264 banked. When looking at the few caches that I've hidden I found that I need to step up my quality of hides. But one cache that my son & I placed - "Long Tom" (a backcountry hide), has 8 total finds in the three yrs it's been out, while being favorited by 5 of the 8 finders; as it turns out the other 3 were non/PM so it's actually a 100% favorited cache as Groundspeak calcutales. I like the Favorite aspect that was added and will probably tend to seek those caches with higher pt counts. Gary bedstefader skjule
  5. If/when you go from Sedona to Flagstaff to Williams to Grand C NP, between Flag & Willams if you make a deviation N of I-40 at Bellemont, you can experience a 3/4 mile hike in a lava tube and get a virtual, traditional, & earthcache at this location. A great set of caches; but bring a light jacket & flashlight, for it is 32° - 42° inside & dark. Check them out to see it you might want this interesting deviation. There are undeveloped camping and picnicing spots in the Kaibab Nat forest. Visitors are welcome to use any of them, but may not camp within 1/4 mi from water unless in developed camp sites. If you require improvements, there are four developed campgrounds as well: Dogtown lake, White Horse lake, Kaibab lake, & Cataract lake(all are first-come first-served $16-$20/night). Cataract lake is the easiest accessible and closest to your lava tube deviation off I-40; it's just west of Williams, but also might be the first to fill up - no reservations in any of these campgrounds. 7. It's A Jeep Thing! Cache series in NW Arizona; open the cache page, then open the map, zoom out to see the Geo Art. Rubicon http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?guid=3996321c-910f-4e33-b277-f829accb3a87 Gary bedstefader skjule
  8. I have been bookmarking a few as I find out about them; only bookmarked one cache from each series so you'll have to zoom out to see the Geo Art. Certainly not a complete list, just those I've noticed. Geo Art Bookmark site: http://www.geocaching.com/bookmarks/view.aspx?guid=3d1646e8-d7ca-4939-baa0-04931bcf06f4 Gary bedstefader skjule
  9. I believe you might get a good response by posting same to: http://www.calgarycachers.net/azcachers/index.php The AZcachers forum - many of it's members are from Mesa and Apache Jct area, and are good, helpful cachers. Good luck - enjoy your time. Gary bedstefader skjule
  10. The first cache placed in Arizona would be on my short list if I were to visit AJ - Geocache GC57. A good night cache in AJ - Glintzs & Road Apples GCQM1P. A fun cache with unique log - Retired Mail Carrier GC144QT. I would suggest you might place this same question to the AZCachers Forum; quite a few members in that forum have done extensive caching in AJ & could be much more helpful than I. 11. I would have to recommend "A Journey To The Center Of The Earth"; a virtual cache north of Bellemont, Az off of I-40. This would be between GCNP and Flagstaff, if you go GCNP to Williams to Flag. There is this virtual, an earthcache, & a traditional all at this stop. It is a lava tube that you climb into, then hike back 3/4 of a mile to the end; flashlight, camera, jacket, and shoes w/ good traction are required. Very cool, unique experience. http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...06-dcd7edc566cb
  12. Haven't been able to get on the AZ Cachers forum both last night and this morning; anyone else having the same difficulty? Connection diagnostics was of no help to me. Got to get my local forum fix.
  13. Spooky Canyon by noshdoo tsoh GCJZG5 Geocaching.com A 4/4 slot canyon adventure that's still my favorite after a few yrs now. The cache has 24 finders in 4 ½ yrs with 104 pictures on the cache. On the hike you start high & dry, then as you enter the narrow parts of the slot you straddle the walls to remain dry & out of the water below, but before too long it becomes obvious you're going to get wet. Saw my first coatimundi in the wild on this trip; albino frogs, small native fish, rattlesnakes, & no people. Definitely a must do cache when in the area.
  14. 200 caches within 5.3 miles from home coordinates in Tempe, AZ. I own only one of those caches. Have currently found all but 6 of them; 1 requires admission to the zoo, 2 are calculus & trigonometry mystery caches, another one I've logged two DNF's on, and the last 2 caches I just haven't stopped by yet.
  15. Steve, I'm always looking for an excuse to go out caching; I'm in Tempe as well. Evening/nights. I have rotating days off so that is another possibility. How could you go to the "Lava Tube" and not do "Journey to the center of the Earth"? Girls I'll bet. I just went there last month. Gary (bedstefader skjule)
  16. az2bys1grl, Glintzes & Road Apples (GCQM1P) by DoubleBogie6, is near Apache Jct. not far from Chandler. It has been bookmarked as favorites, has good log comments; I have yet to hunt it personally, but it is on my short list. http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...7b-20a686d000d5
  17. We have a local cacher here in Phx, mrmomtwins; that generously places $15 Starbucks gift cards as FTF rewards. I have claimed 3 of them all within a 2 1/2 wk period. The caches varied quite abit: 1.5/2, 2.5/3.5, & 4/3.5; the 4/3.5 my favorite of the three was a very creative multi called "Hansel and Gretel" http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...d4-6ca2b0e5b777
  18. My username (bedstefader skjule) is danish for grandfather cache/hide. My rationale: I am half dane, with the other half a heinz 57. I also enjoy being a grandfather of 2 beautiful girls and early next yr. my daughter will give birth to twin boys. I have gotten e-mails from Denmark cachers, but I can't read them, so I get my uncle to interpret for me (kind of a hassle); so choose your name wisely. Also on the many micros that abound, some cache owners insist that you only use your initials - you can see the problem there.
  19. INRE: your post 10-23-06 about boundaries - (Lincoln, Shea, Tatum, Hwy 51) and cache - GCJB82; that is mostly Phoenix Mountain Preserve. My son and I found 5 caches there today, I had previously hiked the Piestewa Summit for a FTF on top. It is a good area, but I must agree with Team Evil Fish, Phoenix S. Mt. Park has alot to offer; at the present time I have logged all caches in S Mt Park - currently 61. There are also a great number of caches outside the park, from stop & hop caches to 4 star terrain. You really can't go wrong, two days of caching, you could actually fry both the Park & the Preserve. Cache On!
