  13. Sounds like "Letterboxing"; not really geocaching, but I have run into them by chance while seeking a nearby cache. They use paces from known landmarks, etc.
  14. Apparently the system does not think "micro" is a "valid cache size." A lot of cachers have expressed the same opinion. Of course, after I posted here, I went back and tried it one more time. You guessed it - sailed right through. Thx. And yes micro isn't my cache of choice; but some love to find them.
  15. I am trying to publish 6 caches along a bike trail; I have worked my way through 5 of them. On the sixth one I keep getting an error when at the container and rating stage. I mark it as micro, then hit continue, and the marker moves to non selected and the message says: Please correct the following issue: Please provide a valid cache size. I have tried it maybe 20 times; even shut it down and started all the way at the beginning. Still get the same issue. Any ideas. When working on the first cache the same problem occurred but after maybe 5 attempts it finally accepted it. Not this time. Caches 2, 3, 4, & 5 sailed right through on first attempts.
  16. Please message me if you have one or both issues. Thx. Gary (bedstefader skjule)
  17. I have a bookmark list I've been making, of Arizona night caches, as I learn about them. Currently a list of 36, 7 of which I've found, and 9 of which are in Phx metro area. Some have been archived/disabled; seems night caches require much more maintenance. 18. There is a TB hotel at the Grand Canyon not far from the parking lot just before you enter the park. From there to 4 Corners is barren, for the most part, because you are on tribal land. Cortez has some and naturally Durango does too. There are a few between Durango and Pagosa Springs, and several in Pagosa are within walking distance of each other. Team_WingStar I would recommend a stop between Flagstaff and GCNP that will get you three caches at one location; it's a lava tube that you hike through, at this location you will get Earth, Virtual, & Traditional. Plus it's a great experience that you will never forget. Then when at Bryce do Avalanche of Wall Street BCNP http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?guid=cdc15a41-4f2c-4de8-9517-8684b381ce1b If you have the time ZionNP is between GCNP & BCNP and it is beautiful. I know you'll have a great trip; and yes Havasupai is awesome but you don't have the time to do it justice, especially considering the permit required - sounds like a return trip is in order. If you come back to AZ, stop in the Prescott area to do a few of "The Raven" caches; they will all bring a smile to your face. Check them out, he is awesome. 19. One favorite pt for every 10 finds is more than generous. I went back and looked at my favorite list & pt ratio. Seems that I dole them out at just less than a 2% of cache finds - much less than 10%. However, now that the Favorites have been out for awhile, I find that when I'm going to an area I do look at the favorited caches and tend to seek them out, which results in adding my favorite pt as well - so, my pts are being used more frequently. When I first began caching in '05, I would go after any cache out there and continued that practice for quite some time; as of the last couple yrs my cache finds are mostly around my hikes so the find count has dropped. My favorite pts: 325 to give, dispensed 61, leaving 264 banked. When looking at the few caches that I've hidden I found that I need to step up my quality of hides. But one cache that my son & I placed - "Long Tom" (a backcountry hide), has 8 total finds in the three yrs it's been out, while being favorited by 5 of the 8 finders; as it turns out the other 3 were non/PM so it's actually a 100% favorited cache as Groundspeak calcutales. I like the Favorite aspect that was added and will probably tend to seek those caches with higher pt counts. Gary bedstefader skjule
  20. If/when you go from Sedona to Flagstaff to Williams to Grand C NP, between Flag & Willams if you make a deviation N of I-40 at Bellemont, you can experience a 3/4 mile hike in a lava tube and get a virtual, traditional, & earthcache at this location. A great set of caches; but bring a light jacket & flashlight, for it is 32° - 42° inside & dark. Check them out to see it you might want this interesting deviation. There are undeveloped camping and picnicing spots in the Kaibab Nat forest. Visitors are welcome to use any of them, but may not camp within 1/4 mi from water unless in developed camp sites. If you require improvements, there are four developed campgrounds as well: Dogtown lake, White Horse lake, Kaibab lake, & Cataract lake(all are first-come first-served $16-$20/night). Cataract lake is the easiest accessible and closest to your lava tube deviation off I-40; it's just west of Williams, but also might be the first to fill up - no reservations in any of these campgrounds. 22. It's A Jeep Thing! Cache series in NW Arizona; open the cache page, then open the map, zoom out to see the Geo Art. Rubicon http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?guid=3996321c-910f-4e33-b277-f829accb3a87 Gary bedstefader skjule
  23. I have been bookmarking a few as I find out about them; only bookmarked one cache from each series so you'll have to zoom out to see the Geo Art. Certainly not a complete list, just those I've noticed. Geo Art Bookmark site: http://www.geocaching.com/bookmarks/view.aspx?guid=3d1646e8-d7ca-4939-baa0-04931bcf06f4 Gary bedstefader skjule
